Cell (2016)
What a production mess
First I have to say that the voice audio level was at whisper level and I had to turn up the sound and got the whole family awake because the background noise was extreme. So I turned on subtitles because I couldn't hear it and the Dutch ones on Prime are out of sync which completely ruined it. Still watched until the end sometimes annoyed by a camera that was too much shaking but I endured. The story itself went all over the place but we know that of the King. I was really trying to enjoy it and see the deeper meaning of it all, but no. Samuel L Jackson was also completely wasted here with random lines without much meaning. So character development was pretty pretty bad. I didn't care about any of them in the end.
Invasion: A Voice from the Other Side (2023)
Frustrating
Giving it a 6 just because the woman keeps running around with something that kills the aliens and won't hand it over to have a weapon for humans. Nobody is that stupid or selfish. Also we have these aliens which are unstoppable but they stay at one point and don't overrun every human settlement? Or free the stranded ship?
I am no sure yet of the aliens intentions but it sure look like they wanted to terraform so what is holding them back so much they are clearly more advanced or capable than what is dragged out. The humans have way too much time on their hand now for study and counter reactions.
65 (2023)
Science who needs it
So as though there was not that much story the emotional part of loosing a child was fairly done.
But, that space faring aliens 65 mil years ago just looked and acted like humans? Wtf. And I got this alien covenant vibe when he took of his helmet and inhaled alien microbes (from his point of view) and just said: the air is breathable. Nice also that aliens like the same atmosphere, what a coincidence.
I know with movies you need to let go a little, but this made me think the writers still had to finish their primary school and that the rest of the movie is not very thought of as well.
Seems to me someone got a hold on the jurassic park cgi and fantasized a movie around it.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
I just really enjoyed it
I have never read the books and also didn't want to as the movie is too slow and I am afraid the books are even slower. I am also not a fan of Tolkiens world design but that was never a too big issue.
But the movies were great, and I went into this series just a week ago and binged them every night, and enjoyed it thoroughly (yes there were slower parts but I am so used to that now).
I did read the bad reviews and can imagine that if you have read the books, you are disappointed and offended. But for people who go in with a blank canvas this is a really nice watch with stunning graphics and scenery.
Star Trek: Picard: The Last Generation (2023)
Didn't want to watch this
But I did. The last episode, the last TNG. Given to us as fanservice and I thank the creators for this.
I went through the reviews and I agree with the bad and the good ones, and I respect everyone's way how they see this. I am happy to see so many have the same growing up memories as I have with this show. It made me look up at the stars, knowing there is so much more out there. Made me interested in technology, physics, philosophy (thanks to Data's struggles, or how we might see alien life, etc). I liked Wesley as I connected with him due to my age maybe, never understood why he got into those meme's.
And Q, I knew he would be "back" as indeed, we think lineair. After all, he travels time as we travel space. This Q is before his end, and when he died, he might have come from the end of time itself, or the big crush of the universe (but then again, what does that mean if you can travel in time).
One thing that I found a bit odd but it is probably me, is that Picard as a robot was assimilated when he put the cable to his head. I remember the (awesome movie) time when they gave Data real skin to make him doubt for a few microseconds to join them. But maybe they wanted him in on his free will, what is a bit un-Borglike but o well, there are always much more of these tiny errors and we have to allow some leeway.
I give this a 10, just as a thanks and because after season one and two thought it might give TNG a bad aftertaste. Yes most reviewers have valid points, I hope future episodes of star trek will take this in account, but overall this last season was a fine job. Yes it did have mostly Borg, Q, Voyager and DS9, but was that not what those moments in our lives were about?
Picard and us, in all those moments (Temba, his arms wide ;))
LLAP.
Star Trek: Picard: Imposters (2023)
It is better but...
It still feels weird that a whole season has basically one storyline. If you don't like the storyline you have to wrestle through it.
Also, the Worf sequences are a bit too stretched out to me, as I don't like too much fighting and shooting.
Next to that, everything happens in Federation space again. The beauty of Voyager or TNG is that the directors could go wild with all those idea's out there. The "going into the unknown" feeling is just what I miss.
And yes, we know Jack has some strange "connect us" changeling infection. He is destined to put them all in the big soup or something. But again, bit too stretched out.
But overall I liked it again much better just as last episode then all the other Picard episodes.
Star Trek: Picard: No Win Scenario (2023)
Finally
I got the Star Trek feeling again.
Not too much fighting, still interesting. Discovering new species, working together to get out of a nasty situation, Picard showing more power in his acting as the man he was.
Yes of course, the alien squids didn't make much sense in their appearance (please involve scientists guys when you maken a sci-fi show) and avoiding the asteroids went too easy as well as catching the shape shifter (who as I see it would actually help with getting out of there instead of more sabotage). The way the shape shifter communicated reminded me also too much of Star Wars but o well, overall I give a 9 to show the makers of the show we like this, and not the other garbage they are trying to create. Not perfect, but on the right track.
And we got to see the holodeck again. Been sooooo long.
To the other guy reviewing here who complained they kept the bar running:
1) it was not a bar it was the holodeck which Picard ordered to recreate the bar (I expected a Guinan recreation to serve at the bar but probably was too costly for the episode)
2) It is clearly said it ran on a separate power source for situations like this (the logic of that is another discussion)
So please pay attention before you criticise.
Star Trek: Picard: Seventeen Seconds (2023)
It has some elements
It has some elements of the way Star Trek was, but the new age "lets put 2 episodes in a whole season, add over the top focus on emotions, shaky cam" is something I just don't like.
Worf is cool, but his lines feel a bit forced. Also the "We are warriors, lets team up!" and then "cool" scene makes it feel a bit childish to me.
There was on moment I did see the old Picard, a scene that did him justice. It is when he reacted on the fact he wasn't told about his kid. Strong, powerful expressions and voice. I hope they do that more, that is how you honor the Picard we all came to love.
As for the constantly smoking villain and her storm trooper crew: Picard face palm.
The last scene where Picard is dismissed, I hope he was replaced by the shape shifter who want him to fall for the Portal trap. And how Riker reacted, blaming a number 1 just for advice? Out of character. A captain has first responsibilty.
I wonder what entity lies in the clouds. The "organic by nature" had to be repeated a few times without anyone saying out loud what we all think (the crew of this new Star Trek seems not as sharp as we were used to).
By the way, this portal tech. Does it mean the end of transporters? No more breaking down into a particle wave but just portal step down to a planet?
Black Summer (2019)
Too dumb
Walk on the open road, only one zombie at a time, don't close doors behind you, don't weaponize yourself, locked doors with glass are no option so you walk on, you shout middle of the road. Etc etc. I want this character gone, and please take the rest of the show what utter garbage.
And watching him climbs of a school for 10 minutes. Sure waste my time. I just want to warn people do not start watching this show and do something else with your time. Even breaking bad had a quicker pace. But there you start liking a character but here you just want them all to die to prevent the gene pool for such dumb character. Hey, I got to my minimal character count. What a waste.
Monster (2022)
Revulsion
This serie makes me watch away where a horror would make me bored. I am so disgusted by what I am watching knowing it was real (of course with some alterations as racism is a big subject as well) that it's intriguing and that makes me feel filthy. I'd say good job, but I am sorry for all his victims and their families.
And now I notice imdb now requires a lot of characters but what more can I say? Imagine that you have to play this role. Good job from the main actor, I wonder if people in real life look at him differently now. Imagine meeting him a bar now, I would certainly turn 180 and walk away...
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Childish
The special effects are great as usual, but I do get a little bored with the inception like warping it shows constantly.
Next to that, there is too much backstory hidden in this movie for a casual movie watcher.
The worst though is how the illuminati are pictured. As some cartoonish small dumb people who didn't have a clue what Wanda was capabel of. In the comics this childish scene would never have happened, as they would be formidable, respectable and prepared.
This had a x-men vibe to it which was a problem in the x-men movies as well. Make them more grown up, raw, and you will have a hit movie (just look at the last Venom for instance, or the new mcu series. Yuck).
Outer Range (2022)
Must... watch...till..zzzz
I am normally committed to watch all episodes, but this show is taxing. I keep falling asleep as it just too slow and not enough sci-fi.
The acting is great, the camera work and visuals as well, so it's the writing that is just too boring, weird and slow.
Love, Death & Robots: The Very Pulse of the Machine (2022)
Nice
I just gave a review that said all other were bad this season (at Swarm) but I forgot this one.
The idea that there is intelligence in structures around us that we don't see yet is very nice. Alien machinery hidden in plain sight with a scale that dwarfs us. Why? Who? And why stay hidden. The radio message at the end tells us it was not drugs. But the drugs part could have been let out, the idea was good enough without that artistic touch (lets introduce drugs so we can draw space rainbows!)
Love, Death & Robots: Swarm (2022)
Perfect
It's an interesting thought that to survive, you can kick on or off an intelligent system with consciousness. The idea is also used by Alastair Reynolds in his inhibitor books. The "using the same organisms" tactic was the same as the movie Oblivion.
This was for me the only episode that had the quality needed for this series, the rest was a let down this season.
Star Trek: Picard: Farewell (2022)
Hire a scientist
... and ask some knowledgable fans and critics.
This all felt like logic, events and physics got bent in many ways to accommodate all the tiny subplots.
Star Trek was always about answering answers in a logical scientific way, and you left us with many.
How and why does Q die?
How can there be 2 Borgs?
Why does Guinan remember this after all, but the Guinan in the past didn't remember the other time Picard visited?
How can time be exactly the same when you rampaged through history?
Why does Wesley recruit someone who didn't show and travellers skills yet?
What extreme future tech does Soong have? How?
Why is Tallis a 100% clone of the one in his current time?
Why does light go faster then light with these anomalies as anyone can see it immediately?
Etc etc.
Why did no one of the crew ask these answers before filming? Is it so hard, a sanity check instead of just thinking about your salary check?
There is a third season right? I hope by Q you did read the reviews, el Capitans.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
This was not an end
Period. And Wendy should have died, not Ruth. Ruth and Marty and the kids should have survived.
I couldn't stand Wendy's actor face anymore, what a cringefest.
And again this was no ending, not in any artistic thought of way. So I wonder what happened. Sudden budget cut? Real cartel got annoyed?
Star Trek: Picard: Hide and Seek (2022)
Ugh
What did I just watch? If you want to show the history of Picard do it in one episode and be done with it. To mix it with a weird "Borg" attack which reminds me of Star Wars, being led by an evil Jedi Soong who escapes when all Storm Troopers are defeated (by beaming them just next to Picard in the walls). They were also easy to see and avoid as they betray their positions with their lasers. But Borg had lasers so they should have as well. And spread them evenly around in the forest also seemed logical, maybe for the sfx department which wanted to create a forest rave with lasers. At least they are off picking out desperate aliens which will only join as they will have nothing to loose. Seems much better then just taking anyone. All the religious people turning addicts probably feel much better now. I will stop now, as every minute of what I just watched could have a rant. One episode to go to end our suffering, jay.
Moon Knight: Asylum (2022)
Good but boring
It was a good episode, but entertaining? It felt like a needed filler to explain the backstory and you just had to sit through it. It could have been done in one shot, saying Steven was the made up personality to deal with his mother and other things.
When I read the reviews and the extreme worshipping of Isaac I can't rub of the feeling that there is some review bombing going on (the reviews are just way over the top).
Star Trek: Picard: Mercy (2022)
Not enjoying this
Too many small stories, so all not getting enough time, still on earth, Rafi and Seven together too hard to watch, Guinan not being a true Guinan in character, not much main story progressing.
Man I am bored. Just get this over with.
Moon Knight: The Tomb (2022)
Better
Nice episode, only the fight scene on the sandy hills was stupid.
I wonder which god saved him ;) Prob the one from the girl he did meet.
Had an Indiana Jones feel to it.
The Batman (2022)
Fake reviews
Sorted on review date and the 2 10's I first saw: "user" Atatqts posting a 10 and another atat a 10 after that, both with bot generated texts.
Don't trust the reviews here anymore, imdb is not protecting its scores.
The movie was way to slow and boring and way too long.
Star Trek: Picard: Monsters (2022)
Boredom trek
I really enjoy dungeon scenes with monsters which is all fictional but have a clue which will fix the plot. Like Picards mother was half Q maybe?, or his father an actor on BSG when he was younger. You never know! How wondrous, like cluedo.
And much more happens! Like, I mean like, well. The new almost Borg Queen breaks a window for hormones. And they disrupt the timeline even more by revealing who they are and giving tours on their spaceship.
Star Trek people, as much Star Trek as my review is a review.
My god el Capitain, you are failing the viewers trial.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: What We're Fighting For (2020)
Thank you
I was grounded for a while so I picked up this series where I left it at season 2. Every night I watched at least 2 episodes so I grew a bit attached to the crew. Sometimes there was budget or a forced storyline visible due to real life (like Fitz's absence last season) but that's just details. I had a feeling I knew you guys so you (that is: all of the crew) did something right.
Good luck with your further careers, hope to see more of you, miss you!
Star Trek: Picard: Two of One (2022)
Earth trek filler season
This whole season will be on earth with maybe a short trip into space with ancestor Picard. And these episodes more and more look like some James Bond / mission impossible, even the music agrees.
It felt like nothing happened, and was over before I knew it. Also for reviewers who thought the Q meeting with Soong was in a future time: No, we will have super advanced uv-shield drones in 2 years time, back to the future eat your heart out.
Btw, maybe Laris is the same. Maybe the future Laris is there to look after Picard as well. Maybe it's a Guinan thing, and she remembers when Picard came visit when she was assigned to an ancestor of him. They are advanced, immortality and changing into a Romulan wouldn't be too difficult. That would at least a solution instead of just re-using actors.
Honestly, I like mysteries or complex timeline shows, but here I am hoping for Star Trek and discovering the unknown in space, not our 2024 planet...
Moon Knight (2022)
Boring
There is a lack of depth in this series. The moon god acts like a little child and instead of terrifying it becomes laughable.
This needed a Zack Snyder touch, now it feels like a children series. And the multiple personalities is something coming from the cartoon I hope, because it's annoying.
