Madea's Family Reunion (2006)
All due respect, the title is wrong
I don't know why this title was changed, but it's not a funeral, it's a reunion, and that's how it's listed on cable screening.
8 Heads in a Duffel Bag (1997)
It's over the top by far but fun
It's over 20 years now since the film came out, made me laugh out loud then, and it did today. It's not pretentious, it's not drama, it's slapstick comedy, right out of the Keystone Cops, Laurel and Hardy era. You've got to love comedy to get it, it's silly, nonsensical, but it's fun. Don't expect anything because you can't. If the Coen Brothers had done this, or Judd Apatow, people would be hysterical, and it's that caliber, and maybe even an idea for them to do a remake. Movies to compare are "Around the World in 80 Days," "The Great Race," "Rat Race," "Noises Off," and maybe even "Fargo." It's a farce, plain and simple, and it can and will make you laugh it you suspend disbelief and just take the ride.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
The worst of the series.
I've been an avid fan of the Jurassic Park/World series, I LOVE watching them over and over again., and have for years - I'll never grow tired of them. But this one, I don't ever want to watch again. This entry to the series is painfully dreadful. For me, the dinosaurs dying on the island was so heartwrenching to be unbearable, and putting the creatures so much at risk - even though they were in other films, but this was just devastating. This story though lacked any sensibility or cohesion. All the side stories contributed so little, it just left so little to want to see, not even wanting to see the end. It was a sorry addition.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
Painfully dreadful
Good grief. Donna died. And she was the life of the original, the center stone of the mother-daughter relationship, the reason to love the first movie - that is, if you loved it. Everything after that in the sequel was painful to watch. This was a story about them, and frankly I didn't care about them. Donna was the lifeblood. And frankly I didn't buy the younger Donna, it didn't seem the person she was, too frivolous. There was a major disconnect, the music didn't have the charm of the first. I expected uplifting, as the music IS, not the dreadful dealing with loss. The story was contrary to everything the first movie ended with. I just utterly hated it.
Burlesque (2010)
And this is the Burlesque I expected.
I loved this movie, watched it more than a few times. It's great music, GREAT singing, two remarkable divas, unless you count Stanley Tucci who's a doll in this role, so that makes three. This is the behind-the-scenes movie I had once expected with Moulin Rouge. I love live theater, and this gave it in handfuls. Sure, it could have been more, and Alan Cumming should have had more though his moments on screen were priceless.
It's burlesque, it's naughty, it's back-biting and it's where music and dreams collide.Just the fab musical numbers won me over, Christina Aquilera's singing was fabulous and Cher's solo worth admission.
The love story was a little too drawn out and the film sagged in the middle from, but the rest, was fun, lively and did I say it before, Great Music.
Les témoins (2014)
Season 2 incomprehensible
While season 1 was brilliant, and stellar performances from the compelling Marie Dompnier, season 2 literally makes no sense. While one totally may get the personal connection to the mystery this seasoned detective would have, none of her actions made any real sense for an experienced professional. She goes rogue, in a big an dangerous way - which became quite unsatisfying.
But the biggest letdown was the explanation for how and why these crimes happened - the story and ending makes very little sense and leaves me as a viewer with more questions than a show should have. Very very disappointed in the ending and lack of resolution. This was an ending extraordinarily unsatisfying, considering how edgily the show led us on this chase, with such dangers to the characters - it did keep you on edge, though the characters actions seemed so irresponsible, and ended with a big flat tire, and asking myself - what was that all about, I just don't understand why.
