FC Barcelona: A New Era (2022)
So, so annoying!
The English voice overs make you want to do a poo. They are definitely not voice-over actors, someone has turned up to a 21st birthday party at 3am and recruited the biggest idiots there. It's almost as though the voice-over actors are taking the mick. The worst one was the one translating for Pedri and his family that were on the Skype call. I wish it was just subtitled instead, then it would have been a really good documentary. I still prefer the Arsenal and Tottenham series as it seemed much more intrusive and raw. I did wonder after a while, who on earth would want to be a president of a football club, it seems so stressful!
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Partition
A very emotive take on the partition. Great choice of Pakistani music and the family were shown in a positive light. No cheap stereotypes. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Das schaurige Haus (2020)
Scooby Doo
This was a film aimed at children but enjoyed by adults nonetheless. It was entertaining and I didn't get bored at all watching it. The kids acted well and I found Fritz very amusing! Watch it if you're in a light-hearted mood.
Calibre (2018)
Refreshing watch
It pleases me to see quality suspense films that haven't come out of Hollywood. The acting was high class and as I was watching I could sense myself in their shoes. Very believe characters.
His House (2020)
Something different
I really like the creativity in the story telling in this film. They've taken a serious subject and put it into a totally unrelated genre. It somehow worked. This film had a bit of everything, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but the balance was just right. An enjoyable watch.
Hür Adam: Bediüzzaman Said Nursi (2011)
Heart warming
I thoroughly enjoyed learning about this man and the historical events of that time. I watched it over a few sittings as I had to follow the English subtitles. I thought it was really well scripted and acted - the characters seemed very real. A very motivational film and I feel glad that I watched it.
Bandit Queen (1994)
Not the true story
The director did not meet Phoolan! Taken from Arundhati Roy's article on The Rape Trick: "Shekhar Kapur wasn't curious. He has openly admitted that he didn't feel that he needed to meet Phoolan. His producer Bobby Bedi supports this decision "Shekhar would have met her if he had felt a need to do so." (Sunday Observer August 20th 1994)."
