The Gracefield Incident (2017)
Well-crafted Sci-Fi Horror that focuses on one thing and does it well
I really enjoyed watching this film. While it does start off as a typical sci-fi "found footage", (and I placed that in quotations because it's not really footage that was found, as we are seeing what's happening through the cameras in real-time), the movie places its effort towards building up the climax. the finale was also very well done and leaves you feeling satisfied. The horror and the mystery behind the horror is well polished and that constant irking feeling you get as the tension builds up is washed away once you get into the ending, as it delivers what you feel you deserved to see.
Great film, would love to see similarly developed films in the future.
The Dark Tapes (2016)
Stunning, creative, Horror-Sci-fi Anthology
I was anticipating the release of this movie from the beginning of 2017. When it came out, I had high hopes for it. I wasn't disappointed. The Dark Tapes has a clever way of connecting each of the four stories together and each one shines a unique light on a specific genre within the horror universe. If you liked southbound and V/H/S, you will love The Dark Tapes.
Morgan (2016)
That...was an insanely good watch
Being a horror & Sci-Fi movie buff who's watched well over 400 titles in the past years (and I'm 24 - i.e. I watch a lot of movies per month), I can say that without a doubt "Morgan" played out brilliantly. Go in with absolutely no expectations, and you'll come out hyped. I don't want to spoil anything, so you'll just have to watch it all yourself, and it will be worth it.
