How High (2001)
get baked with the friends, stay in and watch this for plenty laughs and good times
it's a shame, this is a good movie, if you're part of the THC club....And luckily i am, and i really enjoyed this movie.I can though see that(definitely for non-tokers) this movie may seem boring, lack of plot or what-not BUT this is not an ART-house movie, it really was simply made to quench the thirst and appetite of "stoners"..For this alone the movie scores very highly as with the likes of "half baked", "idol hands" and any new or old stoner film, they have a very specific target audience.
With all this said, if you don't smoke, or don't even have friends that smoke, then you will probably hate this film as you will be far flung to find some common ground between yourself and the flick, and this is not art-house, so being entertained you will not...
Sum-UP: if you have never drank alcohol, would you sit through a buddy movie based entirely around the booze? if yes then watch this flick, if not, then you may learn to love to hate this flick..
This is one of my favourite films, i can agree it is not anywhere near one of the "Greats", but in my opinion and in MY life it means a lot, so, 8.5 out of 10

200 Cigarettes (1999)
i think you gotta be puff puffed out to be into this film
It may just be me but when i was introduced into this flick through a mate of mine back in 2002 and thought it was absolutely brilliant...BUT this may just be me.I love films with small budgets/small budget looks etc and with a plot that can keep you well entertained.
Personally i felt that every actor/actress involved done a marvelous job with their roles, and being a fan of the likes of Paul Rudd, Dave Chappelle (also tied with him Guillermo Diaz - Half Baked is a classic) and definitely not forgetting the Afflecks, and to stimulate that macho side of me i better name Janeane Garofalo as a great cult actor.I found myself gut-twisted to realize that Courtney Love (to whom i thought i despised) was pretty damn alright in this flick (again i haven't really seen another flick with her in).
Back on point and to conclude i watched this flick about 3 years ago and loved it...Over time it kept creeping up on me and remembering the title i search the net and was sad to realize that a PAL(UK/Euro) copy was not available...Thy blessed thou Multi-region DVD Player and bought an NTSC from the states and the results were that of one satisfied customer. As to summarizing, if you enjoy films such as Half Baked, Idle Hands or teen movies to the likes of Van Wilder then buying this movie is without a doubt for you..If you are the absolute opposite of this then i advise you SPRINT away from this movie as with all NEW satirical comedies there are phrases/words that may be offensive to some and also not too many people are comfortable with liberal-type issues, older generations shall i say?.
Buy this movie but remember you are not buying the "meaning of life" so don't expect miracles such as water into wine but do expect an attractive cast and plot with many many laughs throughout.

7 out of 10 because life's worth IT
American Pie (1999)
A well rounded AND complete teen movie
As a huge fan of teen-comedy type flicks it's no surprise that i highly rate this movie. The plot is that of one which a 16 year old can highly identify with. Why? Simply because this film quite accurately depicts the life and behaviors of (perhaps ALL) teenagers.
I recently read a comment made about this film (a negative one) and i found myself developing the image of an insecure 35 year old who had no fun at high school, irregardless of this, how can someone be watching "American Pie" for the first time in 2002...American Pie 2 was already released then...Behind the times, yes, perhaps.
Overall to come onto IMDb and write a review of what IS a "CLASSIC" and the "STANDARD" for any teen movie to this date is just quite funny actually, i have met many types of people with all kinds of personalities and not heard one thing wrong or negative about this film.I do not believe in comparing one teen movie to another because each are their own films, with their own plots/sub-plots, one liners etc etc.But in order to accurately draw up some sort of conclusion and/or list of titles in order of the better, then this must be done AND as much as i love the "PIE" Series of films i have many other favorites that in my opinion don't add up to feel as fresh and funny as the "PIE's" but FUNNY they very much are.
If you watch this movie and feel totally disgusted/disappointed/bored/sick/revolted/annoyed even, well think of this, MAYBE it's something to do with YOU and your personality, remember this IS entertainment, NOT REAL LIFE! If it were it would be totally boring.
A lot of people (Peeete from UK for one) say the creators were being dishonest etc about the story and it's world far from reality!? What did you do with your friends at school? i agree there is a lack of real behaviors i.e bullying etc but if you take time to hear what the film-makers have to say you will realize you are out of your own depth, Adam Herz clearly states in the "making of..." that his school-life and friends had an "OMAGE" feel to it....The point i am making is MY SCHOOL felt like this....Yes some people hate each other BUT it's cast away in the shadows when you bring to light the "togetherness" feel everyone has.American Pie : Stifler is the (somewhat more verbal less physical) bully. It's all there for your "real world" eyes to see but when you directly compare this Flick to your actual life then YOU ARE OF COURSE GOING TO BE Disappointed! Comdeies are made for laughs, i laughed, a lot, therefore this is a pretty damn good comedy, i just wish that in the real-world where we all live more people could just let themselves go when watching a film of this genre, instead of getting all worked up over a movie about a dude who screws a pie :) ********* out of **********
