XO, Kitty (2023)
Only reason I watched the 10 ep. was for Min Ho
The series is a far cry from the To All The Boys trilogy. I never really cared for the meddling and hyperactive youngest sister in the movies so it was hard to watch her as a main character in the series and root for her as the protagonist. I would have stopped watching had it not been for Min Ho and hearing the amazing K-pop music. They didn't really develop some of the characters unfortunately and Kitty always focused on herself and her problems with Dae. Also why the need for a poorly developed love square? Don't understand why Kuri was part of the equation because her goal all along was to get a certain someone back. It was poor writing, poorly executed acting except for the lovely Min Ho, cringeworthy scenes, and didn't really have a realistic korean high school experience. It was drama on top of drama on top of drama but lacked the k-drama greatness.
Prom Pact (2023)
Break the Prom Pact and Don't Attend
Not another Disney Channel movie.... cant' believe I would ever say this but how is this movie categorized as a Disney Channel movie? It is not appropriate for kids to watch due to underage drinking, partying, adult language and content as well as a specific narrative that is being pushed, and issues blah blah blah. Why can't we just enjoy a movie without getting a narrative pushed at every step? It's another flop for Disney.... Why haven't they taken the hint that nobody asks for this? The plot was nothing special, terrible teenage acting per usual for Disney Channel, trying to rebrand the spectacular 80s movies into promposals with a weird meaning that the ones asking to prom don't listen or take an interest in what girls want in a promposal. Don't waste your time with this movie.
Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (2021)
Why does Disney+ produce such awful shows?
Another flop for Disney+ and of course pushing a specific narrative and their ideology on the viewer. It's not even subliminal messaging at this point. The acting of course is cringeworthy, highly unrealistic for a 16 year old to be a doctor at a hospital while living a "normal" life, and the storylines are not noteworthy. Additionally, the content for this show is not for kids as there is adult content brought up in the first 10 min of the first episode about getting pregnant... and the line came from a 16 year old girl. It's unfortunate that parents now have to be more aware of what their children are watching on Disney+.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (2021)
Creating Mighty Gen Z Snowflakes
Terrible acting from Disney Channel Gen Z first gig kids and adults who act like they are still in high school. The premise somewhat demonizes hard work as well as dedication to youth sports but seems to praise the participation award you now receive. I understand the underdog storyline continues from the original Mighty Ducks movies but the writers are creating snowflakes for future generations. Playing sports is supposed to be fun especially as a kid but the mom focuses way too much on doing whatever feels good, giving out participation awards and doesn't care to learn the sport and rules her son dedicates his past time to. The first season was alright since they brought back Emilio Estevez but replaced him with Josh Duhamel the second season.... Not keeping up with the Mighty Ducks legacy. Disney+ needs to come up with their own material that is kid friendly, promotes good family friendly values and not focus so much on revamping and reinventing the wheel to great movies and shows.
The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022)
Where are the parental figures?
When I first saw the trailer for the show, I got excited that it was based on a novel from the To All the Boys series author also the two male leads piqued my interest. Unfortunately, the show was a bit underwhelming and lackluster. Some of the questions I had were where are the parents and why aren't they parenting unruly teenagers? Allowing underage teenagers to drink, do drugs, and go wherever they pleased at all hours of the day and night without any reprimanding is not a good parenting style. The show also includes woke dialogue and subtly tried pushing a left leaning narrative down your throat. I also heard that the show series massively deviated from the story and characters written by the author. It's unfortunate that is the case because it showed great promise. Some of the acting and scenes were a bit cringeworthy and you weren't really rooting for the main character.
Bridgerton (2020)
Season 1: Hot, Steamy, Thrilling / Season 2: Lackluster, Boring
The first season of Bridgerton created quite a stir when it was released, leaving passionate viewers impatiently waiting for a season 2. I loved the passion between the Duke and Daphne and the whole storyline was charming, seductive, and no disappointment. The Duke of Hasting's absence in the second season is a huge void unable to be filled by the eldest son of the Bridgerton family. Although he was introduced in the first season having sex on a tree, the second season waits painstakingly long for Anthony and Kate to do the dirty deed. It was excruciatingly tiresome throughout the hour long eight episodes to ultimately be a lackluster and extremely modest storyline. Part of the craze of Bridgerton were the steamy sex scenes but in the second season, it felt inauthentic and a strange montage rather than passion, desire, and that authenticity for their first time.
However, some shows do entice viewers by adding shock value with lots of steamy scenes for the first season and then tame the beast from season 2 on. Hopefully, the views and reviews of season 2 will let the show creators know the sweet spot to get back to the greatness of the first season when they start production on season 3 and 4. Unfortunately, they may have lost a lot of viewers... myself included with the tragedy of the second season.
Season 1: 10 stars
Season 2: 2 stars.
Algoissjiman (2021)
"Do you want to go see butterflies?" Why yes, yes I do.
Nevertheless, is my first kdrama that I have ever watched and now I'm hooked. The on screen chemistry between the two main characters was palpable and even the natural flow of the friends and their storylines made it a great watch. Not only was the chemistry on point but even the acting was refreshing and raw. I understand many will say that Park Jae Eon was toxic and that it is stupid of Yoo Na bi to try to fix him but the storyline was intoxicating for viewers...like a moth (or a butterfly in this instance) drawn to a flame!
Love, Victor (2020)
An interesting story in the Love, Simon world
Love, Simon was a refreshing movie so I was originally intrigued with the new concept of Love, Victor. The characters in Season 1 were a bit one-dimensional but it was an interesting take on a different family, the struggles of coming out, and navigating through a new high school. Season 2 was off to a great start after the cliffhanger of the Season 1 finale, however, some of the show's storylines can be interpreted by some viewers to be off-putting, woke and categorizing all white people to come from privilege and not understanding struggles. Victor over-analyzed every single comment, detail and experience which at times created unnecessary drama and conflict between characters when things could have been avoided all together. Season 2 left us with another cliffhanger but it wasn't as enticing as the Season 1 finale and I'm not sure the new storyline they set up for a potential Season 3 will be very original.
Awake (2021)
Don't stay Awake for this movie
Do not waste your time watching this terrible movie. The plot points, character development and overall story was choppy, random and poorly written even the dialogue was bad. You do not care about/root for the main characters or their mission to get the child who miraculously can sleep to this hub to find the cure.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
Sweet Tooth... more like Cavity
The supposed 10-year old hybrid named Sweet Tooth gives you a cavity. His character is annoying, selfish, and a pain. I could only finish 3 episodes before deciding to turn it off.
I don't think anyone was asking for a pandemic post-apocalyptic show with a woke narrative. For the life of me I can't understand why Netflix would release a show that has the remaining survivors wearing masks and turning to extreme violence with no laws especially in the current climate we are in.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Poor copycat of Amazon's The Boys and Marvel Superhero Universe
I was intrigued by this series from the trailer and thought it would be similar to Amazon's The Boys or the Marvel universe. Unfortunately, I was greatly disappointed but already watched two episodes that sucked me in to the point where I had to know what was going to happen at the end of this Volume. One of the downsides to this story was that there were many different plots within the story that intertwined with each other but confusing to understand the overall timeline. The supposed big twist of the storyline wasn't even a twist because you could already tell who the real villain was from the beginning and it took the heroes 7 episodes to make the journey which was very annoying as a viewer since it was stretched out that much. Their "code" made the fight scenes very boring and the visual effects weren't aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Knowing Netflix, they will renew this series for a second volume due to the hype of heroes...
High School Musical: The Musical - The Series (2019)
Poor acting and a bit cringeworthy
The long winded title "High School Musical The Musical The Series" probably explains it all that it is definitely not a hit series. Unfortunately, like other Disney shows, the acting is poorly done and a bit cringeworthy. Most of the characters don't have enough depth and there is too much conflict between the two main protagonists, Ricky and Nini of will they, won't they... oldest storyline in the book. There were major sparks between the two during the first season but it seems that things have fizzled out at the start of season two probably due to the fact of the rumors that they broke up and had to continue filming like they were still deeply and madly in love? Some of the side storylines that are playing out in the first episode of the second season seem rushed and awkwardly placed. Additionally, for a kid friendly show, Disney+ sure does like pushing a PC and woke narrative to children whose thoughts and beliefs can be easily influenced at a young age by indoctrinating them into what they believe is the right and only way to believe in and strongly stand beside. Hopefully, the initial hype of the series has died down for people to realize that HSM should never have been adapted into a poorly written spinoff series.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Would have been a great show but now Disney+ is pushing an agenda
The Falcon & Winter Soldier showed great promise for the first few episodes even though it was hard to compare to the greatness of Wandavision. After the first few episodes, it was apparent that the premise of the show has become very politically correct and woke. It's unfortunate that there is no originality to this series and they are jumping on the leftist bandwagon. Disney and the writers are basically saying it is okay to entertain all by compromising values and serve a purpose of trying to convert people to your thinking... not very Captain America-esque. Also, the theme that it is the government's responsibility to step in and take care of all of its people to the point where everyone is dependent on the government and under their control is not the American values many people were raised. Unfortunately, all of these storylines made up for the overall theme for the rest of the season. It did have potential to be a good show with an interesting storyline but unfortunate of the writers to push their narrative.... hopefully, we do not receive a second season.
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist (2020)
S1: 10/10, S2: Quickly went downhill to a 4/10
S1: Refreshing, unique, funny, easy to relate to for those who have experienced losing loved ones slowly.
S2: The first few episodes were relatable for those who have experienced the grieving process and going through all of your emotions. I cried and related so much. This season had great promise but unfortunately it is no longer unique and refreshing. There are now weird plot stories that randomly got plugged in episodes in order to be woke that were never referenced in the first season or the first few episodes of season 2.
Hopefully, the show will not be renewed for a season 3 as it has taken a major dive.
Allen v. Farrow (2021)
One-Sided Documentary
It was obvious that the documentary was completely one-sided and portrayed in a way that could make one think that there is beyond reasonable doubt to believe Dylan and Mia Farrow's story. The saying is there are two sides to every story and then there's the truth. Unfortunately, the documentary only followed one side to the story. The series was quite disturbing but there seemed to be missing pieces to the puzzle that weren't pursued further and a string of Mia Farrow followers that wanted to push a specific narrative that suited their side of the story.
One thing I found particularly peculiar was that Mia Farrow brought up slapping her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi. However, that topic was never pressed further by the interviewers and came off from a viewers perspective as nonchalant. Wouldn't an investigated journalist pursue that topic further by asking other adopted sons and daughters if there was any kind of behavior at home from Mia Farrow and also investigate other siblings point of views.
For a documentary that claimed to take years of research, it didn't want to present the full case and present a different side of the story. It wanted shock value and to further destroy and alienate a famed director.
A Week Away (2021)
Predictable but a feel-good Christian movie
It is nice and refreshing for Netflix to drop a feel-good Christian movie on their streaming platform. Although the movie was predictable and some scenes and musical numbers a bit cringe-worthy, the overall message was about acceptance and God understanding people's struggles in life which was relatable to watch.
Spontaneous (2020)
Bloody and stupid "coming-of-age" love story
Horrible, bloody and stupid "coming-of-age" love story that was a complete waste of time. There were multiple anti-Trump, anti-Republican references that spewed hatred and just didn't seem relevant at all. We get it you hate Trump and the Republican Party...however, for a party that preaches acceptance, this movie's writing sure does bash people that don't have the same views.
