Tut (2015)
Had potential, but...
I've looked forward to this mini-series from the first time I saw its preview, and I have to say I'm very disappointed! I can tolerate its predictable storytelling had it been visually appealing, but alas, its direction and cinematography were lackluster and editing was sloppy. I felt like watching a B movie that went straight to DVD. I expected something in the likes of The White Queen. What a complete waste of production set and costume design, as well as talent (specifically Ben Kingsley). The casting was terrible; the actor who played Tut, Avan Jogia, was dull and overshadowed by everyone else. Same goes for the actress who played Ankhe who lacked depth. Sad notion as they were given top billing. I think Peter Gadiot would've made a better Tut acting-wise, although physically Avan fit the looks. Overall, I think it had a lot of potential, but sadly did not deliver.
Downton Abbey (2010)
Best program on television
I've watched Downton Abbey since since it first aired in 2010. I am a huge Maggie Smith fan and I've seen pretty much every movie/program she's ever been in. DA is one of those programs that does not stick to just a single plot. Its rich characters have their own story to tell which makes this program very interesting without having to try too hard. It does not pretend to tell history but it pulls you in that by the end of the hour, you'd have felt like you should've been in the 1920's. By the end of Season 3, I wondered how they'd continue on with Season 4 without the Mary and Matthew romance. Amazingly enough, Season 4 continued where they left off with the same captivating drama it's been known for since day 1. Definitely a must-see!

Saw this movie out of curiosity...
I'm familiar with two of the main cast (Toby Regbo of Reign and Joanne Froggatt of Downton Abbey). It started off a bit slow for me, but it got interesting after Mark heard the news about Rachel.
I did not know this movie is based on real events! It reminds me so much of Heavenly Creatures with Kate Winslet, but without the attraction between friends of course.
The twist at the end was totally unexpected. It makes you wonder how, as a movie watcher, you missed the signs that led to the ending. Overall, it's an enjoyable movie!
Fantastic actors, great plot.
Reign (2013)
What a breath of fresh air!
I really enjoy this show! I didn't expect much knowing it's from CW, so I assumed the worst (ie. green screen, bad casting, etc.) What a pleasant surprise it was. The fact that they shoot on location at a real castle is a huge plus for me.
Amazing cast! I love the actress playing Mary Stuart. She's so beautiful and captivating, you will think she's from the era. The actor playing Francis is so charming and expressive. These two have the best chemistry I've seen on television in a long time. The rest of the cast is also pretty strong.
I was wary at first of the use of modern music but it actually works out very well. Great soundtrack! Great use of modern costumes too.
Now I know a lot of people would be upset at how historically inaccurate this series is. I myself am a history nut, especially medieval drama. If you can understand that this is prime time television shown on a network aimed at a younger demographic, you will enjoy this program as much I as do.
As of this writing, there has only been 8 episodes on Season 1, and I can't wait to see more. I hope the writers don't stray and "get lost in Neverland" as the writers on Once Upon a Time did on Season 3.
TO THE WRITERS: Keep the storyline intact and interesting. Don't force any issue that has already been resolved. And please, keep the integrity of the Mary-Francis relationship. Don't cheapen it by forcing a love triangle. There are countless ways to keep a 22-episode series entertaining and so many character back stories to explore. But no matter what you do, I hope you don't kill off Francis yet at the end of the Season 1 :)
Once Upon a Time (2011)
Started off great, but fizzled out on the 3rd year
I enjoyed this series at first! When they cast Ginny Goodwin who's had a strong movie background, I expected it to have big budget in casting, production and costume design. So when I saw green screens being used, I was disappointed. But I kept watching. I really loved the Snow/Charming bits and the introduction of new characters on practically every episode. Well at least until Year 3, when the Neverland scenes seemed to go on and on and on...
I hope the writers keep tabs on reviews so they can improve on it, but as for me, I don't even record the show anymore. I just watch it if I happen to catch it. Sad because it had real promise.
