Narc (2002)
9/10
Brilliant cop movie
11 August 2005
I just recently watched Narc and was expecting something like Training Day in a way. After i watched it i was amazed at how great this film was. Honestly i believe it is just as good as Training Day if not better. Narc is such a brilliant film mainly because of its stellar acting, superb story, gritty dialog, and dark and eerie mood setting.

We start with Nick Tellis(Jason Patric). Nick is a former narcotics officer who lost his job due to a bust gone wrong which lead to a terrible incident. About 18 months later he is brought back to work on the case of a Michael Calvess, an undercover cop who was mysteriously killed in an attempted bust a couple of months back. He is teamed with Calvess' partner Henry Oak(Ray Liotta), a rogue cop who will stop at nothing to catch his partner's killers. They work towards the men responsible and go through junkie after junkie until it leads to the truth and a thrilling conclusion.

Throughout the movie we see the inner demons of both men and how they deal with them. Nick is a family man but his marriage has been shaky due to him being back on the force and the problems at home take a toll on his work. Oak on the other hand is very unstable and rugged, but we learn about his past and how he lost his wife and he basically has nothing to live for and looks back on the family he never had. And he uses that to live his life and go to work with that pain and you feel for both of the men.

Although there is excessive use of foul language in the film it is almost an exact visual of what it is like to make a perfect film. The movie shows the harsh reality of working undercover as a narcotics officer and junkies throughout the film. This is personally one of my favorite films and I highly recommend this to any fan of cop or mystery films.
