An error has ocurred. Please try againI haven't exactly been able to pinpoint what a scary movie must contain in order for me to like it but I have decided that it must have at least 1 (hopefully more) of the following:
1) A story that's more than "here's a group of people that we know are all going to die. Let's put them all together and try the guess the order in which they're killed!" 2) A story that's more than "Hey look at this kitchen appliance/broken bicycle/music instrument/animal carcass/lawn sign/weird pair of pants/other item that's generally not a weapon. Look at it kill people!" 2) At least two characters that I can care about if not actually like 3) Unexpected, engaging, twists
Not saying that movies that don't fit this bill are bad or that I hate them all - just that I don't typically enjoy them. (I'm squirmy, what can I say) - please suggest any that you think I'd like that I did not add!
Reviews
The Conners (2018)
Surprisingly good!
Surprisngly good. I don't understand the reviews calling it political. OK. Maybe a little with the green card marriage but otherwise I don't see how it's political. Lecy Goranson is fabulous, I hope we keep seeing her beyond the Roseanne/Conners world. Sometimes I wish Jackie had more to do but that's a minor complaint.
Imaginary Mary (2017)
Old School family sitcom - SO FUNNY
If this had been made in the 1990s, it would be right at home on TGIF between Step by Step and Boy Meets World. Jenna Elfman is the QUEEN of physical comedy (and Stephen Schneider is no slouch either). My favorite characters have to be the kids though, especially Andy. The kid that plays him is HILARIOUS. (Teenage me would have been super in love with him, for sure.) Rachel Dratch as Mary is super fun too and she is used just the right amount, not overwhelmingly so.
Imaginary Mary is just one of those sitcoms with a simple, well executed premise that the whole family can enjoy. It really has so much potential, hopefully ABC thinks so too.
Playing House (2014)
Hilarious
I have watched the first five episodes of Playing House and this is my review. Bravo to USA for such a funny, well-made sitcom. This show is hilarious - as I knew it would be since Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair are writing as well as starring in it. The acting is great - Lennon and Jessica really work well off each other. The supporting cast is a treat, from Keegan Michael Key to the always superb Jane Kczmarek are pretty much perfect. The writing is clever and sharp and although the "returning to small town" trope is not new, Playing House somehow makes it fresh. The guest stars have been great too (Andy Daly, Jason Mantzoukas!) Can't wait to see what else these funny ladies have up their sleeves!
