I was so touched by this movie that it's hard to articulate my feelings in words. Willam Hurt and Marlee Matlin have given what can be said as the performance of a lifetime. No doubt that she received a well-deserved academy award for this incredible performance making her the first deaf actress to win an Oscar.
James (Hunt) is newly inducted faculty at a school for deaf falls for Sarah (Matlin), a school alumnus and now Janitor at school. He is desperate to help her develop speech but she's adamant at being speechless by choice and it is this conflict that makes this relationship interesting.
What impressed me the most about this movie was the way William Hurt made the sign language look easy. This is what method acting is all about. Also, his chemistry with Matlin is exceptionally good. Not to mention the background score is terrific.
Watch this now.
