Midnight Mass (2021)
Zach Gilford is under rated
He's been one of my favorite actors since FNL. He's so good at playing believable, adorable, realistic, "Everyman" characters. The emotions he conveys using just his face, are so realistically understated. He reminds me of people I know in real life because he could easily be your next door neighbor.
Also, love the Sheriff.
Supernatural (2005)
My favorite show
I'm in my 40s, so I've seen a lot of TV. I started watching Supernatural on Netflix in the fall of 2017 and was hooked. It is my favorite show of all time. Great writing, underrated acting, drama, humor (even meta, self-deprecating humor), fantasy, horror, romance...it has it all. Some members of the fandom are horrible bullies, but by and large, the show has created a family of fans that are bonded in their love of the show, including the cast and crew.
Critics that claim the show is homophobic are off their rockers; they're bitter because a couple didn't end up together.
Yes, the finale was underwhelming, but it was because they had to produce it immediately after mandatory quarantine, and resources were extremely limited. They tried to make the finale as poignant as possible for the fans, under the circumstances. People need to be more understanding and realistic of their expectations of production quality during a pandemic.
This show will make you fall in love.
Little Fires Everywhere: Find a Way (2020)
Would give this ep 8.5/10
This is not going to be a super deep review. To be honest, this is actually a review of the entire season. 1. Holy cow, did casting do a fantastic job with the Richardson family! All 4 kids look like the spawn of Reese and Joshua and very, very much like siblings. 2. I love Kerry Washington but her expressions as Mia were distracting. She always looked like she smelled something bad. 3. I thought the kids did an amazing job in this ep. 4. Love me some Joshua Jackson; always reliable, always entertaining. 5. I want a season 2 so I can find out what happened to everyone. How was the Wright reunion? Does Izzy come home? What happens with Mayling, Bebe, and the McCulloughs? How do the Richardson kids end up? Does Elena go to jail (or a mental institution)? Does Bill leave Elena? Since the secret's out and MiA can openly sell her art, do she and Pearl get a real home? Does Lexi end up at Yale?
Honestly, I didn't see any of the mothers as protagonists or antagonists; there were good and bad things about all of them. Mia, Elena, Linda, and Bebe all had their pluses and minuses. For me, the acting that stood out was from the kids (Richardsons and Pearl), always JJ, and Bebe (Lu Huang).
The story is a racially and socioeconomic ally-charged soap opera.
Stand by Me (1986)
A Modern Classic
I was 10 years old when this came out. It was one of the VCR tapes my parents bought and we watched it over and over.
My kids are 11, 13, and 15, and we just watched it together. And it's a classic for a reason - all 3 loved it, just as much as I did as a kid.
Even though it takes place generations ago, and the main characters are all boys, so much of growing up is, and will always be, universal.
Not to mention the acting and directing...it's almost eerie how talented those boys were.
Supernatural: Red Meat (2016)
Guest Star Scene Stealer
This is an excellent episode that combines everything that makes Supernatural great: action, emotion, uncertainty...and amazing acting.
Jared and Jenson are reliably great, "Michelle", actress Erin Way, has always stood out to me in this episode. She 1000% effectively breaks your heart as you can see all over her face how much pain (mostly emotional, but also physical) she's in. Her performance is perfectly compelling and understated all at once. I would love for the writers to bring her back at some point. And I always love when "Billie", aka Lisa Berry, makes an appearance.
It's one of those episodes that make you think about how thin the line between good and evil really can be.
