Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Not great, but definitely not bad - a decent watch
I would say its a solid 7/10. Nicely relates to part one. Its not Snyder's best work. But its not so bad as some of the other reviewers are making it.
I didn't have much expectation from a Netflix production. But its way better than an average Netflix movie. The movie could have been way better with a big studio and production house behind it. The story is solid but again could have been much better. I heard WB turned it down. I feel it could have been a great movie series with more investments, writers, producers, dialogues, a little more touching portrayal (the story is there but lacks representation). Maybe will get to see more in the extended cut.
Overall, the movie is very good in my opinion. Watching the two movies together back-to-back is better. Don't suggest listening to those giving 1 or 2 rating. They just have some personal vendetta against Snyder. Without any bias, its a solid watch without any nonsense or stupid jokes.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
A mess
I could barely enjoy it. The story seemed very disconnected - lots of lengthy conversation to explain things rather than delivering a interesting plot reveal. They tried to create sort of suspense, the urgency of situations - but they really fell short. There are a lot of stunt works but just only stunts don't really build a movie. Really missed the hype or surprise of the old movies. For instance, in MI4, there was a constant suspense - the Kremlin scene, burj khalifa. This movie really lacks such sequences. The continuous silly hand tricks really made it uninteresting. The movie lacks a solid villain as well. Overall i really disliked this movie - its not a surprise it failed at the box office.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Mixed Bag: Not too good, not too bad
I have to disagree with so many overwhelmingly positive reviews - some are saying this is one of the best mcu movies. Definitely not 8+ score. Its a solid 6.
In my opinion, the movie is not that good really. It has a lot of lame scenes - something I really dont like, especially gunn's movies have those cringe moments. And obviously, poop and piss jokes - that's really unnecessary and annoying. The casting and especially the portrayal of Adam Warlock is the biggest downgrade. The character's arc is completely ridiculous. Same waste of character like drax. Apart from all those silly jokes, the action sequences were also pretty bad.
What i really liked in the movie is raccoon's story - it was a really nic touch. Thats probably the only good part in the movie that people really loved. High evolutionary was also nic - but in the end, it somewhat fell apart a bit. Kind of like pushing the story the way you want - lazy writing in other words. Overall, its decent fun watch - but i wouldn't call it a very good movie.
Black Adam (2022)
Not great, not bad - just ok
To be honest, i like dwayne but he is not very good at acting. So the emotional parts of the movie really felt dull - doesn't quite match the tune. I understand his passion for the character - but the character development was really poor. Story is there, but it just didn't bloom. The child sidekick story also felt quite frail - doesn't create any emotions, couldn't really feel it.
What i most liked about this movie is Dr. Fate. Pierce brosnan was just awesome. I totally loved him. He really delivered quite a compelling performance.
The vfx work was also good. In some places, it felt a bit down - especially, in some black adam's action sequences. But design of dr. Fate, sabbath was top-notch.
The movie lacks a soul, imho. But overall, its quite a watchable movie. Not a bad one.
My expectation was not much - so i was not disappointed. If you compare dwayne's acting with someone like affleck - dwayne is really not good at that. Affleck displays quite a range of powerful emotions in every scene as bruce. That sth is really lacking in dwayne's performance.
Life (2017)
Quite underrated but a great film
To be honest, i was completely hooked from the beginning to the end. It was a thrilling experience, really bone-chilling. The characters are great, visuals are also extremely nice. Thrilling experience in the space. The story is also done pretty nicely.
Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from. Maybe bcz trying to question every little things - tbh, it really takes away the fun from the movie.
Its quite a nice thriller - directed and created beautifully. I found the movie really interesting. Its definitely a solid 8. I still re-watch the movie sometimes. I love those movies that i find re-watchable. So, i am giving it a 9.
Nope (2022)
Not great, but not bad either
A bit slow-paced, but really a good one if you put some thought into it. Definitely not a great movie, but it is not so bad as many other reviews are saying. The storyline and idea is good, acting is also decent enough. Peele managed to put forward sth different. It still quite misses the mark - you know - something more - a bit more. Cant say much without giving away any spoilers.
All in all, i would give it a decent 7.5 - its fun to watch something different, otherwise if all the movies are of the same type with similar kinda story, it becomes boring. Its nice to have a director who put things in a bit different way - still i believe the movie could have a bit better.
Happy watching.
Legion (2017)
Probably the most underrated tv series
It starts with a boom - season 1 is an epic masterpiece. The creativity, the cinematography, as well as the storytelling are very very different, something hardly any of us had ever seen before. Its quite intriguing and very fascinating.
Dan stevens played the character of 'legion' brilliantly. I didn't know about this character before. And the way a powerful character like this is portrayed is really an truly epic. Hands off to the show's creators. Even the characters like charles xavier were beautifully portrayed. Sadly, we didn't get to see sir Patrick or Mcavoy due to limited budget, but lloyd was brilliant as well.
Its quite unfortunate that the show didn't get much attention. However, its far better than many recent marvel productions. I wish the show had continued with new villains and new stories.
Season 2 is a little boring with 11 episodes. But season 3 brought a nice ending to the story i believe. Season 1 is definitely the best and considering only that - it is surely one of my most favorite series of all time.
Shazam! (2019)
The same old same old humor and humor - nothing else there
Basically the movie is nothing but humor and some actions. The story or character development is really very poor. Its just meaningless fun for 2hrs and thats all.
If you are a movie lover and really like to feel the movie - lose yourself in the story, an escape from the world -- these movies dc r making are really not for you.
Snyder and Nolan took the cbm movies to a height that these type of marvel and dc movies can never reach. These r okay for some momentary fun but then they r lost - i will never watch them twice. Even the animated dc movies r far better these nonsense.
Watchmen (2009)
A Hidden Gem and a complete masterpiece
First of all, this is not your typical cbm movies. If you only prefer comedy, humor, and some one and a half hour of fun without hardly a proper story - this movie is definitely not for you.
I will always consider this one as one of the best cbm movies of all time. I have watched almost all marvel and dc movies and series. I must say, this one is a unique movie by design. The recent marvel and dc movies feel like just some cheap thrills and meaningless dialogs and fighting sequence, hardly any story at all. I watch them only once - then i lose interest completely. But this one, i still feel like watch again and again and not feel bored at all.
This is not like the recent cbm movies, rather a unique one- which has a very interesting plot if you give it some thoughts. This is not also focused on a super hero either. But the flow of the movie is just so mesmerizing, the characters are so well developed and portrayed. I mean, u can think dr.manhattan - a being with supreme power - delivering a powerful character like that nicely is very difficult - but the way he was depicted in this movie is just mind-blowing. I dont think anyone else could have done that so beautifully except snyder.
My most favorite character here is definitely rorschach and from start to finish, i was completely hooked at this character.
Finally, hats off to snyder to deliver such an epic masterpiece. The storyline is so impressive. The cinematography is just badass. The dialogs are to the point and really well written. I must say, when it comes to cbm movies, snyder is just unequalled to any other directors.
Moon Knight (2022)
Oscar Isaac at his best
Isaac put a powerful performance in this show. Especially, episode 5 was totally mind-blowing - isaac's acting was superb. And he should definitely get an emmy for that.
The show started rather slowly. First three episodes may not be the best. It starts to hit off from episode 4. Episode 5 is definitely unique and one of the best episodes from marvel shows.
I saw many negative reviews there. Some are giving even 2-3. It is definitely not that bad. Most of them didn't watch the whole series. I also saw one of them complaining about the accent :D
In my personal opinion, this series is definitely a good one. In most marvel shows, we hardly get to see the acting skills. However, isaac definitely put forward by far the best performance. This series is not just actions and vfx - but more of a journey and development of the character.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
What's with all these bad reviews?
Personally, I enjoyed this movie - I didn't keep any high expectations and was very satisfied. Some people had very high hope for this movie and got frustrated.
As the plot is more connected to wanda than strange, and some people just didn't quite comprehend (or feel it from inside) wanda's perspective - they felt bored. Also some people wanted more of multiverse - however, as this one introduces the concept - i think what the movie contained is more or less enough. Although I would have loved to see more of the illuminati and especially my favorite Charles Xavier.
Again, this is not a movie regarding the multiverse, rather a follow-up on the wandavision storyline where strange eventually gets tangled. The action sequences were really good. Pacing and length was fine. The story lacked the element of surprise as the villain was introduced at the beginning of the movie.
However, overall (being a strange+benedict fan) - i loved the movie. It is nor trash nor epic. A decent 8 out of 10 would be a good score.
The Cinematic Universe: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) (2016)
This is so awesome
This is definitely one of the best CBM movies. Gosh!!! Affleck as batman is just awesome. The action sequences are definitely the best batman action scene on camera. U can see bruce shaking with anger when he confronts superman - u can even feel his rage. And if u look closely, u'll find that there are so many subtle details throughout the movie. The design of batmobile as well as the batwing is also the best. The knightmare timeline completely blew my mind. Snyder is definitely a master movie-maker when it comes to dc.
Even after so many years, when i sit to watch this movie - i feel delighted, not even slightly bored. Cannot say the same for many marvel movies though.
Eternals (2021)
What's with the bad reviews?
I am quite surprised finding so many bad reviews. Certainly the movie has a few flaws - sometimes with the special effects, sometimes with the acting of certain actor, sometimes with the dialog. - they are few and can easily be ignored. Still its far better than many other marvel movies. It has quite an intriguing storyline, some strong character building, a very nice emotional touch, also gravity. This could be better of course - but still i loved it and will be among my favorite marvel movies.
Personally, I always feel adding unnecessary humor and jokes completely destroys the urgency of a situation - ultimately the movie. Movies like shang-chi, aquaman have great action sequence. But what they mostly lack is that i cannot 'feel' those movies. Completely losing oneself inside the story is what a movie should be. There are many marvel and dc (except snyder's) movies that i never watch more than once bcz they dont offer nothing but cgi and pointless jokes. Eternals tried to be much different in that aspect.
And those who complaining about the runtime, when u're introducing 10 characters in a single movie - u should expect that would take time do it properly. And chloe jhao did it nicely. Loving and understanding the characters is what gives a movie a 'memory'.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Justice is served
It's been a long time since I watched a 4hr long movie but I must say this one is a complete masterpiece.
Whedon's JL sucked in every way possible while Zack's JL is far better than that in every way.
Each and every character is so beautifully portrayed and developed throughout the movie especially cyborg and flash. They were almost left out from the whedon's version. But here their characters are so brilliantly introduced. we get to know the journey they take which sums up in the quote - "I'm not broken and I'm not alone"
This is one of the best comic based movies and will remain my favourite for a long time. Thanks zack and HBO and every fans involved who made it possible to deliver us this masterpiece.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Underrated Unappreciated Masterpiece
The gradual build-up of the story is really great.
ben affleck as batman is the best thing i've seen. and some of the action scenes are the best of the best.
zack's DC movies have a completely different tone than the marvel movies. So comparison is delusive.
Zack's movies have a darker theme and I personally feel this movie as well as the ZSJL will stood the test of time and remain a complete masterpiece as a comic based movie for a long time.
El hoyo (2019)
It's a gem
Its quite intriguing and metaphorical..there are so many things hidden - u've to watch very carefully to figure them out. the metaphors are used very carefully and really depicts a powerful picture of our present society
Dynasties (2018)
The best thing I've seen
Its probably the best thing I've seen. It's so amazing. Planet earth 2, blue planet 2, seven worlds-one planet -- these are also epic. But Dynasty is a bit different than them.Following the life of a single species - It was heart-warming and mesmerizing.
Fair Game (2010)
not a fiction but based on true story
Just wow
brings out a thrilling experience and sheds light on the truths that have been masked. The truths about the WMD program and US invasion on Iraq,The abuse of power by the high government officials and how they prevaricate from the right questions.
