All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Only good on the surface
Regrettably, despite its abundant promise, this mini-series succumbs to a prevalent affliction seen across many Netflix productions: the amalgamation of top-tier actors, stunning visual aesthetics, abysmal dialogue, and the subtle imposition of a "Netflix-agenda" messaging. To compound the issue, the narrative suffers from numerous historical inaccuracies.
The casting decisions exhibit discernible merit, showcasing commendable selections for the characters portrayed.
An incongruity surfaces within the voice acting, where despite featuring French and German personas, the dialogue is uniformly articulated in British English.
Visually, the series ascends to commendable heights. Every aspect, from the picturesque settings to the adept camera work, is executed with finesse.
However, the dialogue gravely disappoints. A persistent flaw within many Netflix originals, it often appears as though the lines were penned by a novice. Lamentably devoid of eloquence in diction, lacking persuasiveness in argumentation, and devoid of the palpable tension in threats, the dialogue falls flat, rendering the exchanges distressingly predictable.
Moreover, character development languishes in scant supply.
In conclusion, while the series manages to evoke a heartening sentiment, its narrative is marred by lackluster writing, thereby undermining its potential impact.
