Father Murphy (1981)
Good during its first season but its second seemed rushed.
I love that show. Season 1 was great because of great directors taking their turns in various episodes, including Mickael Landon himself and Victor French. The writing was top notch too, very sweet and engaging stories that never forgot to be funny as well. The show had even its own villain that was ,beleive it or not, even more evil than ms Oleson but in a funny kind of way.
but season 2 was just a disaster, characters were out of place, their was no more sense of danger that Father Murphy will be unmasked and that was a big loss as I just ended up not caring anymore. Allso Michael Landon stopped writing or directing for the show, that was a big loss in itself as he wrote and directed the best episodes of season 1. No wonder it got canceled in its second season because the people that created the show in the first place didn't seem to care about it anymore.
Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical (2005)
Fun,Fun,Fun
I watched it last night on show-time and i loved it , really good for a show time film. It's very different from your your typical musical,it's closer from Rocky horror picture show than Oklahomma thats for sure. Alan Cumming was perfect as the narrator of the story, his role was mysterious and fun and he did a great job with the part.Ana Gayester was my favorite actress in the film she was just brilliant, and her voice!!!what a voice, bring on the Emmy even if i doubt that a film about marijuana will get one,Ana would deserve it,her comic timing was just perfect and she was very subtle too,I watched the movie twice and had found new things to praise about her acting, really for me she was the star of the show.Kristen Bell was so very cute,I wanted to give her a big hug all trough the movie, she couldn't be more perfect for the part of Mary Jane. One person that nobody commented on yet and for me deserve praise is Robert Torti (Jesus)the part were Jesus sings against marijuana is one of my favorite part of the movie.Making Jesus looks like a cabaret singer was very funny and Robert Torti did it with so much energy and sense of fun that even if his in the movie for that scene only,he leaves a lasting impression. The songs were very good but really only two were stuck on my mind "Mary Jane,Mary Lane" and the "Refeer madness" song. Anyway great movie catch it on show Time,I sure hope that they are planning a DVD release,I'll buy it as soon as it comes out.
D.A.R.Y.L. (1985)
Love it.
Yeh this film is not Oscar material but what it does I believe it does well.I grew up watching this film and I love it dearly.I love movies about robots for some reasons A.I,I am Robot,Terminator even the TV show Small Wonder I used to watch but Daryl is a nice family film and its different from the typical sci fi movie. The first half of the movie you don't even know DARYL is Robot , you would think he's just a genius it's only in the other half of the film were you get the full Truth,it's like two film in one the first half is a family comedy/Drama the other is Action/sci-fi.It's very 80s but I think that's what make this film charming,it has a great nostalgia value to it (Well for people in their 20's at least). Barett Oliver(DARYL) was very talented and most of all he was natural. I love this film,it's one of the greatest kids film of the 80s for me,I'll place it between "the Goonies" and "Flight of the navigator". I'll give it a 8 out of 10.
I Am David (2003)
Great film.....but the end.
Well I loved the movie,I taught it was touching, the acting was great, The music was apropriate.Ben Tibber was good but I think it was because he was well cast more than his acting,I have watched him in "A Christmas Carol" and in various interview and he seems to be like David in real life, the same expression and all,his perfect for the part of David.Jim caviezel was good but wasn't much in the film,he was David mentor and you see him in a couple of flashback, they put him on the poster for the film because they needed a bit of star power to bring people in I think.Joan Plowright was great but I don't feel we knew everything about her character at the end of the film. And that brings me to what I didn't like about the film,it feels unfinished, for an hour and a half you follow David journey hoping for a big beautiful, touching ending what you get is.....A MUSIC VIDEO.It's like the director spent too much time on the rest of the film that he had to give us a quick ending.I'm sorry but that did spoil the movie for me,the end was the most important part of the story and it was rushed,it was done in such a way that it wasn't moving at all,the modern song was too distracting,it just didn't go with the rest of the film.Such a shame if it wasn't for the ending I'm sure I would have given this film a 9 out of 10. Well, good film wasted by a rushed ending. 6 out of 10
Dutch (1991)
A great film that never gets old
I have watched this film so many time and I'm so happy that it finally came out on DVD(I actually never taught it would but thanks to "Anchor bay entertainment" it did) The trailer of the movie describe really well what the movie is about "The story of a boy who lost the child in himself and the man that helps him find it". It's my favorite movie written by John Huges and I'm a big John Huges fan. Ethan Randall/Embry plays his part really well,he was perfect for the role of Doyle,he made the transition between the angry rude Doyle of the beginning of the film to the normal 12 year old kid you see at the end looks very natural and his chemistry with Ed Oneil is fantastic.
Ed Oneil one of the most underrated actor in America just because of his Al Bundy persona.I Love Ed,I grew up watching Married with...and I have seen most of his other project, including the new yet short lived "Dragnet" TV show. That guy got style and he's ten times more talented than some of the guys you see on the big screen these days,I'm looking forward to his next project.Dutch was in my opinion his best role so far.
Well this film his a classic in my book and it has a great message to it. I'll give it a 9 out of 10.
