Safer at Home (2021)
/facepalm
What a moronic, inane, terrible plot, and the acting? Cringeamous Maximus. So bad. Just bad.... 90 minutes of absolute dreck. Don't bother. Unless you like stupidity and moral turpitude.
Space Station 76 (2014)
Wish I could give it zero stars
Nope. Not funny. Not clever. Just boring, inane, painful, and not at all funny. This story is terrible, awkward, and very disappointing. I am surprised at the positive reviews. I love humor that is black as pitch, dry as a bone, Brit humor, this is absolutely not that. It's worthy of an Alan Smithee credit. Glad I turned it off halfway through. It made it only 45 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Saved myself another 45 minutes of torture. Woohoo... :-I
Breeders (2020)
Oh. Em. Gee. This show is hysterical.
First off, I LOVE Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard. I knew Daisy was hilarious from "Man Stroke Woman". I had no idea that Martin was such a comedic genius. Yes, I am a parent. I have a teenage son. And, I absolutely adore my child. I would not survive if anything (implied "bad") happened to him. That said, I have always maintained that it's a good thing that babies are so adorable, because they would not survive the first couple of years of child rearing. And, yes, I am kidding when I say that, but, like this show, there is an element of truth to the dark humor. Parents love their children. That does not mean that parenting is happy or easy, it's not. It's the hardest thing I've ever done. But, I wouldn't have it any other way. I laugh each and every day about something that pops out of my child's mouth. And, yes, there are some days when I have to scream into a pillow. The first episode had me giggling. Like a crazy person. It was awesome. I can't wait to see how this develops. If you like Andrea Savage's show, "I'm Sorry", you will enjoy this one. If not, this may not be your cuppa, move along. But, if you enjoy the dark side of parenting, then this show deserves a watch. Enjoy.
The Remains (2016)
Godawful!
I really liked the actor from "True Blood". Not anymore. Between the truly awful script, and the dreadful acting, I am no longer a fan. The dialogue is terrible. The story is boring, and not at all engaging. The lighting is very dark, even in the "non" "scary" scenes. I am using quotes, because the scary scenes are most decidedly not scary. Ugh. That's an hour and a half I'm never getting back.
This Is Us: Songbird Road: Part One (2019)
Such an incredible TV show!
I started watching this on the recommendation of a friend. She raved about the show. I started watching, and was instantly hooked. The cast is amazing! The storylines are by turn, funny, emotional, sad, and deeply satisfying. I am thoroughly engaged with each and every episode. Be prepared to shed some tears, because there are some gut and heart wrenching moments. I love the story of Jack and Rebecca, and how it unfolds over the course of the show. The characters are very real, and the love stories are very much on target. Not everyone is perfect, which is why it is so satisfying. Characters fall down, then get themselves back up. All in all, very much worth watching. I can't wait for the next episodes to air.
Chance (2016)
Fantastic!
This was an incredible show. I'm sad there are only two seasons. It is so compelling, my husband and I have been binge watching it. The concept is very well executed. The cast is incredible! Ethan Suplee and Hugh Laurie give absolutely mesmerizing performances. The camera work is spot on. The shots and lighting are gorgeous. Every shot is well crafted, and the way that light is used to help enhance the story being told is just stunning.
The Good Doctor (2017)
Hated this one
I could not even make it past the first twenty minutes of this one. The "ethical" struggle of the surgeons in this schlocky drama was just not at all realistic. It plays to someone's idea of how people behave in the OR, but, it was more of a paranoid idea of what would happen, given that situation. Is it within the realm of possibility that this "could" happen? Sure. It could happen. However, in today's healthcare scenarios, there are many, many checks and balances to ensure that it doesn't. Yes, mistakes can happen. Doctors are human. That's why there is a team of people working together to make sure that it does not. I know, I know, that does not make for exciting television, but, please, at least "try" for some realism.
New Amsterdam (2018)
Fantastic show!
I'm a HUGE Tyler Labine fan, and waited impatiently for the show to air. The wait paid off. The show is amazing! The cast is wonderful, the writing is great, and the sets and details are really well done. I love that this portrays healthcare professionals in a more realistic (although some with heavily rose tinted glasses) manner. It is far and away better than the majority of hospital/medical dramas out there. It has heart, and a brain, and does a great job of laying out how crazy the medical profession can be for the people in the trenches. The struggle of balancing caregiving and having a life outside of work is nicely done. Well worth a watch, and I can't wait for the rest of this season. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.
A Ghost Story (2017)
The most godawful boring movie!
I love movies. I love all kinds is movies, esoteric, horror, indies. I love them all. So when I say that this movie was boring, I am not doing boring justice. It is excruciating. It was as exciting as watching paint dry. I get loss, i have gone through deep grief, but, this portrayal of a grieving wife and her spectre spouse was truly awful. Ten flipping minutes of watching her eat PIE!!! I seriously wanted to jab a pencil in my eye. It was beyond reasonable expectations for a movie to be both this pretentious and this annoying. Oh the horror... do yourself a favor, if you want to watch an art film, skip this one. It is mind numbingly bad. Go and paint a wall, and then sit in front of said wall and watch the paint dry. You will be better off.
