The War of the Worlds (2019)
Bad acting
I like WOTW and was looking forward to this because I am an Eleanor Tomlinson fan from Poldark.
The acting is un-natural and almost like they are reading from a script while acting. Take episode 2, George is talking to a soldier and says "We have to find the baby" then there's a huge pause before anyone moves. This happens throughout, like the next person to speak doesnt know their line.
There's no chemistry between the characters.
The writers could have given Eleanor a different look to Demelza in Poldark! She's like a carbon copy.
Taking Earth (2017)
Just awful
CONTAINS SMALL SPOILER Hubby brought the DVD because the cover looked good with an alien/robot thing advancing towards you on the picture and quotes saying "Doesnt skimp out on the effects" "A wild ride that everyone will enjoy" "Complex visual effects". What a load of smeg!
The acting was just awful. It's like the actors hadnt learnt their script and they were reading it as they were acting. Very un- natural. I'm not just talking a few actors but ALL.
The "special effects" were so CGI they were laughable. Not realistic at all.
They make-up was terrible. The baddies (aliens) had black panda eyes to distinguish them from being human.
We watched about 20 minutes hoping it would get better. Don't WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS FILM.
A Street Cat Named Bob (2016)
Fantastic hopeful film
I have read the books and was looking forward to the film. I wasn't disappointed. The film is very true to the books and shows James's dire situation with care and no punches pulled. It doesn't skirt around James's turbulent life of drugs but shows it in a very humane way.
I loved the camera work, we get to see life from Bobs point of view on many occasions. This film gives hope to many people and shows that the love of an animal can pull a person out of the brink of despair.
A plus for me is there are no F words which I feel ruin a film.
Luke did a brilliant job of portraying James. And of course Bob is just a star! it was nice to see James make a small guest appearance himself. I can't wait to add it to my DVD collection!
A Date to Die For (2015)
Made for TV
This is a typical made for TV movie. Bad acting. The children's acting is terrible. Bad lift music throughout. I don't understand the tag line of "A guy goes on a date that he has been dying to go to for years" it doesn't describe anything to do with the films content at all. It could have been a good film but for the acting. The story line was okay but so obvious. I only kept watching to see what happened at the end. That's the only reason I give it a 3/10. I guessed the ending anyway and was right. I got bored about an hour into the hour and 25 minutes film, so fast forwarded the film to the end. The end, although tying up the loose ends, was a disappointment (but what can you expect from a made for TV?) I would not recommend.
