The Honkers (1972)
The Honkers - One of the Best Westerns Made
This is one of those movies that was never publicized and therefore was missed when it originally played in the theaters.
I came across it while switching TV channels and was immediately engrossed in this story of an aging rodeo bum whose recklessness and lack of responsibility hurt everyone around him. I've often wanted to see the movie again but couldn't even remember its name, and have never seen it in the rental stores.
James Coburn and Slim Pickens were excellent in their roles, and the rodeo footage was first rate. While being an action movie and having a western setting and theme it could be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their taste in films.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
An Excellent and Faithful Adaptation of the Book
This is a must-see movie for anyone who likes mysteries, especially those involving thought provoking religious themes. While the book itself is a work of fiction, the story contains enough real elements to make the whole idea plausible.
Ron Howard did a terrific job in bringing the very complex plot to the screen, and the actors' performances only add to the enjoyment of this fast-paced movie. The time just flew by. Reading the book before seeing the movie is highly recommended, but not a necessity since things are clarified as the story progresses. Every actor was very well chosen, and the locations were all exactly as in the book. Unlike so many other movies that do not live up to the book, the Da Vinci Code meets or exceeds expectations.
