Going into this movie I was expecting the story to lead somewhere totally different, it kept me guessing and guessing wrong most of the time, which is refreshing especially when the conclusion leads to a happy - but realistic ending.

Average at best movie, suited for casuals of the genre.
Negatives: Super predictable and cliché plot twists, jump scares and redemption arc.
Positives: Likeable main character, decent effects, good story idea.
If you want to see this idea for a story done well as a horror fan watch the mini series Midnight Mass.

No need to get too long with it, the movie is just bad.
A horribly pretentious story that is full of holes and just doesn't work, pair that up with terrible acting from good actors, just a disappointing mess.
Just give it a miss.

I am simply writing this review because after the negative ones I saw when deciding if I should watch it I was put off it but eventually gave it a chance because of what a classic the first one was.
I am glad I gave it a shot but listen, yes this movie is bad, I'm not going to get into a 4 page review as one would but I'm just going to say don't compare it to the first. This movie has very cheesy dialogue, especially the attempted comedic relief which is the actual bit that makes you feel nervous and not the on screen drama ensuing. It also uses every cliché in the genre, it was quite fascinating to see them not miss a single one.
As I was saying though, this movie is indeed bad but not as low as some people rate is simply because they went in with too much expectation. In my personal opinion an IMDb rating of 5 is at the level of "not great but not terrible either".
If you still like alien invasion movies, space themed discovery and just GFX marvels that cost more than the actors combined go ahead and give it a go, if you want a compelling story with strong characters this will just make you mad.
