A Perfect Murder (1998)
Underrated because it's a remake
I'm gonna give it a 9, to fix a bit the bad IMDb score. I think this movie is underrated - in my opinion mainly because it's a remake of a Hitchcock classic. People think that "No one should mess with Hitchcock, because they are going to just fail compared to him". This may be true, but I think this movie is underrated.
For starters, it does not have the same plot - not even close. There are many surprises for people who have seen the original Hitch movie. In fact, they are essentially a different movie, the main plot line is very different. Only the theme is similar. It has also very good acting by three of the main actors, plus lot of suspense. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. This comes from a person who has seen the original Hitchcock movie dozen of times.
People shouldn't rate movies badly, because they are remakes (or sequels). If they bring something new to the table, they are justified. You don't have to reinvent the wheel every time, composers and musicians take influences from old music all the time, then they add SOMETHING new, but something in hit songs is always familiar and done before. Having influences is not necessarily a bad thing.
Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
Very stupid and disappointing ending
It starts promisingly. It continues promisingly. The mystery grows. You try to figure out all of the different possibilities - how on earth can this man kill people, while he is all the time lockep up in a prison cell? Does he have a helper? Or many helpers? Who is/are the helper(s)?
When they finally give you the answer, it's so damn stupid that you just feel like your intelligence has been insulted. You feel like you've been ripped off. You feel like "Didn't they come up with anything better than that? Really?"
That ruined the movie 100% for me, because the whole duration of the movie is about rising questions - and the final answers are super dumb.
I was left really unsatisfied. It had good production values and actors, but the ending is just total crap. Avoid.
Take Me Home Tonight (2011)
A great feel-good movie!
First of all, I have to say that I RARELY like movies that score under 7.0 in IMDb.com. Mostly my favorite movies are in the Top 250 list and include many critically acclaimed classics.
This was not clearly one of those. Still, I liked this movie very much. I have seen it like six times. Somehow it works for me.
It's not a 80's nostalgia thing, because I was quite young in the 80's. I liked the soundtrack, but only one of my favorite songs in it. (Kickstart My Heart) But somehow I liked the chemistry between the leading couple and every scene where they are together, works. Their characters are both very likable.
Of course the scene with grown ups playing Truth or Dare was a bit cheesy, but didn't bother me. Also it may not be very believable, since if a guy would lie so much to a girl as Matt did, she would not most likely ever speak to him again. It kind of was a far stretch. But this movie has a lot of good comedic moments and romantic moments too.
Didn't like the parts with Dan Folger that much, with some exceptions. He did OK, but his scenes were a bit off with the general mood of the movie. Anna Faris did much better as Matt's sister.
