Conspiracy theory heaven
8 March 2023
Three episodes, three feasible conspiracy theories with all the underlying evidence exposed ... the third one is the best and least believable ... or is it?

This docudrama takes you through a timeline from the first instance MH370 being missed to the eventual dropping of the search in the South Indian Ocean.

There are heartbreaking interviews with family member of the missing plus team members of the search teams. All of which are searching for an answer to the disappearance of loved ones. Sometimes these are angry but all agree that they're not being told the truth.

But is the truth out there?

Religion = Control
2 February 2023
If you were brought up in a cult Christian religion then you'll have an "in" to what's going on. I don't think it's based on any one cult but is a very clever mix of several that I'm aware of and grew up in. E.g. The cult I was associated with did discourage going to college and encouraged full time door to door ministry.

This series though adds humour to the situation and although the elder arrangement appears made up. Heck it cuts close to home especially the controls exerted and gossiping by elders wives.

My wife and I crack up with the dating ritual and ducking down to avoid being seen unshaperoned. That is true to life LOL.

Screenplay lacking
30 August 2021
This film had everything except a well coordinated script ... which is a shame really because their are top rate actors and an interesting story to be used and told ... AND as usual darkness is used to hid stuff ... deserves a remake in maybe 10 years.

All quiet on the eastern front
15 December 2020
It's hard not to draw similarities between this film and All Quiet on the Western Front ... Its clearly anti-war and anti-Soviet/communist ... The fact that's it's based on real life experiences as mentioned in the end credits lifts this film above the ordinary war film ... This is a great film if you enjoy gritty realistic war films and in some ways it reminds me of Cross of Iron in that respect ... As of Dec 2020 it's on Sky Cinema so if you get a chance watch it ... 10/10 from me

Underrated film
21 November 2020
If ever there was an underrated film that deserves a modern remake then it's Where have all the people gone ... based on a similar theme to Night of the Comet, which is a brilliant film of this genre ... It's now on Amazon Prime if you want to catch it ... once you get past the poor quality typical 70's film you'll love it ... definitely a solid 9/10

It's not Tora Tora Tora
19 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILER ALERT*** Tora Tora Tora covered the lead up to the destruction of Pearl Harbour from both points of view. The original Midway in a similar way did the same for Battle of Midway. Pearl Harbour on the other hand was A love story told over a series of events. Namely, Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbour and The Doolittle Raid.

This modern take on Midway slots easily into this pantheon as it covers From both sides Pearl Harbour, The Doolittle Raid and Midway. Giving more of a build up to Midway. The film most definitely adds to what is now know about the intelligence, build up and tactics used in the battle. What's more, the screenplay, special effects and acting are excellent. Hence my score of a solid 8. Some over acting was expected and given as usual from Denis and Woody, but there you go ...

Not the worst Nick Cage film
16 September 2015
I have just watched this movie with my wife at home. It's a three bottles of wine film as that is how much we had to drink in order to swallow the plot. The Rapture ... What's that all about ? .... I'm glad you asked as this is the most entertaining part of the movie .... Sorry I meant IMDb Message Board. Everything that you ever needed to know about The Rapture can be found here, whether Christian or Atheist. It's all there.

Warning there are SPOILERS below

But I digress. The movie. I give this movie 7/10 due in large part to the acting, which while thin on the ground, made the best of the material provided. The first class cabin passengers were well chosen, but added nothing to the story except confusion. Nick Cage played his usual reluctant sleazy hero type. To be fair this is not the worst film that I've seen him in, but comes close. The biggest disappointment was the two story lines that eventually meet up with hugs and kisses amidst apocalyptic styled road works. The lead up to this is slow slow slow ... Some have said that this is a poor film, but I say this is a film deserving a second chance. On the whole I liked it ... Especially the light reading on the Message Board.

Typical X movie from 1969
8 April 2015
I am just watching this again, only for the second time, since I first saw it in 1970 as a fresh faced 18 year old. It's on Movies 4 Men, which says something I think. It's amazing how many famous face are here. Hywel Bennett is the star in this movie. He was big in the 60's. The story covers the antics of young men doing their national service out in Singapore, with all of the angst that young men have about their sexuality and life in general. The soldiers are not front line infantry but clerks. Warren Clerk and Christepher Timothy stand out. Disgruntled NCO's and snotty officers are part of the background. It's not a great film but it's well made and interesting. I give it 7/10 because of the memories of sitting in a cinema and being able to smoke a cigarette with normal people. Never see those days again ....

Cowboys, time travel & Klaus Kinski
30 December 2014
Cowboys, time travel and Klaus Kinski, it doesn't get much better than this. This film is one of those little gems that should be watched every Xmas along with The Great Escape and Its a Wonderful Life. Like all good films it starts with tragedy, then a small mystery. The back story is well presented and not complicated; like many I could mention. Also, the story doesn't jump back and too; as is all too common these days. Happy endings don't come any happier, that's all I'm going to say, but is not predictable. Klaus Kinski is a joy to watch with his rolling eyes and tough talking and big cowboy coat. The time traveling is cool and does not involve a Tardis; another bonus.

It's a journey with adventure and romance
28 December 2014
John Carter is a brilliant film with first rate CGI, action and storyline. I don't understand the low IMDb rating because it has everything with the possible exception of a famous named leading actor. What I like most is the unpredictability of the action. Generally speaking I can second guess the theme, storyline and ending of most films. In this case I could not. Even when viewing a second and third time the story was thrilling. One things for sure, I did not see the end coming. A bonus for me were the supporting actors Ceiren Hinds and James Purefoy recreating Julius Ceaser and Mark Anthony ... Amazing ... Though a negative was the villain who is instantly forgettable ...

Zulu (1964)
10/10
Xmas regular
28 December 2014
Zulu is one of my all time favorite films. My dad took me to see it when it first came out in the '60's. It's a film I watch at least once a year, but this year I have watched it twice over the holiday due to the poor TV schedule. The interplay between the main characters is extraordinarily good. Jack Hawkins, who plays the vicar and Nigel Green are my favorites. But there are many scenes with other characters that lead up to the main event, the Zulu attack. This film is based on an actual historical event in Africa and it's as well to be aware of them. The great thing is that IMDb carries information concerning the back story for making the film and the actual historical characters. If you have not seen this film, it is heartily recommended.
