Living It Up (1954)
Copy of 1937 Carole Lombard film
She was Hazel Flagg and Charles Winnegar was Dr. Enoch Downer Fredric March played the reporter from New York, Wallace Cook. The acting is comparable with identical story lines. The Martin and Lewis version does not degrade or surpass the original. Very enjoyable to watch. The location was changed from Vermotn/New York to New Mexico/New York. Both towns can be described as not up to date, impoverished, and a bit backward. Dean Martin likes his alcohol as did Charles Winnegar. Jerry is far more ditsy than Carole. Janet and Fredric were on par as reporters. Often times the remake is not as good as the original. Very little difference in the 1937 and 1954 version of this movie technologically. Easy to compare them.
Lorenzo's Oil (1992)
Doctor's do NOT know everything
I have seen it many times. People with an affliction or near some one with an affliction know more about the disease and treatment than the doctor. It is a single topic and they are able to tackle the data on that one topic. A doctor know a little bit about a lot of medical topics. The doctor does their best to give you the best treatment possible. A good doctor will listen to you and answer your questions or direct you to where YOU can find the answer. This is the best approach to medical treatment. This family did their best under the circumstances and in the end taught the medical profession a few things which enhanced the medical communities knowledge. Great family film.
The Entity (1982)
A first look at parapsychology
While based on a supposedly true story, the plot was a bit shallow. The 'nude' scenes were expertly done. I am certain she was not truly nude or it would never have been allowed to air on television. Barbara gave the impression she was really being sexually assaulted. Good acting! What I felt was missing was the lack of study performed on the 'victim' by the parapsychology team. The attacks came out of nowhere while she is being sued for divorce ( triggering event? ). No brains scans of her while she is being attacked. The team 'proves' there is an entity, but fails to acknowledge the fact publicly. Victim and family move elsewhere and attacks stop. Why did the attacks stop? Why did the parapsychology team not follow up to see what conditions if any had changed? Barbara Hershy carried the movie and the role quite well. I recommend this movie to any psychology student.
