Zwartboek (2006)
I was SHOCKED at how good this was! I was riveted.
Could not sleep tonight so I saw this and thought, why not, its going to be poor acting with ridiculous battle scenes having carboard over jeeps to make them look like tanks. That idea was immediatly shot down in the first five minutes. Don't be afraid because of having to read captions, they did a great job with them, giving us older people time to actually read them instead of putting them up for about a second. The filming was superb, I mean it was SUPERB on all levels, didn't have a bunch of Hollywood computer gernerate rubbish, I felt like I was in 1945, Hollywood could learn from this movie and once again start producing REAL movies like this one. THIS MOVIE HAS A PLOT, and besides being a war movie it's also like a detective movie and has lots of twists and turns. Movies sometimes leave out info that is neccessary to understand whats happening, not this movie, its content allows the viewer to understand the plot in detail. The actors are PROFFESSIONAL and draws the viewer into their time and characters. The ending was a surprise, I can't go further than this except they answered the questions and revealed the authors intent. To think that this is connected to some true events makes one wonder what we would do if under such conditions. BTW, its NOT for children, I think the rating should have been elevated to Mature Audience (MA). Highly recommend this for adults.
Da hong zha (2018)
Id rather have a root canal without any novocaine than be made to watch this again.
Willis must have seen an easy $million to be made, he certainly didn't do anything physical except keep his plastic surgery lines from showing. EVERYTHING about this movie is pathetic, a mix between cheap animation that would be turned down for any Disney cartoon, not to mention the 3 stooges style humor. I'm seriously surprised that the Asian viewers didn't get upset with the slap stick mockery of thick lenses and goofy facial expressions that were used during the WW2, only thing missing was the buck teeth. There was zero humor, zero effort in the fake air scenes, mockery of what really happened during bombings, this movie is insulting and belittling of everyone who died IN ANY WAR! Come on, a full bombing of a city and those being killed on the ground partying and mocking their attackers? Despicable script. BTW, why ask if this contains spoilers, the movie HAD NO STORY to spoil.
Audacity (2015)
Haters of morality, absolutes and Bible verses will sadly condemn even if they don't watch it. Their loss.
This movie isn't about sodomites but ALL sin and those who commit it. The Gospel "Good News' is accurately portrayed and the biblical verses used are factual, but sadly there are those who detest having to follow rules, even those of God. Nowhere in this movie did they say only one particular sin separates us from God, on the contrary, the bible verses condemned ALL who love their personal sins more than the Lord. The problem lays with those who refuse to recognize their sin as actually being sin. When a person or group of people refuse to admit that a lifestyle they are living is sin then there is no hope, they themselves have declared themselves to be the enemy of the Lord. Jesus died for the opportunity of people to accept His sacrificial death to pay the punishment for their sins so they won't have too. Those who love their sins more than Christ is not worthy of Him, and to blatantly deny those sins which are called sin in the bible is spiritual suicide. It doesn't matter what particular sin it is, drunkenness, thievery, gluttony, laziness, they are all condemned by God, so the movie accurately conveyed the mercy and grace of God to allow us sinners to repent and turn to Christ. If not then the individual has declare Gods wrath upon themselves, they are he ones to slap away Gods hand of grace and forgiveness. Jesus said,: "Why do you call me Lord and don't do the things I command you?" He also said that many shall come before him claiming to be a follower of Him and he will tell them to depart from hell because they weren't really committed to Christ and his commandments. So it isn't God who hates but sinners hate God and His demands and commandments, at least be adult enough to admit we've done nothing for God but He died for us to escape such great damnation.
On the Beach (1959)
First time I've seen a movie that's better than the book.
At first I thought this movie was going to be an anti-war movie with over 2 hrs of propaganda, boy was I wrong! For those a little hard of hearing it may be difficult without closed captions to follow, since there is an Australian accent. First, study up on how the book differs from the movie and you will see that the movie would suffer if it followed the book. Because the movie blames no individual nation the opening viewing was shown in China, Mosco and other nations not friendly with the USA at the time. What I found unique is how I became part of all the characters. I'm still somewhat shocked by watching this film, it grips your humanity like no other film I've ever watched. If you are a husband/wife/parent it will probably rip at your emotions and you will examine yourself and your relationships and start to wonder why you take your loved ones and neighbors for granted. I give this move a STRONG 10 and may buy the DVD, its that good.
12 to the Moon (1960)
MUCH better than watching the news!
The movie took me back to my youth, a space ship going to the moon! I had a great time looking at equipment used to make this and the ignorance the writers had concerning physics. I was so impressed with the plastic lawn chairs that swiveled along with those cheap aluminum frame lawn recliners which my parents actually had in our back yard, attached of course to the wall with two standard electrical conduit clamps, SO HIGH TECH LOL!! Seriously, its a fun movie to watch and they may have gotten some things more right than the fake moon landing NASA claims we did. Imagine how the movies we watch now will be laughed at 50 years from now :) Its kind of funny how the women were treated with respect as a 'weaker' sex unlike today. Also there were no tattoo's, no piercing, and NO SWEARING, very strange! How in the world did they make such a movie without using the Lords name and the F bomb shouted every minute!? Oh, I forgot, they were OUT OF THIS WORLD.
American Sniper (2014)
2 thumbs WAY WAY UP !!
Vets, at the end be proud and stand up and salute! Others stand up and cross your heart! Guess this tells what this movie is made up of!
Eastwood's FINEST MOVIE EVER !
The stupid rating system says I have to write more lines for this to post, so I'll say it again. All you need to know is at the end don't fight it, just do what you want to do and STAND UP AND SALUTE or cross your heart! Maybe it would be nice if our Commander in Chief would display such a tribute !
Unlike Joline's "Unbroken', this movie is detailed and accurate, I will go see it again.
Unbroken (2014)
Wait for the future remake, lacking and historically inaccurate by omissions. :( {Possible Spoiler and very critical }
This movie was pumped by Christians who hoped the movie would reflect Louis Zamperini difficult beginnings and wonderful character which developed due to others influences. Instead we get limited historical events and many which would elevate the film from a yawn to a WOW. Instead of showing such interesting facts like his meeting with Hitler due to his great achievements we watched mostly a psychotic and near insane commander of a prison camp torturing Mr. Zamperini for two hours, using the same form of torture over and over again. Personally the film was a waste of 2 hours of my life, Joline doesn't understand that a film must move on from its initial shock and not repeat it over and over in the hopes that it will create a deeper emotion from the audience. I felt like I was listening to a child telling me the same story of their fear for two hours and I wanted to say, "OK! I've heard it already, MOVE ON!" Wait for the remake if you live that long, maybe it will actually honor this brave and honorable man and give the credit to whom he believed in. THose who read the book will understand my frustrations over this film, its lacking and historically inaccurate by omissions.
Crazy in Alabama (1999)
First class acting with a script that stayed true to its course
This film has it all, the deep South's past arrogance from pride which includes all the typical hypocrisy which comes with racism; the truth on a double standard between the sexes in marriage and its judicial applications towards the two sexes. With all this the film never lost its purpose to entertain with humor, including the salt and vinegar of life which brings out the sweetness when you taste the finished results. Oh, and not to forget the teachings of Christ that we are to become as children if we are to enter into His Kingdom, which is wonderfully revealed in the character Peejo who would not restrain his convictions and remain silent, knowing whats right and not allowing his convictions to be influenced by the prostitution's of others and safety. I can't think of a single cast member that didn't shine in this film.
