Kong: Skull Island (2017)
This Movie is Okay
I encourage you to see this film and it's worth seeing on the big screen. However, if it's a coin toss between this and something you're certain to like, see the other movie.
The acting is good, the cinematography is good, the script is good, there's smashing and 'splosions and a little too much silliness for me. Or maybe it's acceptable humor, judge for yourself. I found it an entertaining-enough, see it once movie.
Sit through the credits.
The Tomb (2007)
Do Not Watch This Heap Of Garbage
This is another horrible film that uses the name H.P. Lovecraft to attract a certain audience, but has nothing whatsoever to do with that author's story of said name. (That's the extent of my spoiler, by the way.)
I think it's neat and all that we live in an age where anyone can sell their car for enough money to buy a decent quality digital camcorder and make a movie in their parent's basement or friend's warehouse - I just don't think everyone should do so.
I love the horror genre and it saddens me that puke like this continues to be what most people think of when they think of the genre.
To be fair, the actors seemed to be doing their best with the script, and most of the acting is actually decent. The special effects make-up was good, and I sometimes liked the use of the blackened doll face as the silent witness to the events of the "story".
Days of Darkness (2007)
Do Not Watch This Heap Of Garbage
I love the horror genre, and this pile of puke is a perfect example of why it is not taken seriously, which perpetuates the production of this type of junk.
This pile of filth is jangled, jumbled, non sequitur, has virtually no plot, appears to be almost entirely (badly) ad lib-ed, and was pristinely disappointing. If it was intended as a comedy, that may garner it a modicum of forgiveness, but it is still painfully unwatchable no matter what.
If this is exemplary of Lionsgate films' work, I will be sure to avoid their titles in the future, and I would admonish all to do so as well.
The Golden Child (1986)
This is an Excellent Film
I love this film. It is well written and acted and has good cinematography. The story blends action, humor, mysticism, and tenderness with great sets and beautiful location shots. See it, buy it, show it to your friends.
The acting is good and Murphy especially does a fine job portraying the reluctant/unlikely hero. I enjoyed all the characters and found them to be interesting and well developed with dynamic interactions.
I cared what happened to these people and, while the outcome was pretty predictable (the good guys win, the hero gets the astonishingly attractive girl and the holy child saves lives--who doesn't see that coming?), it still made me happy when everything worked out well in the end. Thank God this film's dignity was never ruined with a crappy sequel. Grab some popcorn, cuddle up on the couch, and watch this fun, happy and entertaining film.
