Songs in Shadow: The Making of Carly Simon's 'Film Noir' (1997)
A look behind some really great music
This behind the scenes look at the making of the CD Film Noir introduced me to a fantastic project. Here is music too good for radio and the very commercial music world. This music is truly art and the documentary showing the making of the CD is also a work of art. It gave me a greater appreciation for the music as well as the how and why it was all put together. If you enjoy what goes on behind the music you'll want to see this. I have most of it on tape somewhere and I only hope I can find it.
This is the kind of programming VH-1 or some music channel should be doing.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
The Trailer was far Better than the Movie
I looked forward to this movie coming out, I thought the trailer was a riot. Strangely they really didn't use any of those scenes in the movie or when they did the scenes were cut up and lost much of their impact. Having worked in radio and down the hall from a TV station I know about the egos and the TV stars. This was the perfect concept that just did not jell for me. I didn't find much to laugh at. The humor if you call it that was as childish and tacky as a leisure suit. Making one of the news team members an idiot was not funny to me. The fight scene with the other stations was just plain STUPID! The way women were treated in the newsroom could have been done better, the pranks were pitiful and not funny.
I bought it used at the video store and I can trade it back in and get half my money back which I will do ASAP. A real waste of time.
The best thing about the movie was the great '70's soundtrack.
Bruce Almighty was a movie with a similar theme, that movie thankfully got it right!
