Churuli (2021)
Please don't waste two hours of your life on this
Utterly lacking in story, direction and pacing. Neither fantasy nor sci-fi. Just plain boring crap. Wish I could give zero stars. What a terrible waste of time!
Catching Killers: Manhunter: Aileen Wuornos (2021)
True crime show 101: Dont name the killer in the title of the episode!
Why would you make a true crime episode and name the killer in the episode title? Ridiculous!!! What's the point? Zero suspense!! Spoiled the entire episode for me. Get the basics right guys.
Elementary: T-Bone and the Iceman (2015)
Two plot holes weakened the episode.
Those who watched the episode closely will agree that the following two unanswered questions weakened the story substantially.
1. After having killed Sullivan, Ford wore Sullivan's smaller shoes and pretended to discover the body. But, where did he hide his original pair of shoes? He couldn't have kept it among Sullivan's as the police would have checked Sullivan's wardrobe and found a perfect match to the prints left by the killer. Neither could Ford have disposed them so efficiently in such a short time (he feared the neighbours heard the quarrel and he couldn't go outside the house to dispose the shoes; also some neighbour may have already called the police). And obviously he couldn't have carried the shoes with him back to his house!
2. Secondly, it was mentioned that the original investigators in the Sullivan murder had Ford as their primary suspect. Surely at some point during the investigation, they would have tried to look at Ford's collection of shoes at his house or at least get a more precise measurement of his feet - since (a) the footprints were the undeniable physical evidence and (b) Ford was such an important person of interest, that the investigators would surely try and get evidence that linked him to the crime. It's unbelievable that the investigators would have believed his 'size 9' story and neither noticed his funny way of walking when he came into the station nor his mismatching shoes when compared to his overall sense of dressing.
I really feel these two issues robbed the script of it's robustness. I'll give it a 3/10 only.
Better Call Saul: Uno (2015)
Slow Start...But Set Up Perfectly!
Most of us, like me, had great expectations as we sat down to watch this much awaited Pilot. And I was not disappointed!
The opening few minutes were a reminder of Vince Gilligan's much loved Breaking Bad style of narration and was enough to draw me into the tale of Saul Goodman. The opening titles and music were not very impressive but not bad either.
A large part of the episode is pretty hilarious and keeps you interested in the character of Saul. But, it's not only the comedy that keeps you hooked but also Saul's fate and its twists and turns. Also, with Vince Gilligan as the writer-director, you never know what will happen next. Bob Odenkirk is as good as he was in Breaking Bad and I am pretty sure he'll be able to do justice to the evolution of Saul Goodman as we move ahead in the series.
What I loved: Vince Gilligan's writing & direction, Saul's destiny and tribulations and most importantly, the return of the ''unpredictability that we associated with the plot of Breaking Bad'' which made it so delicious.
What I didn't like a lot: The opening theme music (after Breaking Bad's epic title music, I expected its spin off to have an equally addictive tune), the plot becomes a bit slow in the middle (but picks up at the end).
Overall, as a 'starter' or 'appetizer' this episode was perfect. I get a feeling the main course is going to be absolutely fabulous.
8/10.
Homeland (2011)
Breathtaking, edge-of-the-seat, addictive.
If you haven't watched Homeland yet, its hard for you to IMAGINE what the show can offer with a P.O.W., a CIA officer & the theme of national security. When I first read an intro for the show, I didn't know how long the show will be able to keep my interest for it, alive. But now, addiction has replaced interest!
You will LOVE the show if you like: high octane thrillers, 'gosh, what will happen next?' dramas, potent story-telling & slow, yet intense suspense and similar themes. It's an addicting cocktail of these & much more.
If you judge shows by awards...it has won 5 Golden Globes & numerous Emmys in just two seasons!
Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) is absolutely brilliant as the POW and so is Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) as a CIA case officer. The main theme remains Carrie's suspicion about Brody - whether he 'turned' when in captivity and consequently does he pose a threat to national security. But, don't be fooled by the simplistic description...as different layers of the storyline are revealed & characters take shape, the story diversifies & yet intensifies without losing the original plot or track. As I said above, it's difficult to guess how such a straight-forward looking theme can be supplied with such potency (by the Emmy-winning brilliant writing) that it continues to appeal & intrigue almost endlessly. Aptly-timed & brilliantly directed revelations, intriguing background stories & beautifully written personal lives of characters - all assist the central theme & end up making a breathtaking package. The ensemble of supporting actors (especially Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson) are really good too.
This is one show you should watch irrespective of which genre of television you prefer/like. Why? Simply because its quite different & unconventional in its treatment of subjects, storyline & characters.
If you've watched all seasons already, you've done the right thing. If you left the series mid-way, start again - you don't know what the next episode holds. And if you still haven't started watching the show, START TODAY!
9/10 !
