1899 (2022)
I have no idea when I just watched.
I thoroughly enjoyed this until the last episode. I don't know who's the good guy or who is the bad guy. I understand there's not a season two which is unfortunate because I don't feel that we understand why the father doesn't save his son.. So many questions in a very unsatisfactory ending. It reminded me of Game of Thrones, The series wasn't yet written by Martin, so they tried to wrap up all the loose ends after such an investment in time, only to be tricked at the end. I rated this as eight out of 10 because I think that all of the previous episodes were outstanding. However, because the 8th episode had no closure, I took off 2 stars. My emoji, which was not allowed to be included in this review, would be disappointed.
Voskresenskiy (2021)
I genuinely enjoyed this series and hope that there will be subsequent episodes.
As someone who has studied history, this was a very interesting show to watch. I was actually a bit surprised by the talent of the actors and the writers, Director, and costuming I've not seen much Russian television, but if they are half as good as this program, they will probably be good as well.
Any word on when this might resume again?
The professor was played by someone who, coincidentally, looks like Vladimir Lennon to me. They could certainly use him in a film on the Russian revolution. I loved seeing all the cultural Easter, eggs, eggs, eggs, eggs about Russian society, and how much more prosperous in Russians seemed to be. This was obviously a closed off socials strata for most of the only recently released surfs.
More, please!
007: Road to a Million (2023)
Very entertaining
SPOILERS:
I really enjoyed this and hated to see it end. I hope there are more series to come. They spared no expense on the locations, travel, cinematography. I would have missed the Mars question, but the rest I did well on. Physically there was NO way I could have done it. The snakes, the crocodiles, YIKES. They were all great sports, especially the Muslim woman; who swore like a sailor. 😂
Part of the enjoyment was the character development, especially with those that lasted the longest. It would be interesting to know some of the logistic about where they slept, ate, how they traveled between countries and many weeks/months it took. I will have to see if I can find some information about those things. They had to get hungry. You have to have an adventurers' spirit.
Cox was a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I wanted to throttle him.
Tammy (2014)
I kept waiting for Thelma and Louise to drive the Cadillac off a cliff in the Grand Canyon.
Sorry, that was another movie with Susan Sarandon and a multi generational, lawbreaking, unfulfilled duo on the run. Any other comparison to that film in there. Not even Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates could draw on the merits of Thelma and Louise. With Melissa McCarthy starring you know what you're going to get. If you can make peace with both women, one uneducated, obese, and crass and the other a comb-less, diabetic and drunk both getting serious male attention from seemingly healthy men that I would consider too healthy, clean and nice-looking to ever be drawn to either character (played McCarthy and Sarandon), then you'll be fine with everything else that goes on in this movie. It was on Netflix so it didn't cost me anything to watch and that appears to be how McCarthy wrote it. The script shows no real investment of time or talent; just goofing around and getting paid while drawing from seasoned actresses, Sarandon and Bates.
There are several sweet moments between grandmother and granddaughter, but each is so catastrophically flawed that there's no possibility of either living, productive and enriching lives. Unfortunately, McCarthy is often limited in scope in her films and only really shines in movies by skilled writers. Unfortunately today's movie audiences only views McCarthy as she presents herself in her films. She resorts to a stereotype of heavy women in romantic relationships that are doomed. I found myself wondering how she captured the husband she walks out on at the beginning. Is anyone surprised more by him cheating or by the fact that he existed at all?
And Then There Were None (2015)
Great period drama
It kept me guessing until the end, like all Agatha Christie films/books. The audience doesn't stand a chance because we don't have all the pieces of the puzzle.
One small quibble; if the electricity had gone out, how is it that the record(s) could be heard at stereo sound AND who owned that house?!
Bad Grandmas (2017)
Laughed and laughed
Is this Oscar material, nope, but I did enjoy the movie. It was corney but exactly what you would expect. I watched it on TV, not in the theaters and I found the plot was suspenseful and the little old ladies, especially Florence Henderson were delightful. Just go with it and accept the genre and you will find yourself laughing out loud.
