Mausoleum (1983)
Movie Cheese - Extra Gooey!
While saddled with a basically rotten script, MAUSOLEUM has a certain rank charm about it. The special effects are splatter-ific and the camerawork sophisticated (the film is visually impressive (for its time)) but the scenario is so laughable it can only be appreciated in "ironic" - mode. Woman grows up under demonic curse of the generations, becomes demonically posessed, is compelled to get nekkid frequently (yes!) and kill everyone in sight. It's a lovable bad film, in other words, perfect for your MTSK improvs during home viewing. Best redeeming feature: Bobbie Bresee's luscious, perfect Sexy-Blonde-Scream-Queen goodness. She could have spent the whole latter-half of the movie naked, in fact, and it would have improved both the movie's scenario and its watchability. In this imperfect world, we take what we can get, no?
Jake Squared (2013)
Bow. Wow.
What an excruciatingly awful movie. Painfully obvious and superficial Woody Allen imitation that not only never takes off but seems to revel in the most square and out-of-date aspects of the ol' Woodman's work: Ultra-sincerity, Oblivious Self-Absorption and Cornball, Throwback Would-be humor. Nothing in this film worked except Elias Koteas' heroic performance which almost succeeds in making director Howard Goldberg's suffering d-bag of a protagonist seem human. Almost.
