Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Batman V Superman - Dawn of Justice
OK, from where shall I begin this review? Hmmm... it's a bit difficult to me because I'm a huge fan of superhero movies etc. All I can say is that I had a few scruples when I first heard about the casting choice of Batman. I always thought that Ben Affleck was a decent actor but I wasn't so sure if he could actually pull it through. And all I can say is that he did a very good job fleshing out the Bruce Wayne/Batman persona.
So, by making that point clear let's talk about the movie. Dawn of Justice... well it was a decent movie but it wasn't that good. It had its strong and well written moments but it had also its flaws. I understand that it was a movie that it sets up the DCEU but they could have found another way to do it. Dawn of Justice is like 3 to 5 movies put together in a 2.30 big mash up. I believe that they wanted to reach the point where MCU is. But they didn't think that Marvel, before doing an Avengers film or The Civil War film, had already established its characters with 5 to 7 movies. But OK I'm not here to talk about Marvel. I'm just doing this comparison to point the idea of making small & steady steps and not just big and unsure jumps. I would preferred if they had established their characters with more movies than one movie which is a set up to an enormous idea.
With that been said let's move to the things I liked most about this movie. Well I believe that they established a more brutal and dark Batman. I think that it's the best portrayal of this character until now and I truly hope that critics and fans will give him a chance to prove himself more. Ben Affleck did a fantastic job with the character. He embraced the role and made him his. With only one exception... they trampled the "no killing rule". It fitted in the movie and the way that Batman's character grows in this universe. But I believe that it wasn't needed. If Batman kills then maybe he's not different from the Joker or any other from his rogue gallery.
If you liked Man of Steel then you won't have problem with Henry's Superman. And the rest of the cast was a big deal. I liked a lot Jeremy Irons' Alfred, Amy Adams' Lois Lane and of course Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. She's awesome and that briefly appearance of her at the big battle was great. They made me want to see her solo film right now. Jesse' Lex was interesting but I couldn't connect with the villain. He gave everything to make Lex a crazy, megalomaniac mastermind but in the end it was a bit hollow. A kid with clearly daddy issues.
OK now the big fight. Batman v Superman. It was good. I liked how Bruce was prepared for the fight all of his gadgets and of course his skills... ohhh he's so brutal, he's too strong. But it ended quickly. I just wanted to see more of it. And then here comes Doomsday. The big reveal from the 2nd trailer that drove people crazy and mad about this movie and the way WB do their promotion. If there's another thing that I didn't like that much about this movie.. it's the extreme use of CGI. In a way it was frustrating to see. For me it's not that big deal for me but it was a bit tedious at some times.
All and all I believe that BvS was good movie. As I said above it had its moments and of course its flaws. But I can't ignore that they're just setting things up for something bigger... something better. And i truly hope they can achieve it. The trinity was great and they managed to establish at least these new characters and they gave us some sneak peeks about the Flash, Aquaman & Cyborg. For me it's an 8 out of 10 for all the reasons above.
The Walking Dead: TS-19 (2010)
Ts-19
Season 1 Episode 6 - Ts-19
OK last week's episode 5 of The Walking Dead, which is called "Wildfire", wasn't a weak episode. It was a strong one with great performances from most of the cast members. It was a slower episode with a little bit of everything. It had some action, great character development and drama. But i truly believe that "Wildfire" was a path that led to an explosive season 1 finale, which is called "Ts-19".
"Ts-19" starts immediately from where we left last week. Rick's group is welcomed to enter and taste the luxury of CDC but peace won't remain for a long time. After Dr. Edwin Jenner took a blood sample from everyone they organized a dinner. Rick and the others slowly realize that the CDC if full of food and other supplies so they start to grow with the idea of staying here for a while. The group is broken from what happened to the camp the other day so most of them are trying to find their own space. After the meal, when everyone is asleep, conflict starts between Shane and Lori. Shane tried to seduce and rape her. But she fought back and made him stop. The next morning Edwin tries to update Rick's group about the plague. He tells them that he tried to find a cure and a way to stop what's happening but he ended up losing the last sample. Test Subject - 19 was his wife, whose last wish was to examine her reanimated corpse so her husband could find a cure. He admits that the last sample was lost during an accident in his lab. Jenner also informs the group that CDC is on a countdown of self-destruct. Tensions soon arise within the group. Shane blames Rick and Jenner for condemning the lives of the others. Jenner tells secretly something to Rick and then he lets them escape from the room they were trapped but he suggests them to hurry because the countdown ends. Andrea and Jacqui decide to stay with Jenner. Dale convinces Andrea not to give up on life. She decides to follow him and they are trying to find a way out of the CDC. Nearly before the explosion Carol gives to Rick a frag-grenade that he previously scavenged from the walker in the tank. They reach their cars and then the CDC explodes.
"TS-19" was another stellar episode of the Walking Dead. It was a great episode but it didn't give the taste of a finale. Sure the Atlanta story ark seems that reached the deadline but I believe they could have found other ways to end such a great season. All and all this episode was awesome. It had action, character development and it pushed the story forward. Because now we know that Rick's group is heading out of Atlanta. I'm so curious what other threats Rick will come against and how he will co-exist with Shane. For me is a 9 out of 10.
The Walking Dead: Wildfire (2010)
Wildfire
Season 1: Episode 5 "Wildfire"
After a spectacular episode, "Vatos", The Walking Dead reached a high point in the series so far and promises to bring more disaster, despair and of course death. After episode 4 the writers and show-runner made clear to us that no one in this show is ever safe. Everything could happen at any moment. With this said i would like to continue to the next installment of the season 1 episode 5,which is called "Wildfire".
In this episode we see the aftermath of what happened in the camp.Rick tries to contact with Morgan via a pair of walkie-talkie and let him know about what happened. He warns him about the city and all the dangers that reign in Atlanta. It seems that some members of the group have lost their faith in trying to survive in this hell that they've been through and some others are trying to move on from that tragedy. Andrea is suffering off the loss of her little sister Amy, who was bitten and died because she bled out.Carol seems to moving on with her life as her abusive husband,Ed, was eaten alive and died.We can clearly see her anger on the reanimated corpse of Ed when she stomps it with a tool until his brains blew off his head.Andrea is still struggling to let her little sister go.She stays with her until she comes back and when you realize she maybe will commit suicide, she kills reanimated sister. Dale helps her to to bury her. Rick and Shane went for a patrol in the woods, to check for any threats. They split to cover more ground and in a moment we see Shane targeting Rick with his shotgun. He's thinking to kill him off because of the problems that were brought from the moment he returned? We don't know for sure or maybe he thinks that he's a threat of what he built with Lori & Carl? After a while,he drops his gun and moves on and then he realizes that Dale was watching him. Back at the camp, Jacqui finds out that Jim was bitten and everyone are scared. Rick and Shane protect Jim from Daryl, whose about to kill him. The group decided to move on and leave the camp.Morales and his family decided to leave from Atlanta and split from Rick's group. They take care Jim and lead themselves at the CDC in the center of Atlanta hoping to find some answers and of course to find some help for Jim. During the time they spent on the road, Jim's condition is getting worse and asks from the group to let him be. They let him rest on a tree near the road and they gave him a revolver so he can put himself out of his misery. The group is reducing by numbers. They left him alone so he can rest and they continue their way to the CDC.At the CDC we see Edwin Jenner, a scientist who tries to find a cure for the disease that's taking place over the U.S.A. During an experiment he lost his last sample of walker tissue. At night, the group reaches the CDC and herd of walkers starts to surround them. Rick is in front of the gate with the rest of the group and he's screaming for help at a camera that it's on.He refuses to go knowing that someone is inside and he doesn't let them in.Shane tells him that there's nothing here and pulls him so they can leave from this place. Jenner can be seen fighting with himself and tries to decide whether to let the group in or not.At the final moment Jenner opens the door and lets Rick's group to enter CDC.
"Wildfire" is a good episode of the Walking Dead, because now the series changes its course and direction. I believe that we will learn more about that scientist,Jenner and of course the virus that it's taking place in Atlanta. We've lost too many characters and the group's members dropping dramatically. One more episode for the season to end.Very interesting stuff happening and for me it's a 9 out of 10
The Walking Dead: Vatos (2010)
Vatos
Season 1: Episode 4 "Vatos"
Following a slowly paced episode,"Tell it to the Frogs",with lack of action but with strong moments and of course an interesting character development,The Walking Dead reaches one of its highest moments in Season 1 with this particular episode.
Rick's group was heading downtown to help Merle and return to the camp. They reached the rooftop only to realize that he cut off his own hand to escape. They decided to keep searching for him.In the meantime at the camp,Jim(Dale's mechanic) had a strange dream, showing himself digging some graves. They group at the camp decided to force him to stop because he was going to hurt himself or some other member with his acting.I liked how Jim accused Shane about his reaction against Carol's husband. I found very interesting all Jim's story arc because they let us know some things about his past.It was very emotional and of course very horrible to hear how he escaped from a herd of walkers. It was very intense,we learned that the walkers were feeding on his family so he could run away from them. In Atlanta,Rick's group chooses to continue searching for Daryl's brother but they needed to take the bag with the guns that Rick dropped a few episodes back.It was very interesting to see once again Glenn organizing everyone. From where to stand and wait,to where to go if he overran by walkers.During the execution of Glenn's plan things were gone crazy because some people showed up and kidnapped Glenn.Daryl manages to catch one member from the other group. They held him as hostage and they interrogated him to show them his group location.Reaching the location of the Mexican group Rick speaks with its leader and he asked them to give them the guns in exchange of Glenn.Rick decides to storm their hideout but in the end he learned that Vatos was a group who protects they abandoned elderly people during the Apocalypse.Rick gives them some of the guns and the group returns to the main avenue to head back to their camp. They discovered that the van was gone so they believed that Merle was going back to storm their camp and take revenge. Meanwhile,at the camp they were having a feast with the fish that Andrea and Amy caught. There was a very interesting monologue of Dale, speaking about the legacy in which people must pass to another, from father to son.And when we thought that everything was perfect and quietly,in a blink of an eye there was a walker attack with the first victims Carol's husband and Andrea's sister, Amy.The things were gone crazy in lack of extra hands, firepower and ammunition. The group was weakened.Fortunately,Rick arrived at the very last moment and helped the others to clear the camp, but it was too late. I truly believe that this episode was the highest moment of the series until now.It was interesting, with strong, unforgettable moments. I can't believe how emotional a series can be.From a little sing of hope that show us in "Tell it to the Frogs",they demolished everything in the blink of an eye.It had character development and it was action packed. It pushed moreover the story and it let us wondering what they group will decide to do after the overrun. For me it's a 10 out of 10 and i'm very pleased with the result and all the things they've done with the series thus far.
The Walking Dead: Tell It to the Frogs (2010)
Tell it to the Frogs
Season 1: Episode 3 "Tell It To The Frogs"
The Walking Dead continues with a strong episode as we see a reunion between Rick with his family and his best friend. For Shane some things took a dramatic turn because he has to step away from Lori and Carl. In the beginning,we see Merle abandoned and handcuffed on the roof of the department store pleading for help to God.Then he realizes that he never needed Him by his side so he decided to take a stand and fight on his own.The remaining Atlanta group reaches the camp and Rick gets a chance to reunite his family again, it was a very strong and joyful moment in the episode. At night, the group talks about the abandoned Merle and how they will settle the situation with Daryl(Merle's little brother) when he comes back from the hunt. In the morning, the group members fight with walker near the camp and after that they meet with Daryl letting him the things that happened in the city.Rick insists to get back and help him so him,Daryl,Glenn and T-dog are heading to Atlanta. Meanwhile,in the lake Shane teaches Carl how to catch frogs. Then Lori approaches and accuses Shane for telling her that her husband is dead. She insists to Shane to step away from her and Carl.Just beyond from the point where Lori and Shane were quarreled Andrea,Amy,Jaqui and Carol were cleaning some clothes and then appeared Carol's abusive husband only to proclaim some problems. From all the things that were said between him and Lori,Shane in rage, pulls Ed to the ground and starts to punch him in the face for his abusive ways to his wife and daughter. At last,Rick's group reaches Atlanta went through the department store straight to the roof to find Merle. As they fight their way to the roof they only find Merle's hand. From the third episode was apparent lack of action. But it was focused on the character development and relations between some of the members. For me it's an 8 out of 10 because there were very strong moments of happiness and of course despair. The episode left us wondering about Merle's fate and of course how Rick and Shane will co-exist,because problems will appear very soon between them.
The Walking Dead: Guts (2010)
Guts
Before a few days i wrote my first review about the pilot of The Walking Day Season 1 "Days Gone Bye", and i was very excited because it was a very strong beginning. Now let's talk about the second one...
Season 1 Episode 2: Guts
OK,it was intense....it was very intense. The first episode introduced us to the all the crazy stuff we were about to see.We met our lead character Rick Grimes who was injured during a gunfight and then awakens in an abandoned hospital only to realize that he has to survive in a post- apocalyptic world. We met Morgan and his son and we learn some things about his past and at the end they left us wondering how Rick will overcome the situation in Atlanta with the walkers around the tank. In the second episode,we get a chance to meet a new group of characters.Rick and the group try to fight their way out of the Atlanta city.Glenn's group which consists of Morales,Jaqui,Merle,Andrea and T-Dog where in Atlanta scavenging for supplies but they were cut off by a herd of walkers. There were some conflicts between some members of the group,so Rick had to take a stand and make some decisions about their way out of Atlanta.I liked very much how Glenn organized everyone,he shows us how well knows the city and how helpful it would be to have him in the group for searching supplies and etc.Because the difficulty of the situation, they couldn't escape without draw the attention of the walkers. They decided to take a walker and camouflage themselves (Rick &Glenn) with its guts. All of a sudden,a rain ruins everything and they have to fight their way to the car.The remaining group awaits in the department store & Merle is handcuffed in the roof because for all the problems he caused. They manage to get to the car and made a plan to help the others escape,Glenn draws the attention of the walkers so Rick is free to approach the building. In the end,T-Dog manages to lose the key of the handcuffs so he locked up Merle on the roof as the others escape. As we can see the first episode was more about development, character development but the second episode was more action-packed that pushed the storyline forward.Because we know that Glenn's group is part of a bigger group where Laurie & Carl are with Shane. So,it will be very interesting to see Rick meets up with his family and old friend(who is screwing with his wife).
I'm very satisfied with the second Episode "Guts" because it was action- packed with very strong & unforgettable moments,it was an intense one.For me it's a 9 out of 10 and i hope they'll keep making episodes like this.
The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye (2010)
The Days Gone Bye
To begin with,I would like to say that this is my very first review on IMDb.I choose to begin my reviews with The Walking Dead because it's very emotional & gut punching series. So,let's get to the point...
Season 1 Episode 1:Days Gone Bye.
When I heard about the Walking Dead I was quite curious because I had never read the graphic novel so I was untouched with its content(storyline and characters).I knew it was about a zombie virus because i'm interested in post-apocalyptic events,so I watched the whole season in one day and i sticked with the series since then. The first episode was a strong prologue and let me believe that I wasn't wasting my time. From the beginning, everything was quite perfect, the environment where the events unfold, the make-up & the special effects on the walkers and the whole set in the city Of Atlanta. The acting from Andrew Lincoln & of course Lennie Jones is perfect and very emotional. They make you feel all the tragedy and the things they've passed. As a premiere I had high hopes that they will show you how all the things start,i wanted to see how the virus was spread and not have a time-skip after Rick's injury, but in the end i didn't care so much because the result was great. The best moments of the episode that scribed in my mind were when Rick walked out of the hospital and saw the amount of the dead people laying on the ground, when he found reanimated Hannah and then met Morgan with his son(Duane) and finally the ending of the episode at the city was intense and perfect.
To this episode i give a 9 out of 10 for all the strong moments, the acting and all the hopes for the best to come.
