Love (2016)
I hear the haters, but I just love the show.
I've spent some time reading through the reviews of this show and most of them are rather high. I must admit that I fall into the category of people who have found something truly "lovable" (sorry for the pun) about this show.
For some inexplicable reason, I find the show is largely relatable, but I often find the characters confusing and inconsistent. I think to a large degree, people take issue with the way that the characters act, especially Gus, who people claim has no right to act like a jerk on the count of his nose being on the large side. Also a some hate the fact that Gus is 'ugly' and able to get with good looking women, which I believe to be a reflection of their own shallowness, rather than it being completely unbelievable.
I will admit that the proposed 3 some with two gorgeous girls, who also happen to be sisters, does seem *cough* slightly *cough* implausible.
As for the criticism on comedy, I find that the show has elements of humour, but it's by no means meant to make you laugh out loud all the time or at all for that matter. I read one user critique the show based on its lack of humour, which I can understand, but I think this gives a more realistic view to real life. Especially, for the characters involved in the show.
As for the title, a lot of people take issue with the fact that the show is called "love", when apparently there seems to be very little actual "love" involved. I disagree. One of the great aspects of the show is the fact that it portrays 'love' in a very raw fashion and doesn't shy from exploring the oddities of those within a relationship. Additionally, I've always felt that the title was actually sarcastic, demonstrating that the concept of love in its traditional sense no longer exists in modern day society.
To a degree, I quite agree.
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)
Surprisingly pleasant and overly warming.
I never review movies, but this is an exception. I have never been so pleasantly surprised by a movie in such a long time and I really have to commend the cast for doing such a great job. The movie was heartfelt from start to finish and included just the right balance of laughs and tragedy to keep the overall mood upbeat.
The story, which I will refrain from spoiling, is one that can be related to everyone, regardless of our circumstances. It presents a clear choice that we make everyday; live life to its fullest or use excuses to keep everyday the exact same until we die. I believe that there is no greater message worth spreading.
As I said, I have no intent on spoiling this movie whatsoever, but if you happen to run out of movie ideas, this is a solid choice even for family viewing, despite the 15 certificate.
