Roswell, New Mexico (2019–2022)

Not bad, but not good.
23 July 2019
Original was great, and I was curious to see how the remake panned out. I watched the first episode, and found it wasn't to my taste, but it wasn't hands down terrible either.

The more diverse cast alongside the current state of fear and racism towards immigrants was quite an interesting addition, and a good concept...except it was so blatantly presented. It felt like it was shown to the audience with a neon sign, so my mind got stuck on that one idea for the entire episode, causing me to miss other things (which caused me to rewind multiple times).

This in and of itself of course isn't bad, not everyone obviously will react the same, but I found myself wishing things were eased into more versus tossed in my face all at once. I do understand setting up a storyline, but this felt generic and overdone, and by the end while SOME things were new, the whole of it felt like every other sappy romanic drama show I've seen. Too much, too fast, just not what peaks my interest. But an intriguing take on the original.

My suggestion would be that if you are curious, give it a go. You might enjoy it, or you might not, there's a lot going for it in both pros and cons.

Don't Bother
26 February 2019
Movie is boring, the script is dull and the acting subpar. I'm usually all for a good B horror, but this one had me nodding off. It was incredibly hard to follow what was going on and who everyone was, and absolutely no emotional connection was enforced with any of them to the point where I was hoping they'd all get killed off. Takes literally 40 minutes for anything mildly exciting to happen, and calling it mildly exciting is being generous. Lighting was either too much or too little, nothing inbetween, making zero proper atmosphere for what I was guessing the feeling they were attempting to pull off during different scenes. Character development was nom existent, lines were cardboard and delivered just as dryly. Not worth your time, even if you're bored.

Not What I Expected
19 January 2019
I don't usually write reviews, except when something phenomenally good or bad comes along. Sadly this is the latter. I love my post apocalyptic movies, new plot lines even if the acting is bad catch my interest. Sadly, this movie just bored me from the start. It's full of unnecessary scenes extended to add time, where you sit and wonder why it's even needed. They didn't add feeling or awe, they didn't reveal any sort of plot point, it was just lots of staring at scenery, rooms or the two main actors doing absolutely nothing noteworthy.

The initial premise was interesting, until it settled in how unlikely it was for a movie trying to base things very soundly on science. Just didn't sit as plausible with me.

The romance part was ridiculous as well, and I also wonder how the main character and her interstellar love interest even got to truly know each other if she was born and raised only on Earth, as this was never fully explained. Maybe he lived there too, and went to IO later? No clue. It was never really touched upon that I saw, although I won't be watching again to check on this.

The whole thing was just frustrating, and I ended up hitting the 10 second fast forward to get past those lengthy pointless scenes that showed us nothing. The ending was 100% ridiculous as well, it made no sense if you really think about the scope of everything, and that probably ticked me off the most. For a scientific main character, I doubt she'd hold to a thought process like that if she was really considering all factors.

Best part of the movie was the scenery outside. That was it's only redeeming factor in my eyes. Not worth a watch, but good if you need something to put you to sleep.

Amazing!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm quite a horror junkie, and it's so rare to find such an engaging horror series. Fantastic atmosphere, the creepy bits weren't overdone so none of it seemed hokey, acting was spot on, and in the end I didn't feel cheated by the plot line (no holes or strings left dangling, I really hate when that happens). Usually I can tear apart horror movies because of inconsistencies or impractical things but I saw none when I binge watched this show. Just fantastic all around, and I really enjoyed the way it was told, the past and present and how it flowed so well. I recommend this 100%.

Fun and Engaging
6 October 2018
This series reminds me a lot of Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark with moral centers reminiscent of Asop's Fables . Each episode is based around some sort of damaged moral, such as bullying or theft, and spins a tale around what could happen if the wrongs aren't put right. Changing every episode, some feel more horror orientated whilst others definitely lean towards fantasy or science fiction. I feel like this is a Creepypasta for kids anthology, a lot of fun to watch and sort out where the stories are leading. Acting isn't top notch, definitely more like Goosebumps in that effect, but it's not intolerable and since the plots were so engaging I didn't care one bit. I highly suggest this to those prone to the weird and eerie stories you might hear around a campfire.
