The Tell-Tale Heart (1991 Video)
A good intro to Poe...
19 June 2023
Rather than expecting some great cinematic masterpiece, as a few of my fellow reviewers did, I went into this short with the proper expectations. After all, it's only 23 minutes in duration. This is simply a reading of this classic tale in play form, appropriate for ages 13 and up. I had just introduced my 13 year old to Poe via the "Who Was..." biography series and then we visited The Poe Museum in Richmond, Va. So I thought an age appropriate video would be a good way to introduce his best known and most well loved story to him. Yes, it's still a little scary to most 13 year olds, but not too scary. Recommend!

Damages: The Storm's Moving In (2012)
Season 5, Episode 7
What a drag...
5 March 2023
I'm a huge fan of this show! But the straight up hard cold fact is that this episode is one long binal boring wasteful torturous drag. Waiting at an airport? Really? This is the writers' idea of an interesting story line? It's hard to believe that this actually aired. Do yourself a favor and skip this episode. It serves no purpose and should be thrown on the trash heap of discarded worthless episodes. I'm glad this is the last season. The Glenn Close character has become so unlikable. BTW, why are they introducing a new story line? Chris Sanchez has information he wants to leak? Let's get to the trial already and end this series!

Funny with a lot of heart!
16 January 2023
This is Tom Hanks' best film in years! Yes, he grumpy and thinks everyone is an idiot...but there's a reason.

Mariana Treviño's character is the heart of the film. She's an outgoing, bubbly but down to earth pregnant woman who moves into Otto's neighborhood with her husband and two daughters.

Although there are some moments of sadness (attempted suicides), this is a result of love lost and is balanced by light-hearted comedic moments.

Tom Hanks' performance is subtle yet powerful and relatable. This is a remake of a Swedish film titled "A Man Called Ove" made in 2016 which was based on a best selling novel by Fredrik Backman.

Highly recommended!

Freakin' Great!
15 May 2022
Harrelson, Goodman, Davidson & Haddish are all perfect for their roles. As a big fan of the original comic books, this series is outstanding! I've outgrown my need for the weed but this series still makes me laugh. Too bad there are only eight episodes. Enjoy!

The Wilds (2020–2022)
Season 1=good, Season 2=bad. Please no Season 3. I don't care anymore.
9 May 2022
After Season 1, I was excited about watching Season 2. But then I started watching Season 2 and was truly disappointed by the ridiculous plot points added to pad out the series; a birthday party??, self gratification on someone's back??, a funeral??, Ben frickin' Folds??? - c'mon man!!!

I finished watching season 2 and was simply angry. Hey writers, you need to answer some simple questions the audience has! Oh well, after watching the last episode, the only question I had was, "why did I waste my time and interest in this series?". Don't bother.

An all around terrible film
30 October 2021
Bad writing. Horrible acting (especially Denise Richards). Apathetic directing. A complete waste of time and money for anyone and everyone involved. A perfect movie for Riff Trax.

Knowing (2009)
Dumb ending, no answers
15 June 2021
The first 105 mins is a pretty decent movie. The last 15 minutes is an unexplainable and unrealistic piece of fantasy. The two have nothing to do with each other.

My wife, daughter and I loved this movie. It had a good message and an entertaining cast. It's a good story about strong women helping out their community. Recommended!

Finally, an action movie with a message!
13 February 2021
For those who like suspense and action movies, check this out for sure! There's plenty of movies like this that are just empty shoot em up, chase the bad guys, blah, blah, blah junk. This movie has the drama, action and suspense along with a good spiritual message. A must see for all!

Great film...whether or not you believe
13 January 2021
Do you believe we actually landed on the moon? Well, it doesn't really matter because either way this film is smart, funny, interesting and entertaining. Matt Johnson is a master, be sure to also watch his "The Dirties".

The reason for making this film? Complete Unknown
11 August 2020
What can I say about this film? It was complete annoyance, complete irritation, complete delusion, completely nonsense, complete dementia and a complete waste of time. The only character in the film with any sense was the part played by Condola Rashad. The money spent on the making of this film should have been used to feed the poor.

Raising Expectations (2016–2019)
Total Letdown
20 July 2020
Without Priestly and Ringwood, this show would be a complete waste of time. The blame lies primarily with the casting (of the kids) and writing (which is atrocious at best).

Inheritance (I) (2020)
Good film, worth watching!
9 July 2020
This is a fun ride with great performances by Simon Pegg (loved his American accent too) & Lily Collins! The tension is held throughout by director Vaughn Stein. Keeps you guessing right up to the last shot. I believe Christina DeRosa was better suited to play the mother character but I enjoyed her performance in the role of Sofia Fiore.

The Girl (I) (2012)
Great movie...but incomplete.
11 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Abbie Cornish and Maritza Santiago Hernandez (her first movie) were perfect for their roles. Ashley appeared to truly be changed by her time spent with Rosa. But there was no resolution with Ashley; did the experience change her enough to stop drinking, clean up her home and her life? Is she going to stop blaming others, take responsibility for her life decisions and really make an effort to get her son back? I guess it's up to the audience to decide.

Great story, OK film
18 August 2019
I love animal movies but this was just an average film (with great scenery and decent acting). Much of the film was hard to "buy in to" though. Jenna Ortega is a fine young actor and I'm confident she'll make better films in the future. Recommended, but don't go in with high expectations.

The title says it all...
24 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The title of this film IS my review. This film IS a disaster! It shows promise in the beginning and appears to be a good, entertaining ensemble cast. But soon we see that each character is simply a cliche. A doctor that makes ecstacy from items in the medicine cabinet and milk?? A theology teacher that actually thinks the rapture is Biblical?? And the last line is "are we going to do this or what?"?? I have an answer, "no!" "No, don't watch this movie". You'll thank me later.

Gli amici di Gesù - Giuda (2001 TV Movie)
What is and what isn't...
2 September 2017
Just because it isn't in the Bible, doesn't mean it didn't happen. And just because it's in this movie, doesn't mean it did. The Bible contains very little background and details about Judas' life. This movie is simply an exploration in what might have happened beyond what The Bible tells us. Relax, Christians.

Dreary, depressing...don't!
6 June 2017
First of all, I love Kate Winslet. She's a talented actress and I'm open to watching any movie in which she stars. That being said, this movie was a mistake. It has its moments of light heartedness and humor, but never enough to overcome the dreary atmosphere, unlikable characters and go-nowhere story line. Do I recommend seeing this film? In a word; Don't!

I talk to dead people...
16 April 2012
I would have been able to tolerate this film if the main character (Ned) didn't talk to his dead wife in every other scene. These scenes were not only annoying (with the overtly perky dead wife) but they were also Biblically inaccurate. The Bible says in Ecc. 9:5 "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing." The acting was below average and the storyline was rather weak. And it really wasn't a faith-based film (as another reviewer suggested); no-one prayed or every even visited a church, no mention of Jesus and the only character with a hint of Christian values was not really developed. Over all, this film fell flat. Truly disappointed.

King Kong (2005)
Waste of time
13 January 2008
This film is a complete waste of time! Please. Don't see it. Boring. Frustrationg. Silly beyond words! It consists of two hours of gross-out creatures battling humans and one hour of story. A prime example of where the big, mega million-dollar movie industry is headed. Nowhere. All the time and money put into this and the result is a steaming pile of cinematic boredom. And what did Ann plan to do with Kong? Start a family of gorillas and live amongst the icky jungle people? Ridiculous in every way. Worse than Lord of The Rings and twice as far-fetched! Let's see. Do I "buy" that Kong can appreciate the beauty of a sunset (or sunrise for that matter)? Of course not. It certainly wasn't beauty that killed this film. Hear that, Peter?

Tribalistas (2002 Video)
Three musical wonders
23 November 2005
I've been a fan of Marisa Monte for about five years now and had noticed the names; Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown in the songwriting credits of many of the songs on her CDs. I was so happy to see that they had produced a collection of songs together! These three beautiful people are obviously good friends and it shows in "Tribalistas" (in the CD and on the DVD). Before each song, we get a glimpse into the process of the collaboration between these three great artists, who truly respect and care for one another. Be sure to notice all the little instruments that are thrown into the mix (most of which Carlinhos made himself). The songs are fun and emotional, upbeat and sweet. I purchased this CD in Brasil on a two-week trip to be with my girlfriend. Listening to these songs always takes me back to her and to Brasil. The Tribalistas are the Beatles of Brasil. You must see this film!

Uno (2004)
Uno is a Diez
12 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
What a great film! It was brilliantly acted and directed and kept my attention and interest throughout. Hats off to Espen Juul Kristiansen's performance as David's brother, Kjetil. The scenes with him and the dog are very powerful and touching. It's a great story...basically about loyalties (similiar to the way that "Reservoir Dogs" was about loyalties) and what happens when you have to choose a side. This is the first film I've seen by Aksel Hennie and I look forward to many more. Why does David smile in the last shot of the film (when it appears that he has nothing to smile about)? Closure. This shot speaks volumes about the character, David and Hennie as a filmmaker. Some directors may have added a scene in which he was talking to his mother about how happy he is that's it's all over and "I'll do better by you and Kjetil from now on." etc. Not necessary, Mr. Hennie. We get it.

Sin destino (2002)
Gritty without a brain
12 July 2005
This was a good idea for a film. It's covers an issue that is indeed a problem in Mexico and elsewhere around the world; kids on there own in poor neighborhoods "forced" to resort to prostitution and drugs just to get food and survive. But as far as I could tell, this film didn't really say anything about how this happens or on a basic level, is there hope of a different way of life in which these kids could find some peace? It's a dismal film without much of a brain. It's the easiest thing in the world for a storyteller to say; "this is how it is" and nothing more. I'm not going to waste anymore time with this one...it's not worth it.
