Disneyland: Bride of Boogedy (1987)
Awful Sequel To A Cute Movie!
I saw Mr. Boogedy on The Disney Channel and I loved that movie and than I saw this terrible remake called Bride Of Boogedy where somehow Mr. Boogedy has come back and trys to force someone to become his bride. This movie just can't compare to the first movie and the fact that Kristy Swanson is not playing Jenny and was replaced by another actress was very disappointing. Kristy was great as Jenny and it just wasn't the same without her. Now, don't get me wrong I like Tammy Lauren, I have seen her in other things and I think she was good in them but she just wasn't as good a Jenny as Kristy Swanson. And I also thought this movie was lacking of the charm of the first movie. I would'nt recommend this one!
The Bad Seed (1985)
Decent But No Where Near As Good As The Movie Made in the 50's!
I have seen the original Bad Seed Movie, the one made in the 50's which was based on a stage play which I believe was based on a book and while this made for television movie has the ending that was changed in the old movie because it was deemed inappropriate for the evil psychotic little girl to have gotten away with her murderous activities and this movie is decent and has a good cast that includes the underrated Blair Brown but the movie is no where near as good as the old version that starred Patricia McCormick as the girl and the girl in this movie though not a bad actress just can't compare to Patricia! Now, I want to point off that I saw this remake long before I saw the original movie so there is no bias here!
Disneyland: Mr. Boogedy (1986)
Cute Movie! I Want To See It on DVD!
I remember watching Mr. Boogedy on the Disney channel and thinking it was great! I even taped it on VHS video tape but no longer have the tape so I would like to see it get put on DVD or video but especially DVD! Kristy Swanson from the 1992 theatrical movie Buffy The Vampire Slayer was great as Jenny the teenaged daughter of the family who bought the old house haunted by the ghost of the evil and freaky Mr. Boogedy and I also liked Mimi Kennedy as her mother. Fans of the TV show Dharma and Greg may recall her as playing Dharma's new agey hippie mother. I also liked the actor who played the father who fans of the old sitcom Rhoda may recall him as playing one of Rhoda's sister Brenda's boyfriends. And the little brothers were good too, David Faustion who played Bud Bundy in Married with Children was great as Corin and Benji Gregory who I think went on to star in the sitcom Alf was adorable as little Arie. And last but not least, John Astin was great as the weird neighbor and head of the chamber of commerce and welcoming committee. I hope to see this cute movie put on DVD!
Big Top Pee-wee (1988)
Big Top Pee Wee? It's More Like Big Flop Pee Wee!
I love Pee Wee's Big Adventure, the one in which Pee Wee Herman travels to Texas and California in search of his stolen bike and I bought the DVD for that adorable and funny movie! I saw this sequel and it's just horrible and I think the only scene that was funny was the scene with Pee Wee feeding the worm to the baby bird even though it was so obvious it was candy, one of those gummy worms. Anyway this movie is not funny and is a major snore fest and I can see why the professional movie critics who I don't always agree with hated this movie. I very strongly agree with them on this one and I have read that even Paul Ruebens (Pee Wee Herman) has admitted he wasn't to pleased with this movie!
Zapped Again! (1990)
Dullesville!
I loved the original Zapped, the one that was made in the 80's and starred Scott Baio, Willie Aames, Heather Thomas and that former teen model named Felice. That movie with it's goofy humor was charming and I liked the cast and the plot of the geeky teenaged scientist accidentally mixing some potion that gave him the power of telekinesis. I saw that on HBO several times and enjoyed it and than bought the VHS video tape. I saw the sequel Zapped 2 on TV and it just doesn't have the humor or the charm of Zapped 1 and I think it stinks that this movie has made it to DVD when Zapped 1 isn't on DVD at all. I mean shouldn't the first movie had made it to DVD first! This sequel is terrible and a major snorefest. Dullesville! Yawn City!
The Shining (1980)
Loosely Based On Stephen King's Book, But It's Good!
I watched the Stanley Kubrick directed version of The Shining that starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall and though not as good or as scary as the Stephen King book it is loosely based on it is a good movie anyway and Jack Nicholson is over the top as Jack Torrance but isn't that what makes this movie so good? He's awesome in this and there are some good scares in this movie as well as some gross out gory scenes (like the blood pouring out of the elevator) that should please any horror movie fan. I also recommend the 1997 remake that starred Steven Weber and Rebecca Demornay as Jack and Wendy but I would recommend that to fans of the book. Fans of this version who have never read the book will probably not like the remake but I think it was good and I liked how it was a lot like the book.
Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
A Fun Movie To watch!
I saw this movie last year on The Disney Channel, I think it was shown in October on Halloween or the day before Halloween and I liked this movie and thought it was funny though it did contain a few shocks. It stars Caroline Rhea who played Aunt Zelda in the TV show Sabrina The Teenaged Witch as a divorced single mother of 3 children and the 2 oldest children fix her up on a date but soon realize that they may have accidentally set her up on a date with a vampire played by Charles Shaunessy who played Mr. Sheffield in the sitcom The Nanny and with the help of a vampire hunter played by Robert Carradine the kids try to determine if the guy is a vampire or not. I would like to see this movie put on DVD!
The Banger Sisters (2002)
The Only Likable Character Is The Depressed Guy Played By Geoffrey Rush!
I watched the Banger Sisters when someone I know rented the DVD and I'm sure glad that I didn't waste money buy buying this movie on DVD or video or that I wasted money on the rental. This far fetched movie has great cast but has some of the most unlikeable characters I have ever seen in a movie and the only likable character is the depressed guy played by Geoffrey Rush who really put on a superb American accent but the movie was very disappointing and the plot was pointless and ridiculous and the ending with Susan Sarandan's character dressed like a floozy at her daughter's high school graduation at that exclusive private school and the rich high society parents not being shocked at her drastic change was totally unrealistic. I would only recommend watching this horrible movie on network TV or cable!
Inspector Gadget (1999)
Absolutely Dreadful!
I love the old 80's cartoon which is voiced by Don Addams from Get Smart but this live action Disney theatrical movie despite having a good cast that includes Matthew Brodrick (Labyrinth, Wargames, ) and Michelle Trachtenburg (Harriet The Spy, Buffy The Vampire Slayers seasons 5 - 7) this movie was absolutely dreadful with good special effects over shadowing a very messed up screen play which made this a very rushed and disjointed movie and it was a waste of time to watch and wasted the talents of the good cast! It was a major stinkfest and with some of my favorite actors being in this movie I really hate having to say that but I just had to say it anyway!
To borrow a quote used by Simon Cowell to a bad singer during tryouts for American Idol. That was absolutely dreadful!
About Schmidt (2002)
Boring Movie Filled With Unlikeable Characters!
I like Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates and I know I will probably get low ratings for saying this but I really didn't like this movie. Despite the great actors like Jack Nicholson, Kathy Bates and Howard Hessman I just didn't enjoy this movie and found it utterly lacking of charm and wit. I haven't read the book but I know people who did and they said that the book was different than the movie and 100% better! I can't compare them to each other because I didn't read the book but I can say that I thought this movie was boring! And it's not that it's because I don't like dramatic movies, I like a good drama movie like anyone else but this one just didn't appeal to me because I just didn't like the characters but especially the obnoxious spoiled brat daughter and her scuzzy loser fiancé!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
The Fluffy Buffy!
I love the awesome TV show so I decided to watch the theatrical movie that lead to the show and while I prefer the TV show and I know that Joss Whedon hated this movie because they tampered with his script and he had creative differences with the movie studio and a certain actor in the movie and with me being a big fan of his I must admit (Sorry Joss) That I enjoyed watching this movie and thought it was cute. A light weight fluffy movie. It may be a more sugar coated bubble gum version and not like the TV show but it's not bad and is amusing and I happen to like Kristy Swanson and have been a fan ever since seeing her in the Disney made for television movie Mr. Boogedy. Okay I prefer Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy but I also liked Kristy's take on the character and lets face it, if it wasn't for Kristy and this movie there would be no TV show with SMG! I highly recommend watching this cute movie to anyone who can enjoy it without hating it because of the show and you can get past the not so hot special effects like the vampires not disappearing and exploding into nothing but a pile of dust like the TV show!
The Shining (1997)
Just as Scary as The Book!
WARNING THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN A COUPLE OF SPOILERS! I read the superb book by Stephen King when I was a teenager and I thought the book was amazing. I watched the Stanley Kubrick movie that starred the great Jack Nicholson even though that with all of the edits it became only loosely based on the book. Anyways I saw this remake and I thought it was superb and it was so much like the book with only a couple of minor edits and it was so scary and I just loved it! In the Jack Nicholson movie his character Jack Torrance was crazy from the get go but in in this movie Steven Weber's Jack Torrance slowly gradually goes bonkers just like in the book. And you get to see Tony as he is in the book and not as an imaginary finger friend and you get the topiary animal bushes and the wasps nests and the croquet mallets. I'm so glad I bought the DVD and I highly recommend it to all fans of the book! Fans of the Kubrick movie who never read the book will probably be disappointed but fans of the book will probably be delighted! AWESOME!
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
The Most Faithful Movie of The Book but Not 100% Faithful!
WARNING THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOiLERS so if you haven't seen this movie yet or read Bram Stoker's classic book you may not want to read this review! The Dracula book by Bram Stoker is great and I have seen some movie versions which includes this one which is Coppola's take on it which he titled Bram Stoker's Dracula and with a title like that you may be mislead into thinking it's going to be totally faithful to the book but it isn't. It's more faithful than all the other great Dracula movies but has added things like the whole thing with Elizabeta and there are some gross scenes like a sleepwalking Lucy having sex with Dracula who has transformed himself into a wolf. The scene with the baby and Dracula's 3 brides was very disturbing too but that was in the book but it was more disturbing in the movie! I must admit to screaming NO when I saw that scene in this movie! The acting in this movie was great, Gary Oldman was superb as Dracula and I'm surprised that he doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. Anthony Hopkins was great too as the eccentric Van Helsing but I think he played him even nuttier than he was in the book and the character was almost psychotic. Wynona Ryder was a good Mina except I think she could have worked a little on her imitation of a British accent, it was rather weak but her acting was great. Keanu Reeves was good as Jonathan Harker and honestly I don'think his imitation of a British accent was that bad and I think his accent was better than Wynona's. The guy who played Renfield was good but not quite as good as Peter McNichol played Renfield in the Mel Brook's spoof Dracula Dead and Loving it! The actress playing Lucy was very pretty but unfortunately was very annoying especially with all her scenes where she was moaning and groaning and when I was watching the DVD I said aloud a couple of times oh shut up and just shut her up! Though this movie is not totally faithful to the book I still recommend it to fans of the book and fans of Dracula movies though I have to take points off for the weird scene of Lucy and Dracula morphed into a wolf creature! EEEEEWWWWWW!
