It is so hard to find unique science fiction/thriller type movies these days. This is one of those simple films that catches you quickly and you are glued to every second of it from that point on. The lead who plays Thomas and the young lady who plays his girl friend do a fabulous job. Very good story and wonderful acting. Lately I am being more selective about the movies I watch as I am growing tired of gratuitous violence/sex etc. This is not a children's story, as many would find this too scary (in my opinion). Don't read to much about the story for this movie, just watch it. I knew nothing about this story and really enjoyed the character development and plot. I don't want to say too much at all, because I want others to be pleasantly surprised as I was with such a rare find. Just a good movie. I only write reviews for movies that I would recommend to my friend/family and to support the movies that I feel are truly entertaining.

Saw this at a friends house, have no idea how they got a copy. It was in french with no subtitles. What an absolutely gorgeous movie! I really can't even find the words that would do justice to the sets and costumes. Never have I seen such detail. The costumes, the flowers, the storybook transitions and the wonderful actors! I would watch this movie several times a year just because it truly is a magical experience. I keep trying to find out how I can buy a copy with subtitles, or where I can see it on the big screen. But, I find nothing? Why? Was there a dispute over distribution or rating? There is one scene with some nudity, but it perfectly fits and is an innocent scene, nothing that would disturb a 10-12 or older. I really can't say enough about this version of Beauty and the Beast. The french have captured this story to almost perfection, from beginning to end. I cannot wait to see this again and shall continue trying to find a copy to purchase for my library. One of my favorite movies of all time now. It seems amazing to me that this movie was not released in the US and still I am not able to purchase a DVD, it was released in Feb 2014? Sure would love to know why...

This is a lovely family/children's movie. It is a unique fairy tale that, though not very complex (remember it is mainly for children) is very clever and quite funny at times. The acting is very good and the sets and costumes are exquisite. I was thoroughly entertained and wish there were more movies like this out there. I rate movies by how much I wish they would not end so quickly, and this one was over far too fast.
I am a big Tim Curry fan, and while this part did not really showcase his abilities, I still appreciated seeing him in this kind of movie. The characters are very rich and the attention to detail made some of the scenes magical. If you enjoy fairy tales don't pass this movie up!
