Night Drive (2019)
If you liked Primer (2004), this is a more polished, straight-forward story.
I rather enjoyed the complexities and moral dilemmas of Primer (2004), which was shot on Super16 for only $7K.
This is a more polished, still yet 'indie,' title that takes some of those same aspects, and puts them to a more interesting, polished and straight-forward story.
The character development is excellent, and the build up quite interesting. It's also short at under 80 minutes without credits, and really no longer than it needed to be.
A Good Woman Is Hard to Find (2019)
Massive Perspective Shift ... which takes the FULL MOVIE to appreciate
This one is way, way DEEPER than at 'face value,' and you should realize that at the very end. And then you'll want to watch it again.
It really showcases issues with society, beyond just what single mothers have to deal with (although that's the perspective from almost the start), as well as the ease as which 'tactical gossip' becomes reality, beyond just the lack of empathy ... which you quickly realize gets worse and worse and worse.
Yes, it's violent and even gory too. But if you're
focused on that, you're missing the huge, massive, regulary overlooked themes that are RARELY in Hollywood movies. You will be questioning a lot of what she does ... until the very end.
Perspective ... that's what really did it for me at the end, as it all came together. Again, it was way DEEPER than I thought, and the DISTURBING nature of the movie had NOTHING to do with the violence ... but the attitudes and realities that are all-too-common.
This is one of my new favorite, and -- again -- quite disturbing, movies right now ... and I fear it's going to be more real life for more and more people in the near future, with where we are headed here in the US.
