Wild China (2008)
not a nature documentary
This is by far the moat self serving "nature documentary" that i have ever seen. When i watch a nature documentary that is exactly what i want to see.... the animals and land of the region, but this documentary was just as much about the religion and beliefs of the people of China than it was about nature. The Tibet episode was almost entirely about the beliefs of the people. It seems as if the people of China have already killed off all of their animals so they couldn't fill 6 full episodes with nature. How can you make a nature documentary called "Tibet" and in that episode only mention Mt Everest in passing? I do not recommend these shows if you are looking for a good nature documentary. Maybe the last episode, because i didn't bother to watch it.
Planet Earth (2006)
Good filming, poor narration
This is a great series. First, the bad part... the narration can get a bit annoying. An American version would be great so measurements were in Fahrenheit, inches and miles rather than metric. Other annoyances such as the constant and incorrect use of the word "literally" which after a while is comical could also be corrected. Finally, a narrator that doesn't sound like he is talking with food in his mouth would be a big improvement. That's the bad part, but the good outweighs the bad which is why I rated this a 6. Great care and expense was obviously taken with the filming which includes everything from closeups to aerial imagery. This is the type of video that makes your HDTV really pay off.
Antarctic Edge: 70° South (2015)
one sided..
This was a very one sided "the sky is falling" documentary. They call themselves scientists but they don't understand that the earth changes? Creatures go extinct. It's been happening for millions of years. The earth gets colder, the earth heats up. It happens. After listening to these scientists I would think they cry at night because the dinosaurs went extinct. If people want to build a house on the seashore or on a riverbank then they get the beauty of getting to live near the water, But guess what? You might get flooded. If you do, you knew the risks. Polar bears evolved with thick coats, the ability to swim, big claws, and big teeth. If they can't adapt to the warming temperatures then they might die off. I'd rather they didn't, but some other species will take their place. More species have gone extinct than currently exist. We are bound to lose some over our lifetime. Your time on earth is not that special Mr. Scientist, so get over it and take up a worthy cause.
Avatar (2009)
Great movie for atheists
As an atheist I found this movie very interesting to watch. The range of emotions and thoughts about the director and his ideas were all over the place for me, finally culminating in great satisfaction at the end. Early on in the movie I thought Cameron was nuts... The movie quickly got spiritual with trees holding spirits of dead relatives, etc.. My atheist mind immediately thought.. "How can this guy Cameron expect me to believe that another race on another planet will come up with the preposterous idea of a god, and an afterlife like man did here on Earth?"
I quickly found out though that this race does not actually have beliefs at all. In fact, they actually have proof.. What they have is not a belief, but a tangible, touchable fact. They talk to their deceased relatives, and they actually communicate with their god (not pray) and it is proved throughout the movie to be an actual reality. I quickly found myself liking the movie because the concept of a god that someone has really seen and has proof of and is real, is intriguing. So real that when their god was asked to help fight off the humans, it actually helped by sending some rather bad-ass animals.
Rated a 7 out of 10, only because it was over-hyped.. honestly thought it would be better than Titanic given the hype, but in my opinion, this is far from Titanic. Everyone should see it though.
