Dota: Dragon's Blood (2021–2022)

It needs to age. Waiting for more!
25 March 2021
What we've seen is just a glimpse of Dota's lore. I like that the fundamental premises were already presented albeit they could be a vague especially for casual viewers. Hint: ep 1 intro and Terrorblade's statement towards the end of his scene after the fight with Selemene

For the newcomers, or perhaps, even for those Dota fans but unaware of the depths of its lore, this season will be too hazy or too fragmented. As a typical series taken as it is, this series looks bad. Rooting on someone is looking harder, everyone seems to be immoral or has other reasons for one not to be rooted for. Such element could be explained by the lore later on. As a Dota fan, I liked how fleshed out it is. The plot may become slow but this would mean there will be more focus on character story and development. For now, we only had a glimpse of Davion's, Mirana's, Luna's, and Invoker's. We have not really seen the deeper stories for these characters. Davion, Mirana, and Luna for their future and Invoker for his general role in their universe, past and future. All the while, Dota, as the game, has around 120 heroes to offer. I'm just excited of what's to come. The community has waited a long time for this. Before, we were just watching Slacks' Loregasm series in YT for that good 'ol Dota narrative. Now, we've got an actual series that is so far not too bad. Season 2 pleasee!

Good Sci-Fi. Wrong title.

The creators could have used another title for this one. (I mean they could have just put on the credits: 'loosely based on the Huxley novel.)

This one just butchered the magnificent classic that we know.

The whole movie is just a 2- hour fan service.
4 August 2018
Have you ever watched a movie where even if you already set the speed to 1.3, you still can't stop yourself to forward it 5-20 seconds time to time? I just did. I even read positive reviews to convince myself that the film is good but nothing worked. Don't get me wrong. I know, and I am very much familiar with MCU. I liked it, in fact, even if the whole plot is cliche.

The whole movie is just a 2- hour fan service thus the lack of storytelling. But, of course, this would be not an issue for Marvel since the viewers watch the film only for the sake of seeing their favorite characters come to life (even with slight inaccuracies) and knowing (not figuring out because every Marvel film is shallow) what would happen at the end of the film. Thus, it is also the case that if the viewers already knew what will happen in the film, the film will lose its value. This is pretty simple. Every important part of this film is just a collection of discrete information. Watching this film felt like reading a bullet outline. There's no transition. No emotions to fill those gap--which something I believe a good movie should have. The supposed catharsis should have happened during the whole disintegration moment, like really? How cringey is that? This film is a mosaic. Most of the plot-turning moments in the film are unsubstantiated. I would bet even the Marvel fan themselves observed some moments in the film where they would react: how did that happen.

The script made the film into a clown fiesta. This film is more like a parody. A highly budgeted parody is a crap.
