The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021)
Boy that went down hill quickly!
I noticed, amongst all the glowing reviews, another reviewer comment on the two halved nature of this film. Which is entirely right and I tend to agree with them on several things. But one difference is how good the second half is. Yes the first half is okay. The narration does want to make you want to pour acid in your ears at times, but the acting is fine and the storyline interesting enough. But when the film radically changes down the line, for me it goes down hill quicky. It's annoying and depressing at the same time. If you don't mind feeling those two things when you watch a film I don't suppose it will be a problem, but I don't particularly seek them. In fact I'd rather avoid it if possible. So I was left feeling I wished I hadn't watched the film despite a promising start and the good performances.
American Night (2021)
Two hours I'll never get back
I thought this film was dire. Don't believe the reviews that say otherwise. It doesn't make a lot of sense and some of it is plain stupid (e.g. Walking along a ledge with a blindfold. Why would anyone do it that way?).
I wish I'd given up on it in the first hour and saved wasting my time on the rest of it, but I foolishly stuck with it and now regret it. Don't make my mistake. You'll not get anything out of sticking to the end of this film and do yourself a favour and listen to my advice. I only wish someone had advised me.
Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break (2021)
Stick with it
I nearly gave up on this film about half an hour in. As someone else describes it, it seems to be a goofy comedy that I thought was pretty lame. But it's only setting the scene for what is to happen when Paul decides to go on the rampage. The last hour of the film is excellent imo. I hadn't paid the comments, being posted on Paul's 'Trend Ladder feed' any attention at first, but when I did they turn out to be what makes this film (oh and the two old ladies too). It's a film I needed to watch again to see what I had missed first time around regarding the comments (this from a person who rarely can watch a film twice). And I enjoyed the film more second time around. There's some things that could have been improved. I think the Jack Tapp character could have been better. And the Bowie jokes are very naff. But the Trend Ladder thing is inspired and to me a comedy classic.
The Wedding Video (2012)
A poor film
SLIGHT SPOILER IN THIRD PARAGRAPH - I'm surprised at the good reviews this film has received on here. It was a pretty awful film. I think the scriptwriter must have some dodgy photographs of someone to get the backing to make this film, because I can't believe anyone would put their money behind such a poor script as this. There are a couple of big names in the film too, so it makes me think money is more important to them than their reputation.
I gave up before the end, and not before time, which I rarely do with films, but saw enough to give a negative of the film
As for the "bad acting" issue, someone got slated in another review for mentioning this, and told it was meant to be like that because its about amateurs videoing the lead up to a wedding, but maybe he didn't mean that and meant real bad acting from Hound and Punch. The scene where they meet in the flat after kissing and are awkward about it, is pretty awful acting.
