Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Not exactly Sci-fi and a tad predictable
Well this was a disappointment at every level and another movie that could have been so much better with more character development. How this even has the Sci-fi moniker is beyond me as the connection is cheaply done by using rather poor wardrobe. It is tediously repetitive with too much unnecessary albeit well choreographed fight scenes. I guess they filled the gaps left by the mediocre story. Michelle Yeoh is a great actress but wasted here despite her Oscar, as all her acting was just changing her facial expression but she did have a few good lines. Jamie Lee did an okay job but an Oscar performance really. I guess it was another light year for great movies so they overhyped this one to get it through the door. It will be forgotten as quickly as you can say Kung Fu.
Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022)
Poor casting
I do not understand why Emma Thompson is cast in these roles. The Children Act was nauseating enough and she comes across rather clumsy in this one too. They could have engaged someone with a bit more charisma and rather less of a 'darling'.
Wish You Were Here (2012)
Good acting, poor story,poor film
Saw this recently on a flight from Bangkok and although it was only on the incredibly small screen, I think it was about the right size for the story. It was a very simple tale, with not too much drama and fairly predictable narrative wrapped around a very obvious dialogue. The main lead acted well and that in my mind magnified the shortcomings of the story.
There were obvious gaps in the story that the actors tried to fill with raw emotion but that didn't quite gel with me and there was the willing suspension of disbelief with regard to the final scenes that were meant to sum up so much but instead left you feeling that the tale had been dragged out somewhat.
