Foundation (2021)
Good but also a bit of a mess?
My friend and I are enjoying it but it feels like maybe it should have been spread out a lot more. It really flings information at you in the beginning and it's hard to keep track of everything. Some bits feel a bit janky, some scenes feel cut short, and, without giving away spoilers, it can be hard to keep track of who's who and where you are. Still enjoying it so far, on episode 4 right now, I just feel like it could do with some organizing and maybe could have been spread out across more episodes/seasons. It feels like it's in a rush to get somewhere.
See (2019)
It's fine
It could be a lot better, a lot of it doesn't make any sense and it's a pretty basically written. It is an interesting world though, and my friends and I could enjoy it enough to get through it. We just had to pause occasionally to rant about the parts that made no sense
Steven Universe: The Movie (2019)
I think sometimes the fans forget this is a childrens show
I really loved it. I would have loved it more if there was more plot development for the show overall, and if a few things had happened differently. But the target audience is literally kids, not 25 year olds, so I'm not going to hold the things that I feel could be better against the show. I bet kids absolutely adored it, and that's who it's for.
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Worst episode of the series I've ever seen
An incredibly concerning start. Goofy, at best? Completely different tone to the rest of the series, felt like a comedy with jump scares. Enjoyable, meaningful banter and dialog has been completely replaced with catty one liners.
I'm beyong disappointed, as are most of my friends. I'm really hoping the writing and directing here waa just a one off for the season premier.
By far the worst episode of the series I've ever seen
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Not the best, but far from the worst
People seem to forget that LITERALLY every single new star trek series was almost completely different to the last, adds cannon that completely contradicts pre-existing cannon, and redesigns the klingons.
It is different to old star trek, in the way that it has to be, since there's a 20 year gap between this and the last series.
The first season, while enjoyable, lacked a lot for me personally. It missed that community vibe I'd loved from other Star Trek series so much. Every episode had to be part of the main plot, rather than just a fun side adventure. I also really struggled to get through the first three episodes and was initially very disappointed.
The second season fixes more or less any and all issues I had with the first. I don't think I have a single complaint about the second season, I absolutely love it, and so does everyone I know.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Was really excited about it, not so impressed
There are a lot of things about this show that I really like, and I feel like it really has the potential to be a delightful series. But the dialog is so, so flat. It feels incredibly unrealistic and reminiscent of something a teenager would write.
The dialog is the main reason I can't quite get into the show or enjoy the characters, since they don't feel real at all, but there's also the occasional bizarre writing choice, or gaping plot hole.
Like attacking yourself and pretending someone else did it as a form of blackmail, in a room with glass walls and about 50 witnesses. And it still works.
Or giving birth in a one piece suit.
There's just lots of little things like that, and it makes it really hard to take any of it seriously in any way. The whole show is based off a fun, interesting concept and it could be a really fun, interesting show. But for me and my friends that have watched it, it just isn't.
