Interstellar (2014)
One of the all time greats!
"Interstellar," directed by Christopher Nolan, is a cinematic masterpiece that takes audiences on an epic journey through space and time. This thought-provoking and visually stunning film combines breathtaking special effects with a deeply emotional and intellectually engaging storyline.
One of the standout features of "Interstellar" is its extraordinary visual presentation. Nolan and his team have meticulously crafted the visuals, from the desolate, dust-covered Earth to the awe-inspiring landscapes of distant planets. The use of practical effects and practical sets, along with stunning CGI, creates a sense of immersion rarely seen in science fiction films.
The film's cast, led by Matthew McConaughey, delivers exceptional performances. McConaughey's portrayal of Cooper, a pilot-turned-astronaut driven by love and the quest for survival, is both relatable and moving. Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and the rest of the cast deliver compelling performances that add depth to the characters and their relationships.
"Interstellar" is not just a visual spectacle; it's a film with profound philosophical and scientific themes. It explores complex concepts such as the theory of relativity, the nature of time, and the potential for humanity to transcend its limits. The film's blend of hard science and emotional storytelling creates a unique and intellectually stimulating cinematic experience.
The film's score, composed by Hans Zimmer, is haunting and emotionally resonant, enhancing the film's impact on the audience.
However, "Interstellar" is not without its flaws. Some may find the film's nearly three-hour runtime a bit daunting, and its intricate scientific concepts can be challenging to grasp fully. Additionally, the plot may stretch believability in places, but it's worth noting that this is a work of science fiction, and some creative license is to be expected.
In conclusion, "Interstellar" is a remarkable achievement in filmmaking. Its breathtaking visuals, outstanding performances, and thought-provoking themes make it a must-watch for fans of science fiction and anyone who appreciates ambitious and intellectually stimulating cinema. While it may not be a film for everyone due to its length and complexity, those willing to invest their time and thought into it will be rewarded with a cinematic experience that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
Ozark: Sanctified (2022)
Amazing
I started watching this show because I liked Jason Bateman. Now I'm watching it because if Julia Garner. What an amazing actress. She steals the show in literally EVERY scene she's in. This episode is no exception. She really gets to show her range here. Excellent episode.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
The Final Ride.
Perfect end in my opinion. Having both the brothers go out in ways that fitted them. Dean in battle, Sam as an old family man. It had me crying and laughing. What a legacy. 15 years. I will definitely go back and watch this series again from the beginning. 10/10.
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
PLEASE PLAY IT FIRST!!
This isn't just a game. It's an experience. I didn't want to leave a review until finishing the game. Now I have finished it, I feel I can comment fully. I read the negative reviews and the news about the idiotic body shaming of Abby. Let me say, I hated Abbey at the beginning for killing Joel! As the game progressed I found myself sympathising with her and routing for her. She was an excellent well rounded character. The actress voicing her was amazing. At some points I was angry at Ellie for keeping up her vendetta against Abbey. Anyway, this masterpiece kept me on the edge of my seat, jumping, scared, swalling lumps in my throat. It's absolutely breathtaking. All the negative reviews are coming from the wrong place. Please, do yourself a favour and just ignore them, settle in, and play for yourself. You won't regret it, I promise.
Square One (2019)
This cemented my opinion!
Through the years since the first allegation, and with the subsequent allegations that followed, I was always suspect. I was on the fence. On one hand I was "Naaah not MJ, he couldn't do that!" and on the other hand I was like "Where there's smoke, there's fire."
This documentary provides NOTHING BUT COLD HARD FACTS. It's well made, the information is presented clearly and is easily digestible. I came out of this 100% convinced of Michael's innocence! Might even give this a second watch.
Tiger King (2020)
The documentary you never knew you needed.
If they made a movie about these people I'd think, "Naaah, this is too far fetched. Unrealistic". I find it amazing there are people like this in the world doing what they're doing. I never once thought I needed to know about "big cat" owners but boy was I wrong. So please, sit down, relax, and just let these guys entertain you for a few hrs. You won't regret it.
Lore: Black Stockings (2017)
Did I miss something?
The episode is about an Irish folklore; The changeling. All of a sudden, it veers of in a completely different direction and goes on about Annie Oakley; an old west sharpshooter. Then as soon as you begin to think, "wait...did I miss something?" it's back to the changeling.
Not an overall bad episode, I just fail to see the relevance of the Annie Oakley section.
Seven Seconds (2018)
Absolutely brilliant
I won't get into it too much as I could go on forever. I'll just say that I can't recommend this show enough. Just watch it. See for yourselves. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Disgusting. Horrendous. An insult.
This film and anyone that had anything to do with it need blacklisting. Why Paul Feig and McCarthy are allowed to continue filling our screens with this crap is beyond me. It's unoriginal, boring, flat out not funny. An absolute insult to the memory of the original. And that's just the trailer. I didn't even watch the movie.
The Ritual (2017)
Tense and psychologically thrilling
This movie has you in suspense from start to almost finish. The ending was weak but the first 3/4 of this were extremely tense and eerie. The characters were relatable and you find yourself agreeing with most if not all of the decisions they make. The dialogue between the four main friends is spot on. As modern horrors go, this is by far up there.
I recommend to anyone looking for a suspenseful evening.
