Good battle scenes but not much else.........
10 November 2021
I found Fury, uneven, slow, and even turgid at times. Yes the battle scenes looked fairly authentic, although witnessing the soldiers just bimbling along at times was laughable....this is war, not a stroll down to the bar! It's just another totally over rated movie which dwarfs into comparison with classics like Band of Brothers.

Worse than poor ....
21 October 2021
I cannot recall a single noteworthy minute of this movie. Everything about it mirrors the worst of the world we currently live in. One of the poorest movies I have had the misfortune to view.

Writing and acting at it's very best
27 June 2021
One of the greatest British films ever made. Only the very best writing can make you laugh and cry almost within the same paragraph. It's combination of pathos, wit and observations on life make it an absolute joy to watch from beginning to end.

The Walking Dead: Splinter (2021)
Season 10, Episode 20

A great series has left the building............
29 March 2021
I thought the previous episode was poor but watching this was agony. Poor acting, no story whatsoever about someone who was only in one previous episode. Not sure whether I have it in me to watch any further episodes.

Edit; As 1 or 2 very odd reviews have upped their scores to 10/10, I have reduced my original score accordingly from 2 to 1/10. Do not be fooled by these reviewers. This episode IS the worst so far by a long way.

A genuinely heart warming, nostalgic classic....
15 March 2021
In 1986, I along with millions of others saw this beautiful film in the cinema in all it's glory. I have watched it many times since and would put it in my top 25 films of all time. The beautiful crafting, the authentic fifties music and settings, the subtle time jokes, the whimsy and genuine warmth of this movie seem to be lost on a number of reviewers here which is rather sad. This is a film for the nostalgic , for believers. Who would not want to go back to a special time and relive it even if only for a few days? Please do not be put off by some of the poor reviews this is a truly wonderful film.

Simply..... a great story and a great western
5 January 2021
I can remember seeing this in the 70s on tv and with it's photography, landscape, story, characters and soundtrack it still looks great today.

The Martian (2015)

A laughable, unbelievable story. Yet another overhyped blockbuster......
9 January 2019
It was with great anticipation that I sat down to watch The Martian, a film that had not only been called "a modern Classic" but a film that had also registered a high 8.0 rating on IMDB. My enthusiasm lasted around 15 minutes. The rest of the film was completely unbelievable, with a storyline so dull the director thought he had to intersperse 70's music to keep it alive. Matt Damon played a man who was alone on a planet millions of miles from Earth yet his character had the depth of a sparrow. I have no idea what some other notable actors were doing in this film and it looked like they didn't know either! A dreadful waste of time as was; Interstellar, Arrival and Gravity. Much better modern alternatives are Midnight Special, A Quiet Place and Minority Report.

If the Film Template is an 8 for Die Hard then this is a 6.5....
16 September 2018
Having watched a LOT of films over the years due to my age and love of cinema, I must say I was taken aback at this film. I had just endured the Alien Covenant so was slightly worried about seeing this, however apart from creaky cgi and naïve storyline it was virtually non stop action, certainly not what I was expecting. My only gripe and it relates to most modern films, is would actors please not mumble when talking, you have all apparently been trained to speak clearly so could you please do so. Thank you.

A true disappointment......
14 September 2018
Alien and Aliens were masterpieces and having watched them when they released way back in the eighties I am totally mystified and disappointed as to see how far the franchise has fallen. If I had had the misfortune to paid to see it, and as a fan I was close to doing so, I do not think I would have lasted 15 minutes. Empty, one dimensional, without humanity, warmth, humour, the list is endless.. If you are a Aliens fan please do not take any heed of the current IMDB over 6 rating. It is truly an awful film.

Simply, a classic, taut masterpiece....
27 May 2018
Having watched this crafted Hitchcock like thriller many, many times I am perplexed at it's comparatively low score on IMDB. It is a gem of a film not to be missed. Those who have not seen it please take the time to do so, you will not be disappointed.

A modern feel good classic
23 May 2018
I have always been annoyed at missing this in the cinema but have now watched it many times on dvd. This is one of those sorely under rated classic films which is almost perfect with it's warmth and beauty. It touches the heart and soul in so many ways, yet is also witty and gritty in comparing the London trader world and the laid back Provence life. Whenever you feel life getting on top of you put this dvd on, you will not be disappointed. A truly wonderful film with a eclectic soundtrack.

Compelling and exciting and so much better than what Hollywood does....
11 May 2018
Having watched a lot of Scandinavian drama I was impressed by this under rated piece of gritty film making. I do not agree with some other reviews here that this second part is underwhelming, Although it is set in the world of crime I found myself becoming attached to certain characters and being deeply moved at times by the plot lines and accompanying music. Well worth watching.

An evocative tail of a gifted, gentle soul struggling to survive.
29 April 2018
A beautifully crafted film about a genius with a gentle soul set in a time of war and recession. The sense of period is brought to life in this heart warming tale of Seraphine de Senlis. Anyone who has ever laid under a large tree as the leaves rustle in the wind or near the waters edge as the sea laps the shore, will appreciate the calm and beauty contained in this wonderful film.

Disappointment yet again....
23 January 2018
Where to start? Well if I say that the best bit of the film for me was Charles Xavier watching the classic western "Shane" on tv I think you might get the gist. Yet again a film which had rave reviews falls way short in so many areas it beggars belief and who on earth suggested Stephen Merchant....absolutely laughable. My advice is not to bother....I now have another dvd to get rid of next Christmas!

Apart from the climax it's an average film.....
20 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Having gone to see the film on the recommendation of two renowned film critics, I just had to share my review.

This film is not a classic and is nothing like or even close to the beauty, fantasy or story of Pan's Labyrinth which has been a comparison. There are other monster, dragon, fantasy films that are much better.Apart from the last 30 minutes which are admittedly very well acted, tearful and sad, most of the film is a disappointment losing it's story line and identity along the way. The child actor is good but the rest do not not engender warmth into their characters. In short it is a film that does not worthy it's current 7.8 rating.

Marshland (2014)

A future modern classic?
14 January 2017
In a time when it seems every film that released is over hyped and thus a disappointment, it is heartening when you see a film that is every bit as good as you had hoped. Marshland is is one of those films.

Most reviews here praise the photography, suspense and story line which are at times mesmeric but I also liked the setting and the feel of the film as well as the humble characterisations. I have also watched a little of True Detective which other reviewers have mentioned, there is simply no comparison as Marshland is a far better project. I am sure this will become a classic.

It is disappointing that only one poor and misguided reviewer here has lowered the films rating.
