Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Such a stinker!
I did not find anything enjoyable n the first 30m. If you did, that is great! If you did not, run! This movie is tuly awefull. 1st grade stinker with a nice American flag on top.
This disclaimer consist of mandatory words to improve on its original message. I hope this additive serves it purpose of meeting the 600 characters minimum. Longing for a well deserved goodbye I must type on for only a short while. Have a great day! Love your neighbors. Well met and till we meet again.
That said, in need of words why not ignore everything what comes next as it serves zero purpose it is only to meet ends.
Prey (2022)
You will not like it
If you read this it means you might have a better chance to not watch it. Truth to be told, you will figure it out after a couple of breaths. Taste is peculiar, so please have a blast.
X (2022)
Worked for me!
Pleasently suprised by this modern horror following the old school scripture, with a touch of italian cinema. Great casting, great editing, great sets/decors, great pace, great effects. Very enjoyable!
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
So much lore, so much detail
I feel enthralled. So much lore, so much detail. I am in awe. Never played the game but who cares. Not a big fan of the English voice actors but most definitely it is good enough. A world of magic is presented using 3d (cell shading?) techniques I always distrusted on Netflix. This is a piece of art that should not be skipped easily.
Invasion (2021)
Dull and poor acting
Story telling is slow but personal I do not mind. What irks me is the that casting was done very badly. Unlikeable characters and not a single one can act a believable emotion. Feels like watching school play. I.
The House That Jack Built (2018)
Damn
Uncomfertable, haunting, unwanted, wanted? A mixed bag of emotions for me but my respect for Lars increased, fully unexpected.
Motherland: Fort Salem (2020)
Fun for the young adult
Not so fun for the mature audience. Lots of girl drama and teen angst. For the rest a well made production with talented actors.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
Technically imperfect, but..
A very nice escape. It made me feel somewhat smaller, gentler, self aware, all at the same. Time. The formula of slight overacting pulled me in. Lovable forced witty story of a bunch of people that...
Death Machine (1994)
Such a gem!
This movie is somehow hugely underrated. I think it is a true piece of art. So many disciplines worked so well together that I feel it must be highlighted.
The first 5 minutes are simply top tier atmosphere building. Sound, camera, story board, editing. It is a well directed harmony. The viewer is invited to have a detailed look around at the details that are (by design) never superficially explained, continue to tempt me to have another viewing in the near future.
Not at my first viewing I confess, but later I started to regonise the devotion that went into making this world strangely believable and made me wonder how a director could have the long term vision to not take the viewer by the hand to point out every point of interest. Somehow everything seem to fit and likely has a back story?! The language, behaviour mechanics, clothing/armor. This is hard Sci fi! They paid extra to get the world right and for me it only became apparent when I started to zoom in.
Please enjoy and if I made you doubt your memory? Give it another try.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Grows on you
Almost stopped watching after the 1st two episodes, glad I didn't. Fits in the Star-Trek universe and look forward to season two
Soul (2020)
Masterful but embedded by personal opinion
Not a fan of of the voice actors but beyond that I see so much talent. Reminds me allot of Pixar. I like to think that great effort was spend as a form of NY homage. I liked it allot and the whole experience of being there as foreigner was a special experience. The sum of all felt very human. Thank you
The Ripper (2020)
Interesting but unpolished
The story is captivating but misses some shine and depth. It was released one month after the Ripper's death, I wonder if it is possible that in fact this is a decade old documentary that was not allowed to get published before his death, due to legalities?
Possessor (2020)
Very nice!
Solid acting, eery atmosphere, slow paced coming of age story of a stone hard assassin. Liked it allot!
Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb (2020)
Painfull to watch
I am conflicted. I am absolutely not convinced of the authenticity, I would not be surprised if everything is staged. If even parts are authentic, it is painfull to see how rough they handle the dig. I would welcome a follow up by a team of true professionals. Either on location or simply as voice over of this documentary.
Rome (2005)
Late to the show and surprised how bad it is
Its a soap! Wooden acting, unconvincing clothing, everybody is overacting. No character is believable. Scenarios feel so scripted. My guess is that shows like Vikings and GoT are now overshadwing this and have set a new standard, causing this show to age badly.
Cats & Dogs 3: Paws Unite (2020)
Movies can hurt
Insultingly not funny and sadly not the guilty pleasure I was hoping for. The voice actors are applaudable irritating.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
Starts great but quickly looses it shine
The 1st three episodes are great! Perfect balance between hard Sci-Fi, intense drama and character development. Sadly at some point the balance shifts too much to the lead child actor and our Vikings star, who proofs to be a one-trick-pony (one dimensional)
The obvious (great) pulp vibe is replaced by an underdeveloped character development and subpar acting. Feels forced in a bad way.
Tip for season 2, ask Ridley Scott to do more episodes...
Warrior Nun (2020)
Very very childish
Teen angst all the way. Text book scripting for girls coming of age. NOT for adults.
Van Helsing (2016)
Nice first two seasons
But o boy, something short-circuited fairly quickly at the beginning of season three; it became a teen girls coming of age series with rediculous girl-power all over the place. Laughable dialogues en love interests.
Sam is the sole reason I am still watching..(nearing the end of S3)
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020)
Not sure if obvious gringe is on purpose?
Almost everything is bad about this production, truly nothing feels organic. Horrible dialogs, extremely flat characters, obvious studio sets, film school quality acting. The fact that everything is so shallow gives me some doubt if it might be on purpose, something that will get explained in the last episode?
I stopped after the 4th episode, too painfull and embarrising too watch.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Better than good
I have nothing to reference to that equals or betters this omnibus of rich and warm sci fi stories. Please take a seat and dip in into a taste of sometimes well disguised hard sci fi.
Suspiria (2018)
Much better than the original
Beautiful shots, great music, solid action and perfect (slow) pace. Sucks you in.
Titans (2018)
(teen) titans
Started off well enough but quickly manifests itself as a teenage drama. Simplistic story development and focused on teen angst and fantasy. All perfectly fine but understand it is targeting a specific audience. Not for adults
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Short attention span review
Talanted actors, beautiful cinematography, pacing is sometimes a bit too fast but all in all a very respectful sequel. I watched the directors cut, I recommend you do the same. Enjoy!
It Chapter Two (2019)
Short attention span review
Chapter two surprised me, everything worked this time, I almost skipped watching it (chapter one felt forced and soulless) . Obvious differences: story, pacing, camera work, sound works!, editing, acting. Lots of cgi, but sourced by talent. Professionally balanced humor/horror. Chapter one I gave a 5+. This one deserves a 8+. Respect for the smooth transition of ch.1 shallow characters to likeable and interesting individuals.
I liked this one.
