Should have been Back for More
24 May 2016
This is one of the funniest shows I've seen for some time, witty dialogue, two great lead comedy actors in Kelsey Grammar, and the gorgeous Patricia Heaton, with a good supporting cast. Unlike some, I found every one of the 17 completed episodes to be very enjoyable, thought Grammar and Heaton had great chemistry together, and the situations were always funny. Unfortunately, network executives don't always make wise decisions, and they stuffed up big time in canceling this show, that due to the writers strike, didn't even complete the first season. They didn't give it a chance, and therefore lost a potential classic. Thank God they've released it on a nice little DVD set, and we can at least enjoy the 17 episodes over and over. I for one would love to see Kelsey & Patricia teamed again in the future. Many far inferior shows to this one have gone on year after year!

The REAL Wild West
19 February 2016
I remember seeing this series on Australian TV many years ago, and thought it was marvelous, right up there with the great Ken Burns version of The West. There have been many far lesser documentaries on the subject come along since, and I can't work out why this one has been so completely neglected as far as a DVD release is concerned? This one contained many authentic photographs that I've never seen in any of the others, and the excellent commentary by the great Jack Lemmon brings it all together in a most satisfying and enjoyable way! I for one, look forward to the day when it becomes available, and I can enjoy it all over again!

Sugarfoot (1957–1961)

'Sugarfoot' a honey of a show!
9 February 2016
There's no doubt Warner Brothers were the King of TV westerns in the late 50's to early 60's. My two favorites in the hour format were 'Cheyenne' and 'Sugarfoot'. Will Hutchins was a handsome, innocent looking 'boy next door' type who didn't fit the usual mold of tough westerner, and that's what fooled people, especially the baddies, because when he had to , he could out draw and out punch with the best of them! Therein lies the charm of this show, and Will Hutchins pulled it all off with great skill. He was a cowboy we could relate to! Pity he wasn't given more chances later, he could have played the type of roles that James Stewart, Robert Cummings or Fred MacMurray used to in their heydays! But at least, thanks to DVD's and the grace of Warner Brothers, he'll forever be Tom Brewster, the beloved 'Sugarfoot' in 69 little movies! Also had one of the best theme songs too! By the way, I may be the only one, but I also loved 'The Alaskans'. Hope they put that onto DVD as well!

Tarzan for the big boys
3 February 2016
I always thought that 'Tarzan's Greatest Adventure' was the first Tarzan film made for the grown ups! Filmed on location, widescreen and Technicolor and decent production values, it's a great stand alone adventure film, with Scott as an articulate King of the jungle leading a top notch cast including the young pre James Bond Sean Connery putting in a good turn as one of the villains! No Jane, Cheetah's left in the tree house, so Tarzan can get on with it! And the result is one of, if not the most thrilling Tarzan film of them all! Don't get me wrong, I loved Johnny, Lex, Bruce Bennett and Buster Crabbe, but this is the film that takes the genre to a whole new level!

New Tricks (2003–2015)
A Premature Burial...........
19 December 2015
Watched the final ever episode of 'New Tricks' on Melbourne's ABC here last night, 19,12,2015. A decent episode, and nice finish, but a bad, bad call by the BBC. This show still had a good 3 or 4 seasons left in it, just as the new crew get settled in, they pull the rug from under them! And I had grown to like them, yes, they're different from the originals, and so they should be. Unlike some reviewers, Nicholas Lyndhurst was my favorite, quietly spoken, and just quirky enough to make him interesting, and, big enough to handle any rough stuff if required! I wish they'd kept his daughter and cat in it though! All the others were good too, doesn't make sense to cancel a program that was clearly still a ratings winner? I feel it'll be a long time before the BBC comes up with anything as good as 'New Tricks'! A big thank you to the production crew and all the cast members, new and old, for giving us one of the best shows ever! You'll be missed!

99% life like
5 December 2015
I must admit I'd never heard of Tintin, probably too old? But I caught this film on television and loved the look of it! For the first couple of minutes I even thought it was live actors, it looked so life like, even though some of the characters looked a bit caricaturist? It had a great look all the way through it, and I couldn't help but wonder that with this sort of technology, how long before they can bring some of the old legendary stars back to 'life'? Imagine new films starring the likes of Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Errol Flynn, Cary Grant and so forth? Mindboggling for sure, but it seems the technology is almost at that point! I imagine the thing probably preventing someone trying is the legalities of it all? But, after seeing this film, it's fascinating to dream about what could be just around the corner? And a Spielberg or Jackson could do it!

Quite a Good Secret
5 December 2015
Having read all the negative and Luke warm reviews, it was with some trepidation that I we went to see this film, now I haven't seen the Argentine original, but I did enjoy this one! Kept my interest the whole time, all the leads were strong and believable, never a big Julia Roberts fan, she was outstanding in this, I certainly don't agree with the reviewers that said Nicole Kidman was miscast, I thought she was excellent, you don't get to be an A grade Academy Award winner by being a bad actress! Perhaps it's not as good as the original are they ever? But it stands on it's own, and would be in my top ten for this year ,not that it has a lot to beat? Far as I could tell, everyone in the theater enjoyed it! Hey! It's a movie, not brain surgery!

The Bob Cummings Show (1955–1959)

Vintage Fun
6 June 2015
Robert Cummings was a handsome movie star of the late 1930's through to the early 50's appearing in all sorts of roles, with some of the screens biggest female co-stars, and in some big films like 'Kings Row', 'Dial M For Murder', 'The Lost Moment' etc. He was one of the first big screen stars to go into television, and finally became a 'Superstar' of that medium, his forte was always comedy, and he could play it with the best of them. Billing himself as just Bob Cummings from 'The Bob Cummings Show' on, as the aforementioned reviews say, it was a trailblazer in many ways for it's time, and a pity to date, it's never been released officially as a series on DVD. To me, he was even funnier in his very first series, 'My Hero' where he played a more 'bumbling' character, which he could do with great finesse, I just wish there was someone as good at playing comedy today!
