Pieces of a Woman (2020)
So messy and illogical
This film is just a mess without good logic for the story.
The scene of childbirth was just a pain to watch, really. The situation looked so disorganised and unprepared that I doubt if they've taken any childbirth class. They were acting like Jen Barber tried to put her dream-shoes on in The IT crowd, which was a comedy! And then came the midwife, acting fairly professional, monitoring stuff, suggesting they go to hospital, et voilà: they wanted to blame her when the child died!
And the scenes of Martha after losing her baby were just not understandable. Sometimes quasi sad, sometimes with a sudden grin, but anyway, her mother was determined to take everything under control in her own favour. Does this family just have too much money and time?
Somehow the mother teamed up with Sean. Somehow Sean slept with the attorney (is it making fun of the legal system??). Somehow the mother still hated Sean so much that she paid him for having him disappear. Somehow Sean really left. Somehow Martha went to the court, not showing her strength, but blaming her midwife. Somehow Martha loved her mother again. Why why why???
If someone has noticed, Sean was on the right-hand side of Martha when the baby came while he was making the photos. And Martha got the photos magically made from her left-hand side?
Another bug: Martha was changing her clothes all the time on the same day with her bag looking obviously too empty to carry so many pieces?
I absolutely admire Vanessa Kirby, even in this movie. But the story just isn't good.
Ke zai ni xin di de ming zi (2020)
A beautiful movie from Taiwan
The movie is so beautiful and touching. As they passed the law for the same-gender marriage, I always thought they've been fairly open and "tolerating" in Taiwan all the time. Only until this movie shows us how it was just less than half a century ago. The movie has done a brilliant job at showing how the two boys loved each other and how they had to hide this feeling from the outside world. How can one blame Birdy when he tried to "correct" and protect Jia Han for homosexuality was still a sin at that time? I like the ending very much though.
Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015)
An inspiring film but bad as a documentary
I think this film is quite inspiring for those who are interested in or want to try minimalism themselves. The questions that are asked several times in the film are indeed important in our life: what are really important to us? Do we really need this and that? After watching it, I think quite a few would like to do something to be more minimalist.
BUT as a documentary, this is a true disappointment. Or to say, it is rather an advertisement for the book authors and the mini house designers. Regarding the narrative of the book tour, I see no necessary relevance to the concept of minimalism. It was more like a biography of a bestseller. At this point, it has differed from the original topic: minimalism.
Besides, I am not a huge fan of the idea that minimalism is the solution of a problematic life. But unfortunately, the film was implying this. Everybody had a bit problem in the life. Then they became minimalists and the problems went away. It is a very dangerous signal. Because minimalism is not THE SOLUTION to the problems, which do not go away automatically if we become a minimalist. It is only a tool to help us concentrate on our problems and fight for/against them.
Not everybody can/should become an author and write about their minimalist life, or leave their carrier behind and go travelling the whole world (why is that minimalist anyway?). But how the concept helps in the normal life, especially in the metropolises, it is actually an interesting part but unfortunately not been given that much notice in this film.
Last but not the least, this film is actually NOT THAT OBJECTIVE about minimalism. It is more or less an advertisement for this concept, or this life style. It kept showing us how the minimalists live and how the problems in their lives are solved somehow. This is fairly ironic since it is what was criticised once in the movie: to sell the dream to live a perfect life. But there is no perfect life, and minimalism is definitely not a direct solution to any of our problems.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
The conflicts between the cultures
I think this movie is more or less for those living in the western countries while having (a part of) the family in Asia. The plots are pretty much how the life is in Asian traditional families and you can see it in loads of series and movies in China. As someone from China but living in Germany, I know and resent such life quite a bit. This is how it has been in Asia, especially among the elder generations. I'm happy that this movie is "international" and the main characters are not doing what one normally sees in a typical Asian scene: the man stays for the family and regrets, like what I've seen too in the Medici series etc. For many of those from western countries without Asian immigration background, those scenes might be ridiculous and unbelievable, but I think this movie has done a fairly nice job at describing this bit. Hopefully it will get better in the Asian families.
Paranoid (2016)
So surprised that some users here even defence this series
This series is an absolute nightmare. At the beginning it looks fairly normal, but if you watch it further, it just gets more and more ridiculous and annoying.
No main roles are normal or professional. Alec went to interview someone who had an affair with his mother. Nina talked about his pregnancy right before they got out of the car in order to find the suspect. Bobby kept calling his "lover" when he was away investigating a serious case, which he sweared with fully ambitions to solve. Every time when you want to see how the case can be solved, they just explode because of their emotions. They just cannot concentrate on their job when they are actually at work, can they?
And the stereotypes, like all the Germans are weirdos, and all Americans are stupid and addicted to alcohol and drugs? I do not buy this, thank you very much.
Every single person cannot think properly and every single minute of watching this series is torturous. So I had to stop at the 5th episode to save my time and I hope I could also save the time of others if one happens to read this.
Wir sind die Welle (2019)
Too naive
I really if there's any logics behind this series.. everyone can change from one character to another just if the directors want it to be, and they don't have their principle, at all. And the whole storyline had so many bugs. I mean, don't the filmmakers of this series somehow live in the real world? Even a bit?
Sex Education (2019)
Don't really get the ending
I'm still not getting it why Eric still went to the music department when he got back after the suspension. And that kind of sex between Adam and him was just weird and out of nowhere. And Adam, I mean, can't he just actually grow up? After all the stuffs he was still being a d***head in front of other students and being a coward in front of his father. What is actually wrong with him? And how come did Otis actually turn from Maeve to Ola? Was Ola sort of practice for him or what? And the last point is, I really hate the headmaster. He's so arrogant and feelingless, and an a**hole. Most parts of the first season was cool and funny though, just a bit disappointed about the ending.
Humans: Episode 6 (2018)
What's wrong with Laura???
Why is Laura suddenly this weak and hypocrite after so many things that she has done??? Or does the writer just want to show us that all human kinds are so weak and don't actually believe in equality??? I don't understand it anymore.
