Line of Duty: Episode #6.2 (2021)
Disconnected from Last Season
S6E1 started with characters out of place or transferred. One storyline starts with the dissolution of a relationship we got a hint of but we were never vested in. Again, picking up on storylines that we have to assume were ongoing and not told at the start of season 6 makes it all a bit jumbled. Season 5 was like a rollercoaster starting at a slow climb for 5 episodes with the ending feeling like an abrupt drop of the roller coaster that has you hanging on the edge till the end. This season is disjointed. I'm not sure what's left to uncover. Well there's the new bent officer that has made an appearance and if there were 4 at the top, there's one senior officer that's being controlled by organized crime. We don't know if that's DCI Hastings.
Silent Witness: Familiar Faces - Part 2 (2023)
Lousy choreography of chases
Wow, the show is taking a serious turn for the worst. A cop that does stupid crap like watching everyone else give chase while she goes alone to get locked in a freezer? She failed to give chase to a kid several times. What is she, out of shape? Is the actress and noble to run? Then there's a scene where she is conveniently tacked to stop from getting to a kid with kidney failure!!! Really?
Jacks momentary glimpses at other characters are annoying. Give him lines rather than sidelong glances! When the show first started, it was about evidence based on the dead person. Now the show has forensic scientists acting as detectives. It has progressed more and more that way as the seasons went forward. Bring the show back in line with its origins.
The Bay (2019)
Season one and two...
We were just getting settled into a new show. It starts off with a surprising relationship that throws a wrench into any investigation. There are many twists and turns and we are enjoying it until one of the main characters gets killed off and then the following season we find one of the other leads has decided to call it quits. So season 3 we start over with a new FLO. It's just disappointing to start binging a show and then they pull the rug out from under you. But, I guess we'll see where it goes. Reading between the lines, it seems like Morven was not happy the show killed off her fellow detective and decided to leave.
I cite the following:
She was also full of praise for her co-star and friend Taheen Modak after he left the series, writing: "Day one til the end. So honoured to have spent my two seasons on The Bay with this guy, from fresh out of college to smashing it like an old pro. My partner, my pal, this big souled lil king. They should never have let you go, but that's for another day. Now you get to go build your kingdom -and I'm right behind you pal. We did it."
Three Pines (2022)
Three Pines nails it
Three Pines is a series of great stories with one underlying plot. That underlying plot is similar to Wind River that highlights the fact that missing Native American women disappear every year without cause or any suspects. The other plots are crime stories where Molina leads a cast of detectives solving these cases. Some answers are obvious to the viewer and some are a complete surprise and sometimes the pace is rapid and sometimes it's slow. The last two episodes send the message that the police and Gamache's best friend are tied to the disappearance of Two Rivers (the underlying plot) when he is told 'You need to let it go and take a break from that case. It's a dead end.' And again when the guy he hands the evidence over to says he'll take care of it, go back to Three Pines and solve that case. It's then I knew this would end in a cliff hanger. Good news... I'm anxious to see another season.
Mike & Molly (2010)
Wish there were more episodes!
Mike and Molly got off to a slow start but by episode 3 had me in tears. The show strikes a great balance between two people who found each other making their way to marriage and all the problems associated with getting there. The show was cancelled due to some issue with WB contracts but could have gone on of it wasn't for that. Mike and Molly have a rather unusual situation where the supporting cast has garnered some talent that just keeps giving. Joyce, Molly's mom, comes up with one liners that can put you on the floor laughing. She has good company with Carl, Mikes police partner and last but not the least Peggy, Mikes mom. Some of the things that come out of her mouth, well, let's just say don't be drinking anything lest it come out of your nose!! Joyce's love interest, Vincent, gets into situations (the episode with his back going out) that only he can get out of and is as funny as some of the best moments in other comedies I have seen. The show was fantastic in every sense and I miss seeing what or where else this could have gone. It's too bad it was cancelled prematurely. They were able to give it a great ending so there's that.
Night Court (2023)
From Big Bang to Big Bomb
My review is like most others. I remember laughing, a lot, with the original Night Court and I've barely got one giggle out of 5 episodes in spite of the laugh tracks added. Five episodes is usually a good indicator for me as to whether or not the show is going to make it. If I had stuck with my rule, I wouldn't have kept watching 2 Broke Girls until it went into syndication! That was like watching a train wreck. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. The actors here aren't the problem. John and Melissa are known commodities, but they seem to be trying too hard. The initial episodes seemed to linger too long with Abby trying to get Dan back to work. As we moved ever so slowly forward, the storyline is not engaging and it's like we keep waiting after every line for the crowd to break up laughing! Only at the end of episode 5, when Abby gets upset, do we see a glimpse of what made Bernadette so adorable in Big Bang. However, I think I'm over it and I'm going to save myself the pain of watching yet another 2 Broke Girls die a horrible death.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
This is what teenagers do?!
So- I thought this was going to be another WB show that was meant for kids trying to find their way to adulthood, but it's much more. The writing is clever and the actors, especially the younger ones, are so incredibly talented I thought I was watching a combined version of SMASH and GLEE! The storylines cover everything from depression, self harming, sexuality, alcoholism and fitting in and the lengths a single mother would go through to take care of her kids including murder. That aside, there is running dialog where you might find yourself yelling at a character to just shut up! How they can remember these run on lines (think run on sentences in English class?) and spew them out so quickly and for so long without coming up for air- it truly goes to the level of talent of these younger actors! Incredible talent in not just one, but almost all of them. They sing, dance, act and play instruments and whether they truly can or if they picked it up for the show doesn't matter as the work is superb. I really wanted to stop watching after 2-3 episodes but it's a show that weaves many aspects of growing up and being adults that doesn't make you feel like your being preached to but are enjoying a good story. I'm only 5 episodes into season 2 and I look forward to seeing to the end.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Back and forth
OMG, is it real or is it memorex? With the back and forth in time and dreams/ reality the viewer is overwhelmed trying to keep up with what's going on. It's absolutely ridiculous. There may have been a good story here but around the 4th episode I decided this just stinks. The cast is amazing, but I feel the time reality fantasy could have been done much better. There are way too many ghosts running around and it's hard to decipher who is alive. The love between the gardener and the au pair seemed forced. I felt it was something Hollywood just feels obligated to throw in whenever possible. I'm not sure it was at all needed or that the gardener could have been male. But Hollywood has an agenda. Hill House was waaaay better than this.
The Recruit (2022)
The Office meets the Black List
I'm not sure if I care for it or not. Maybe because I am tired of seeing CIA shows where they hate each other. From Bourne to the Black List to Homeland. It's bad enough when you have to fight the enemy, but if agencies keep secrets amongst themselves to get ahead in said agency, I'm surprised we win any wars OR Hollywood has crappy advisors for the show. This thing is comical in some ways and the dialogue seems forced and actually 'sounds' made up in other ways, like on the fly, just to fill in time to make the show longer. I'm not sure why a prisoner would wear cuffs in prison at the phone?!! I'm on episode 2. I'll give it one more to see how it goes... but I'm not hopeful.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
Hollywood should stay away from the airline industry!
Unrealistic storyline. Complete crap. Flashbacks are annoying enough when they are useful but using them ALL the time to tell the story is beyond stupid. Flight attendants don't work this way and if they drank alcohol on duty or showed up drunk they would be immediately fired and possibly imprisoned. I'm only watching the rest of the season because there isn't crap on any more worth watching. The ONLY reason I can imagine anyone wanting to at least watch the first episode is because of Kaley's work on BBT. Too many storylines going in different directions and the likelihood that so much corruption in one persons life is unbelievable. Don't get me wrong the acting in season one is good, but the writers need to be fired.
The White Lotus (2021)
Is it a comedy or a joke?
This show feels like something they had to do to keep their insurance through the Screen Actors Guild. The plots are ridiculous and at first it felt like a return to Fantasy Island, but turned into something I still can't describe. A newlywed spends more time with the host than with his new wife, a hotel trainee has a baby on day one and two sisters are 'the mean girls'. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your life watching this show. The acting feels forced, like the storyline! And maybe it's just me, but lately most of the dialogue is drown out by the music. I mean who did the final cut and let that get by?
In the Dark: No Cane Do (2022)
Jumped the shark
The chief of police is investigating crimes (yeah that happens!) Felix steals a car and robs that persons house to get Murphy's bail then runs into an old fried that happens to be the niece of the guy he's trying to steal from?
Josh's obsession for Murphy gets him to be a voyeur now that he is part of the police force! Really?
Mimi Kennedy is the best reason for continuing to watch the show. Her character fits beautifully into the show and it's great to see her on screen after Mom finished.
How stupid can the writers get? What the hell? It just gets dumber and dumber from here on.
If the show doesn't get renewed, it's because of plots like this.
Game of Thrones (2011)
Brilliant- Start to Finish
This was one of the top Science fiction pieces of work I have ever seen. From the very beginning to the very last it was exceptionally written , Well performed and well orchestrated. The entire crew from the first until the last season deserves a round of applause for the magic of Westeros and all the kingdoms.
Many say the last season was badly done. I say it ended right where it should have. I couldn't have come up with anything better. BRAVO.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Missing?
Great storyline and well told. The series credits at the end were missing someone! Anyone else notice Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson) was not listed in the credits anywhere?!!
Endeavour: Terminus (2021)
Murder on the Orient Express?
First of all, 3 episodes does NOT make a season. I have loved this series from the start. The stories have been exceptionally written for the most part, but I have to agree with Geoff-Spurr's review. I thought Wins remark and her reaction about Sam towards Fred was completely out of nowhere! Even my wife looked at me and said where is this coming from? Her anger came from nowhere. There was no resolution to that part of the story.
Sean Rigby's weight loss was the biggest surprise of the season. He looks like he could run down anyone in the snow!
I have never seen Inspector Morse, so this prequel is all new to me. I don't know if Joan and Endeavor get together or not as we had high hopes, but the relationship between her and Jim Strange seems to be in bloom.
All in all, this ending felt more like Murder on the Orient Express where everyone was involved in the killing.
The twist with Endeavor being on the bus was a nice touch and nicely done.
A problem when shows you love are done so far apart is you forget why some characters are having issues. It took awhile to figure out (remember) why Endeavor was drinking so heavily. Because we forgot what happened last season!!
I miss the days when a series would go through 22 episodes, fully developing a character and the next season would start 2-3 months later.
So it is with tv these days. For the record, I hate that.
They could have done season 9 as part of season 8 and released it all together and been done, but now, I'll be lucky to remember Endeavor has a drinking problem when season 9 returns.
Dune (2021)
I'll never get those 2 hours and 36 minutes back!
I never read the book. I went into this knowing nothing about it. I just kept telling myself- that somewhere along the way this has to get better and start moving. It felt like more than 2 1/2 hours worth of a snooze. If I had to read the book- I probably would never have finished it. Obviously, the production, scenery and special effects were outstanding. I'm sure it was important to the story. Nevertheless, this was about the longest, most boring production I've ever seen in my life yet I absolutely love the actors in it. Rebecca Ferguson is pretty much the only reason I tuned in. She was fantastic in The White Queen, Mission Impossible etc... It's not that the actors were bad- it just like there was not much movement to the show. They definitely could've shorten this whole thing up into an hour and a half or maybe did part one and part two in the 2 1/2 hours it took to sit through the first part. Is it worth watching? Yes if there's absolutely nothing else available to watch go ahead. Otherwise, I would wait until part two comes out so that maybe you can tie the story together and binge watch them at home. Maybe then you might enjoy the story. I have no idea why it's up for so many awards. Other than the special effects, there is nothing special here.
Reacher (2022)
Reacher... An accurate portrayal. Finally.
I think Lee Child can be proud of this version and I'm hopeful that the entire series remains true to the books for a few reasons. They're exceptionally well written. Is there one or two things wrong with the Hollywood version well yes. No one takes a beating with a crow bar like Reacher did and come out of it like that.
I'm extremely pleased. I predict Jack reacher novels will start selling like hotcakes and if I was smart I would invest in thrift shops that sell clothes. I predict an uptick in sales!
Trash Truck (2020)
What timing!
Not only is this cartoon well written, but it debuted at a time when my granddaughter noticed the 'Trash Truck' outside! She runs around yelling trash truck, trash truck. When outside, the driver noticed her interest, so when he comes by he stops and raises the bin, dumping everything into the truck! She loves it!
Then when they want trash truck to fly they go to an airport and talk to a pilot. My granddaughter knows her grandpa flies planes and she said papa fly!
For us, the timing of this debut was fantastic!
Jack Ryan: Cargo (2019)
Reality versus fiction and even the fiction is bad!
Reality versus fiction and even the fiction is bad!
Look, it's a show about the CIA. And I understand that sometimes you have to develop lots. But really, discussing top secret classified Intel at a lunch in a restaurant? Then having JAX sleepover friend discover classified documents just laying on his desk? It makes me wonder are there any technical advisers to the show! I have handled classified information in my day and trust me it doesn't work this way. This is almost as bad as having a guy who remotely controlled pilot drones going pay a family in the first season for destroying people with his winnings from a casino. I thought that season jumped the shark there and now they continue with this crap. Fire the writers and start over!
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Good Storyline, but
They sure know how to recycle actors! I know it's sci-fi but some of the story in season 2 feels like a long version of "The Search for Spock" which was a real snooze.
Wu Assassins (2019)
Qu Assassin should be assassinated
The first few episodes were laughable with martial arts reminiscent of earlier films. Add in some special effects and Earth, Wind and Fire (No not the band) and you have a plot. If you start watching knowing it's a fantasy genre, you're good to go. Otherwise dodging bullets, black belt or not, will get you to fall in line pretty quick. The one saving grace is Katheryn Winnick, whose real martial arts talents are put to good use in an otherwise questionable storyline. Problem is, it's like a train wreck. I can't stop watching to see who wins... or how!
The Good Fight (2017)
Great cast with anti Trump storylines.
Interesting show, laced with anti Trump stories and stupid cartoons. If you're in a liberal mood, feel free to indulge. The cartoons need to go. It's not Saturday morning.
