Chelsea (2016)
Okay concept... Terrible host.
I have to say that I don't hate that show. I like the concept, I liked most of the guests and some of the topics. It is a show you watch if you want to waste some time. However, what really distracts from the show is the terrible host. I know some people like her and everyone has a different taste but in my opinion she is disrespectful, unfunny and unlikable. She thinks that her opinion is the only one that matters and that anyone that disagrees with her is stupid. This makes her come across as very arrogant. This would be " okay" if she was funny! Her jokes are old and her delivery is poor. I started the show not knowing who she was and had to google her because I wanted to find out, why Netflix would hire such a unlikeable person?
I think get rid of her, get a new fresh face and reboot this show with a different host. There are a lot of talented female comedians out there that can do a better job.
The Guest House (2012)
Sometimes a good idea isn't enough
So this love story happens over a weekend. I mean there is nothing wrong with a story about love at first sight but this just felt really forced. So the browned haired woman( can't remember her name) moved into her bosses'guest house and immediately starts to have really private conversations with her bosses's daughter, the blond hair goth girl( again cannot recall her name). Not only that, she also showers in front of her. This in itself would be inappropriate but okay.....
Then they film each other for hours with Canon hand-held cameras. Which could have been a nice idea and a creative way to save money, if it was done in a better way. But they just keep talking and talking, i think they told the actors to just improvise. This only works, if you have really good actors( will come back to this later).
Then they have sex but they way they have sex is the funniest part of the whole movie. They are portraying this " passionate love making" but both of them constantly make sure, that you cannot see their nipples. Followed by more sex and a hilarious scene with the ex boyfriend.
Later they go to concert and i wonder if the people that made this movie, have ever been to a concert. The audience sites down listens, nod( because they approve of this great music!!) and only once the music stop, will they applause and continue talking. Rock n'Roll!!!They get a tattoo and the blond goth girl that already has a Tattoo ask, if it hurts. She later sings a terrible song, that goes on for hours .Oh yeah and after that great and necessary song, they have sex.
The dad comes back and goes into the guesthouse to surprise the brown hair girl with a breakfast and here is the shocking twist, the dad and the brown hair girl had a one night stand! What? What? This makes no sense! A) You are not suspicious at all that ONS lets you work for his company and that he lets you life in his guesthouse which is on his property B) okay let's imagine that the brown hair girl is really naive, then why don't you try to keep a distance from his daughter? She never tried to keep a distance. She is the one showering in front of her, she is the one telling her that she think is cute. You never notices that she was in a moral dilemma C) let's even ignore this fact and imagine that the brown hair lady forgot about everything that happened.
The dad still knows. He is a successful business man so he needs to be good in planning. So he hired his ONS let her live in his guesthouse which is on the property because he thinks that he still has a shoot with her. While a little over the top, still somehow makes sense. What dosen't make sense is, that he goes on a business trip when she arrives. Why didn't't he invite her to the business trip. He is more likely to hit that in a hotel room then in house with his daughter around. I mean yeah might have been strange, but not as strange as having your new employee spend a weekend with your 18 year old daughter. Especially if you want to seduce her!!
That story makes no logical sense, the characters motivation even less. Especially as most of it, happens over a weekend.
Acting:
Boyfriend: I don't know if he was suppose to have such a poor line delivery and over the top acting or if this was just poor acting. If it was on purpose, kudos to the actor. You really succeeded in pretending to be a terrible character.
Blond Goth Girl: She was better then the brown hair girl but that is not saying a lot. i think that this is what 50 year old people think a teenager behaves like. Furthermore, i don't want to discourage anyone but maybe you shouldn't' consider a career in singing and/ or acting.
Brown Hair Girl:
Don't look directly at the the camera!! So many times when she was suppose to be looking at the her partner, she is looking directly at the camera. Like staring at it. Also when she had her dramatic scene at the end( the one you can see her nipples), at least try to cry, if you can't then hide your face in your hands so it looks as if you are crying. Anything besides what she did.
Dad:
Just terrible
Camera
I am not a big expert on Camera work. I don't care if people use certain angles, zoom out or in too much but even i notices that the camera work sucked. In the beginning it looks okay but sometimes it looks like someone was filming it on their own home video camera. This excludes the scenes, where the two ladies were filming each other. Especially the shower scene is shot in a really wired angle. It appears that the two woman were in two different rooms. They could have shot the scene in two different locations which is fine if the scene wasn't't suppose to take place in the same room to build erotic tension.
So in conclusion, this movie isn't good and i am not going to give it a pass because it is a lGBT movie and because of the low budget.A low budget has no impact on the plot or the acting. The movie had potential but sometimes a good idea isn't enough.
PS: You do see nipples 10 minutes before the end.
Almost Adults (2016)
not sure if there was enough material for a movie
May Contain Spoilers.
First let me say, that i have no idea, who made this movie. If they are on youtube, if they had a Kickstarter page, etc. I just like watching independent movies on Netflix. I saw this one and as there are not a lot of Lesbian movies, i decided to give it a go.
it felt more like a 90 min Degrassi Episode. I felt that there was not enough material, the " conflict" wasn't't big enough to cover a 90 minute movie. But besides that, they still managed to have underdeveloped characters and story lines.
I think that the movie started strong but got worse and worse as they noticed, that they don't have a plot. You can see it in the acting as well, in the beginning, the relationship between the two girls was sweet and very believable. Then both of them just became really selfish and not relatable. I wouldn't be friends with either of them. I think this is reflected in the actors' performance as well. They both started of solid but you could see, that when the quality of the script declined, so did the quality of the acting.
Last 20 minutes i was quite tempted to skip to the end.
I think that the leads were fine but needed better material to work with.
My Awkward Sexual Adventure (2012)
I expected more
may contain spoilers.
So i found this one on Netflix. This is what i expected: An R Rated Comedy with lot of adult jokes and awkward sex scenes.
They were some sex scenes and adult jokes, but not enough to justify this title. Like if you read this title you would think, that you see the main dude having plenty of awkward sex with different people but that is not really happening. I mean he gets " massage" and there is some SM and oral sex scenes but calling it sexual adventures is a little far fetched.
Also some of the acting, especially from the main dude's best friend and his girlfriend was just terrible.
I was not expecting a masterpiece. I can accept that the plot was a little silly, I can accept that the ending was cheesy and i can accept that there will be some cringeworthy scenes but there is one thing that a movie like this shouldn't't't be, boring. Most of the time i was just bored, wanting for this sexual adventure to start.
So i cannot recommend this movie. The two leads are okay but that's it. There are much better adult comedies out there.
The L Word (2004)
This review will contain spoilers. So spoiler
Spoilers!!
The first season dosen't start off that bad. Yeah that whole story we are linked because of sex becomes really old after two episodes ( unfortunately that idea is continued throughout several seasons and drives some major plot points) it is not such a great theory and i really do not understand the big deal about it , but it has some good stories such as one character been in the closet because of her career, another one been unfaithful and another one cheating on her fiancé.
Season 2-3 improved on the characters and had some really good and memorable story lines The only thing that annoyed me quite a bit was that stupid licking song which you noticed, the actors even felt uncomfortable with.
The problem in my opinion occurred with season 4. The new character introduced, did not leave an impression on me ( at least not positive)and i felt most of them were note likable. that stupid movie plot. The wasted new transgender character. This could have been the chance for the series to explore real transgender issues and it started off well, but the actress/ actor( i don't know how they identify) can't act and has no charisma. This could have been one of the most liked and unique characters. Also the story line that they gave the character. WTF. That is what i mean with tone, they want the audience to take LGBT issues seriously. Mentioning important issues such as " don't ask, don't tell" and then they give the other characters really unrealistic stories. If anyone argues, that this is a realistic storyline, find me one person that was female lesbian, then started her transition to become a man and got accidentally pregnant by their boyfriend. I did some research and could find no-one, maybe there are one or two people out there that experienced that exact same situation, but this is not at all relatable to the audience.
Then the character Shane, don't get me started on Shane. Seriously, everyone, everyone, literally everyone want to have sex with her, although she looks like a homeless junkie. Woman that get married want to have sex with her/ have sex with her and of course the mother and bridesmaids as well. Not only dose she have sex with them, no, no. She is apparently sooo amazing, that these women literally chase after her / fight for her on the day of the weeding
Now i know that some might argue that this is the unique humour of this show, but again, TONE because at the same moment, you have a soldier losing her job because she is gay. Those two things don't match
Finally the thing that annoyed me the most is the ending. Not because it is ambiguous but the reason for why it is ambiguous. The reason is that they wanted to have spin off and therefore purposely did not expose who killed jenny so people need to watch the new series. that itself would have been excusable, if they did not start season with showing jenny's dead!!
So you spend the whole season wanting to find out why she died and this is the ending you get And to really p you off, they have all the main characters walk on screen smiling. Like " ha ha we just wasted hours of your life". I mean you can have spin off and still have a good ending to your show!
All of that said, i think, that netflix should maybe do like reboot of the show but have more realistic story lines, have more relatable characters.. Maybe have it set in a different time period, deal more with the religious aspect .I think that something could be done with this concept .
Ben & Arthur (2002)
Now this is what I call a bad movie
This movie is truly awful. When one of the reviewers wrote that this film was shot with a Nokia 3200. I thought that this was joke but after watching it, I wouldn't be surprise. I know that it is more than 12 years old and technology has improved a lot, but even with my really cheap Chinese smart phone I could film a better movie then this. The editing is terrible, the sound is terrible, the acting is terrible (the actor that played Ben was okay) the script is terrible, the story is terrible and our "hero" Arthur is just so annoying.
However, I would still recommend that you watch this movie, as it is really funny. It is so bad its good material. Also if you want to become a filmmaker, this is an example of how not to do it.
