The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008)
"Raise your hand if you've ever been personally victimized by a tv show"
Easily the worst tv show I've ever seen in my life and I watch a lot of tv. Where to begin? The plot had potential at the beginning but then you quickly realize it's like seeing water in a desert- there is no hope. Amy is so easy to hate. At first, you almost feel bad for her because of what she's going through but trust me- you quickly get over it. She's extremely annoying, always feeling entitled, and treats everybody close to her like crap. Even Ricky, (the guy who got her pregnant) who is so easy to hate in the beginning. Speaking of Ricky, his character development is truly a roller coaster. In the beginning, he plays the typical, "Guy everybody wants to sleep with" or whatever and then he quickly transforms into this loving and caring dad. And then there's Ben who literally goes on the same destructive path as Amy. He's so sweet in the beginning it's kind of sickening and then he turns into such a horrible guy. Adrian is your typical mean girl who sleeps with everybody. Amy's friends are literally so irrelevant and shouldn't even be in the show. Grace is a train wreck. One minute she doesn't want to have sex and the next minute she's throwing herself at her boyfriend. Speaking of which, this show almost felt like it was making fun of Christianity at some point with the way Grace lived her life and how everyone else reacted to her choices. Grace even convinces herself that she's a gay at one point, then realizes she isn't. I just felt like whoever wrote her character was trying to make her seem "interesting" and just made her as annoying as Amy. Amy's mom or Molly Ringwald should not have even been in this show. Not because she's bad but because why should a legend like herself be on such a low budget crappy teen show like this. I feel sorry for her. Her presence was
the only great thing about this show.
I can't believe I watched this entire series. I start a lot of tv shows and never finish them, so I tried to "thug it out" with this one and finish. I can't believe this trash has awards. I could easily right a better plot line and script, while sitting on the toilet. And for that- if anyone truly cares, is why I give this show "1" star.

The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom (2011)
"A lot of unnecessary parts, but very moving altogether."
A touching movie with a lot of drama and emotions. A lot of unnecessary parts, but very moving altogether. The editor really deserved to win an award for the editing done in this. The furniture and clothing of the actors definitely reflect the sixties. Which is surprising, because not many movies do such a good job of doing so. You can really feel the pain and emotions of this, not just by the actions and lines of the actors, but also by the lighting and certain scenes shown in the movie. It altogether has a good message about knowing that it doesn't matter where you've come from, but that you will always have a family. It was even more inspirational when Dolly Parton herself responded to the little girl's letter, giving her a little ray of hope.
Switched at Birth (2011)
Finally a show recognizes the deaf community!
Though I am a teenager, rarely do I ever watch ABC Family's or "Freeforms" cheesy, teenage romance, drama. Trying to figure out what was so great about Pretty Little Liars or The Secret Life of an American Teenager, I disregarded the show for quite a while. I didn't really find anything wholesome about either show and found them to both be completely annoying. I couldn't even get past the first episode of Pretty Little Liars. I gave The Secret Life of an American Teenager some time but still couldn't find out what was so great about the show. A friend recommended the show to me. But, she also was the main person who pushed me to watch PLL's and TSLOAT, so, of course, I was a little skeptical. I was even more skeptical when I'd found out that the show was on ABC family. I watched the first episode of Switched At Birth and immediately fell in love. Every episode is of course filled with family drama, but they all overcome it in the end. The show proves that two people from completely different backgrounds and families can come together as one. The show is amazingly and beautifully written. One of the stars of the show is deaf, which definitely adds a different twist to the show and it's not just her there are plenty of deaf people who star on the show. The show has taught me much as a person. I've even taken up learning sign language and can confidently say that I know the full alphabet. I've also fallen in love with art, just like Bay loves her art in the show. The show is completely wholesome and has a wonderful message in each episode. I would definitely recommend this show to teenagers who love a little drama but want something different and wholesome.
