Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
David Lynch is GOLD
I have no words to express how awesome this show is. David Lynch doesn't try to please everyone unlike most shows nowadays which try to hard to be perfect and lack that 'thing'. He does it for the art, expressing whatever comes to his wild imagination in that brilliant mind of his, and it shows in how this 2017 Twin Peaks is creative and flowy and in every way a masterpiece. He evokes so many emotions, speaks so much in so few words and uses actions, movements, sounds and paints a wonderful picture. I would be laughing out loud one moment and then tragically touched by a scene the next, or even horrified. There's so much this man offers us and its such a treat to the eyes and the soul. He is a true artist and a master film director. Twin Peaks will always have a special place in my heart.
That said, the actors all did a fantastic job. It was great to see Naomi Watts in this, and Laura Dern, and there are so many wonderful additions to the cast in this season who all played their roles so well. Even in his old age, Kyle still has me captivated by his acting and of course his good looks. Everything about this show is just wonderful. Thank you David Lynch.
Love Life (2020)
Worth Watching
Yea, it wasn't a fast-paced, exciting, jaw dropping, or gut-wrenchingly heartwarming or heartbreaking or laugh our loud comedic but it was still a good show. Maybe my delight in it was due to the fact that I went into it not expecting some amazingly extraordinary story but to watch some light romance short series (especially because of the title) and I was pleasantly surprised to find more than I ever expected.
I loved how Darby's character evolved from the first episode to the last. She grew. This wasn't a show about how she ended up completed by some guy but rather how she got to love herself, heal from her emotional baggage with her mother which made her feel unlovable, she got to grow career-wise (and yes that might have seemed all too easy but this was a 10episode, 30 minute show, the last thing we needed was some in depth exploration of work stuff, this was 'love life', people should watch longer shows if they want the bigger picture of every little detail and growth of characters).
I feel like some people just didn't get it. There are comments about how the show made it seem like her value was about being a mother which they found demeaning to women or how it was shallow that all she wanted was a man to complete her life. She started out that way, like many of us women at some points in our lives may want to fill some gaps with relationships. But along the way, she filled that hole with the love she always wanted, which was her mother, and she gave herself that love that she deserved as well and focused on her work, her friends, and her growth. It was this growth and self value that she found way before she got back together with Augie, way before she got pregnant, and way before she found her person.
Well, that's to say I'm glad I watched this. It made me reflect a LOT about my own issues and relationships. It has its own flaws, but I don't think it was ever meant to be perfect.
Jackie Brown (1997)
Expectations not met. Not Tarantino's best
I guess the worst thing i did was go into this with Pulp Fiction expectations and maybe if i had seen this before Pulp Fiction i might have liked it better. My problem wasnt that there wasn't enough violence or any such but that there was no tension. Just when i'm about to feel some stiff, the tension disappears and i know before the movie ends that Jackie would be the ultimate winner. I guess it felt more like a good vs bad thing to me which was boring because i was torn between Jackie and Ordell, and Samuel Jackson's character kinda outshined her in my opinion making it harder to constantly root for Jackie despite the fact that Ordell's character was made out to be the bad guy and Jackie the good guy in the story. I wasn't really worried about Jackie, i mean in the good guy vs bad guy movies don't the good guys always win? I guess I prefer much more complex characters without the labels of who's good or who's bad, not knowing what will happen next... and this was kinda predictable to me. But it wasn't that bad, I managed to watch without skipping a part, just wish I hadn't had such high expectations before watching it.
Goodfellas (1990)
"Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have character"
Henry Hill's character was terribly written. It felt like he had no real personality of his own and that ruined it for me because you have to care about the main character, and I couldn't feel a thing for him. He wasn't impressive or interesting enough.
Marriage Story (2019)
Maybe im the only one who sided with Nicole
The bulk of reviews I have read claim that Nicole was the selfish one and from someone who knows what its like to feel unseen and unheard and want to actually matter and have your own voice, suffocating under someone else's, I understood Nicole's wanting a transition in her life. Most people bash Nicole for bringing in a lawyer into this case but if she didn't do that then she and Charlie would have had to have a 'discussion' which would ultimately be about him getting exactly what he wanted as usual and not hearing, not listening even just once to what Nicole wanted or why she wanted it. I was frustrated that till the end, Charlie, didn't even understand why their relationship went astray and even when she spelled out to him how she felt, he still didn't get it and was in my opinion the selfish one. He was used to getting what he wanted, and Nicole was used to giving in to those. Even when the child told him his own preferences, he didn't listen.
I didn't think Nicole was a saint, nor did I think that Charlie was a villain. They both had their faults and I was able to interchangeably sympathize with both at times though I was more on Nicole's side throughout.
Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (2011)
The best lovestory
The two leads have an outstanding chemistry that can make one forget that they are just acting.it was a wonderful lovestory which i will never forget and will always love
Yeh Hai Mohabbatein (2013)
Used to be a good show
