The Time Capsule (2022)
Truly a gem
Why on God's green earth would I give this film a rating of 10? You're about to find out.
I've written and published 5 fiction novels, written 13 screenplays, three TV series and one documentary.
Stanislavski writes, "There are no small roles, only small actors." We all find gems in film every few years, this one's mine, third time watching it. Every actor in this film credibly nails their performance in every scene: the husband stuck amid three worlds of his life, the wife determined to succeed, the best friend who gets everyone to feel comfortable around him, the dad who gets everyone to feel uncomfortable around him; finally, the girl, a victim of time travel, really, and circumstance; her heartfelt and silent anguish is so very well played. Every actor in this ensemble piece subtly yet powerfully excels in every scene, even the political manager nails his brief scenes.
Should my books ever make it to film and I have a say, there would be leading roles for all these fine actors.
Birdies (2022)
Every actor does his or her own thing. It's awesome.
I enjoyed this film primarily for 2 reasons: Nate Panning's acting is genius, he's always expressing something either vocally of facially, his expressions are hilarious and his character doesn't try to be or do more than the minimum. I wish I knew how to coast at my job, I don't.
2nd reason is the main actor looks like Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers rule. All kidding aside, Ryan O'Flanagan and the bartender seem the only ones who are down to earth and sense impending doom for the golf course.
I look for something fresh, unusual, pleasantly funny. The writers and entire cast did awesome and I hope they continue in their careers as actors.
Water for Elephants (2011)
Quite the period piece
Christoph Waltz should've been nominated for best supporting actor; this film took a lot to put together because it shines of hard work, subtlety, power, and talent. I wish the elephant were in the credits.
