Good Witch (2015)
What happened to this show?!
This show was really fun and enjoyable for years as we watched the characters of a small Midwestern town intersect, bond, and grow. Now? It's almost unrecognizable in an uncomfortable away. So for me, it's "Goodbye, Good Witch. I'll try to take with me the good memories of what you were rather than what you became." :-/
Tucker Carlson Originals: Patriot Purge: Part 3 (2021)
Respectable journalists left Fox over this *TRASH*
Fox News Network, as we all know, is directed toward a conservative audience. That's fine... as long as it stays within the realm of reality with its programming on current events, with respectable, intelligent journalists to share their thoughts and research. But this, by none other than Tucker Carlson - who has learned that the bigger his tall tale, the bigger the payoff for him - is complete, made-up nonsense and Tucker is laughing all the way to the bank knowing if he says it, you'll believe it.
There was NO investigative work behind the scenes to back it up. He made it all all up and now laughs as he cashes his check. Shame on Suzanne Scott for allowing this to air. Shame on her for also watching exceptionally smart and insightful conservative journalists at Fox - those being Jonah Goldberg and Steve Hayes - to walk out the door forever SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF THIS FICTIONAL NONSENSE THAT CARLSON GOT THROUGH. This is pure, made-up fiction to enrich the Frozen TV Dinner Guy's bank account as he laughs, cashing the checks. C'mon, America. THINK!!!
Tucker Carlson Originals: Patriot Purge: Part 1 (2021)
Fact-less Nonsense
If you like hyperbole and false rhetoric, all loosely strung together to entertain a gullible audience, with key facts intentionally omitted and/or distorted, then this is your kind of TV programming. There are NO verifiable facts presented by Carlson. Then there's this: He utterly fails to present an accurate, legal definition of "entrapment" - a key point that his entire premise is based on - to make an intelligent argument that might support his assertion. Not only have multiple fact checkers completely destroyed all of his claims on this essential argument, Fox New Network's own Brett Baier did a piece on the likelihood that the FBI was behind the January 6th Capital riot and he established it to be *baseless* and without merit. (Perhaps that is why Fox made the decision NOT to run this Tucker's "special" on their regular network? Hmm...) With creations as distorted as this being peddled, Mr. Carlson continues to reveal that he is willing to say anything for higher ratings and his own profit rather than present anything honest and intellectually interesting that would be of value to the national discourse concerning the worst attack on our nation's Capital since 1812, with the January 6th rioters' violent intent to stop a Constitutional process necessary for the peaceful transfer of power; something recognized as key to a democracy by our Founding Fathers. What an embarrassing legacy Tucker Carlson will be remembered for by his children and historians.
The Gathering (1977)
A Unique Christmas Movie
There's something very special about this movie due to its themes of family, forgiveness, and facing one's mortality over the Christmas holiday. While the story carries these heavy and depressing themes, it is visually beautiful, filled with the sights and activities of a traditional Midwest Christmas, and its moving score by John Barry sets the perfect mood. The story begins shortly before Christmas when the stubborn and often abrasive Adam Thornton, played with perfection by Ed Asner, unexpectedly learns from his long-time doctor and friend that he has mere months to live. While Adam is a successful, self-made business man, he is estranged from his wife and four adult children. But with the eventual help of wife Kate, played by the wonderful Maureen Stapleton, a special family Christmas gathering is planned by her so Adam can hopefully repair the damaged relationships with his children. But can he do so without telling them his bad news? He is determined to do so, in hopes that reconciliation with each of them is genuine rather than done out of pity. Each of his children have resentments or issues that will get in the way. The entire cast is excellent in this unique Christmas movie and are compelling in their roles.
The Thornton family's Christmas, despite all of its dysfunction and drama, is not something I want to miss as I make my own preparations for the holiday so I find myself watching it every December. It's that special of a Christmas movie.
